I am sad to say that it is still in business. I read about these two rapists and murderers who were there in the 70s. I read about a Philip Zagarella and an Eric Napoletano who were at Green Chimneys. That environment is the kind of breeding grounds for people like Philip Zagarella and Eric Napoletano.
Green Chimneys is an RTC in Brewster NY where many have been abused. Monks' daughter Barbara went there in the 1960s, but I didn' tknow her. She was long before me. Kids were being abused big time there and when I was there sometimes kids were sent to Emergency after they'd been beaten. Dislocated shoulders and things like that. I was once beaten by two staff members. Every day I was beaten and so were many others. Damn shame the Monkman would honor a disgraceful place like Green Chimneys

@UmbrellaGirl64: I'm sorry to learn that you and others were abused there. When Thelonious and Nellie sent their daughter there in the '60s it was a prestigious prep school. I believe their daughter, Barbara, had pleasant memories of the place, which arguably was a very different place from the time when you were there.
Forget all that and just picture rows of copper-green chimneys on rooftops in Paris. From a higher window.

Written for his young daughter, Barbara (Boo Boo), in celebration of the boarding school she attended: Green Chimneys, (in New Hampshire, I think).

@aarfeld thank you for this lovely piece of Monk trivia. I always wondered about the strange title.....

@aarfeld
You don't ATTEND Green Chimneys. You just try to survive due to the high level of abuse.
