  • Great info, thanks.

  • These guys are really popular in Hong Kong... I lived there 4 years and the same exact ones bothered me every day. I also sometimes saw them smoking, drinking beer, and using their mobile phones. Later at night you can find them spending tourist's money at the bar. (they're usually dressed different).

I hate them... they are the most disgusting people in HK

  • Those fake monks were disgracing buddhism. They dressed up as Chinese Mahayama not Theravada style. They always appear at corded and attractive areas to confuse tourists who dont understand Buddhist rituals. Those fake monks are always cheating in China sailing fake amulet and other relating things.Real buddhist monks only accept food at morning, donation is acceptable in temple. But fake monks only wants your cash, you can tell from they cunning faces! Shame on them~

  • they are not 'necessarily' fake. Buddishm also has many branches with very different customs. In China, it is ok for monks to touch money, and they always wear the shoes like that. However, in any place, monks are not supposed to eat meat, and cannot drink alcohol etc.

  • Generally all novice Buddhist monks---Theravada or Mahayana regardless of nationality--- have a rule when they first ordain. According to the tenth precept, monks should strive to abstain from taking money or hoarding any jewels or gems, just so that one's pursuit for enlightenment is not overshadowed by material gain. I feel sorry for the real Chinese Mahayana monks in Thailand because I feel that they will be heavily discriminated against because these fakes are going out there soliciting cash

  • Real theravada monk don't touch money. They dont eat any food after noon time.

  • Fake monks are sensitive to cameras and walk faster.

  • @Mi37591 lol i noticed that

  • fake monk it mean chinese monk on1.13 is real monk

fake monk always they stays in touris area them wearing liked shaolin style of monk not wearing like thai monk.

If u wanna see by ur self there r always in Sukumwit area

Look at 4.11 that is real fake monk all of them can speak chinese and they have to paid to police about over five hundred bath a day

and when these monk pass your table make sure the thing is ok cause some of them are robber too.

  • real monk will not ask for money. not even supposed to touch money

  • It's so simple! Monks never leave the monastary except for in the veeeery early morning to get alms from people (food). They never go out "for a walk" like that. They also don't leave their monastary after dark unless there's a special reaason for that.

And yes, they dont wear pants and sneakers.

I should know, I've been a monk in thailand.

  • @aromchuen if you were a monk in thailand please tell me why it is so easy for someone to go to thailand and take vows to be a monk but in the united states even temples that are monks from thailand will not allow someone to come to their temple to become a mnonk. its like they have their own little paradisee and not going to let anyone in. and i have been to thai temples in the US and seen them with computers and tvs, shopping in Sams club. having young women alone in the temple with monks

  • @SunimZen Monks in Thailand also have laptops and use latest technology. Many of them educate themselves part time. And I have seen the same as you with monks outside of Thailand. Those are simply not pure monks. Many of them get spoiled and bend the rules, thinking they get away with it since they don't have as much population of people judging their every move.

And I think they don't let anybody becoming a monk is because it's free for you, but not free for the institution to house you as one

  • @aromchuen no, itss not free to the institution but thai temples in the US are funded and taken care of by the local lay community that sponsors the monks who they bring to their community and it is my belief that the local community may consist of a lot of relatives and maybe friends from thailand. in the times i used to spend in these temples it was very obvious to me that these monks vere extremely familiar with the people who fed them daily and helped with the temple

  • @aromchuen as i said, those same monks had made arrangements for me to go to thailand and practice as a forest monk but that just didnt make sense to me with temples all over the united states. I know i could go to japan and be ordained also without cost to me but no where in the states is this option available even though every temple and buddhist center in the states is more than adequately funded by the local community. in the states, buddhism, like christianity is nothing but an income.

  • @SunimZen Yeah, it's a shame. Money has gotten in the way of the purity of bhuddism. You can even see it sometimes in Thailand. But if you really do want to become a monk, I would recommend you to go to Thailand and become one. It doesnt have to be a forest monk or what ever... just a temple in bangkok. I can assure that, you will be more welcome :)

The experience will be so much more authentic and worth the added cost of travelling!

  • @aromchuen cause of u stuck of Bangkok monk!!!

  • @SSakarn I wasnt in bangkok, I wasnt a stuck up one... I'm Thai :P

  • Well, who cares about religion anyway. All it did was to cause wars and hatred. Not so much the Buddhism, but, what the hell. Better without any of them.

  • just look at his pants and sneakers

monks dont wear pants or sneakers uinder their robes. He might be some kind of chinese taoist or something but the way this guy walks around the sukhumvit soi 3 to 7 begging from 8 pm to 3 am reveals that he is a con man and 'jai baap' (sinful heart) - hes on his way somewhere thats not very nice.

  • Chinese monks > Thai monks :D

  • I can't say if they are fake or not fake. Their robes aren't the same Thai monk's which doesn't mean much. They could be Mahayana monks. On the sidenote: Pretending to be a Monk and going on alms round is bad karma.

  • @Yosh997 However.... taking money. Seems fishy.

  • @Yosh997

    Yeah, but it's good eating!

  • NEVER give money to a monk on alms round. Just food. Monks are not even allowed to touch money. If you want to donate money, go to a temple and put it in the donation box.

  • @buddhasknowbest yess but a lot of these young monks on alms rounds have money dropped in their bowls by family members and friends when they are on alms rounds and use the money to fund their cell phones and computers and even snacks. and save for trips...to temples in the US where they can live luxurious monks existence,

  • We have a lot of fake monks in HOng Kong street and they come from the mainland. Actually I know in Chinese the regulations now prohibit the monks from asking for money in the street. And these are fakes.

  • I see really fake monk in bangkok

    him ask money

all clothes white and tall about 1.80

  • Thank you Andy! Early morning is the time for collections reffered to as "Bintoebat" I will be more careful because of your video.

  • Here are the 3 things to look for in a Thai Monk, hope it helps:

    1. Early Morning. Monks cannot eat after 12-noon. They are usually collecting alms first thing in the morning and try to get back to their temple early as well. You generally won't see real Thai monks collecting alms after 10:30am.

    2. Barefoot. Thai Monks should not be wearing anything on their feet when they are collecting alms.

    3. No Eyebrows. Real Thai monks shave their eyebrows off.

  • Andy, while there is a possibility that that monk from the Mahayana sect is a fake monk, it is shallow to claim that those wearing a full robe are fake monks. One follows Thai Buddhism(Theravada Sect) while the other is of the Mahayana Sect.

By the way, there are a couple of Mahayana Buddhist temples in Bangkok if you don't know it. Many are Yunannese Buddhist Monks

  • Why there are some Chinese go to Thailand?! for what??? shameful!

  • Hobo, the monks w/ sleeves, as you put it, are of the Mahayana school, all the others are Theravada. The girl's comments "can't trust monks in Bkk", really concerns me. There are many good monks, just have to look for them. Also, monks don't have to stay in the temple but should have good reason for visiting certain areas, and NEVER ask for money. I go out for a walk everyday. Unfortunately, I have to pass through that area around Khao San rd. Anyway, you can tell a good monk by his behavior.

  • Why would chinese go to thailand?? so many trans gender. underage proststion. and cant even decided a right president. Enjoy your demonstration. lol.

  • thats so stupid to say why chinese go to thailand? because they have tans gender and prostitution? what does that have to do with anything. man i bet you look as stupid as u just sound. there a lot chinese in thailand retard. and this whole politic problem is because of the chinese. the priminiter ancestor even chinese asshole.

  • trans gender, under age prostitution, and worst politicial system in Asia. Show how fail your country is. If you contury so great, what do you spend time making fun of other country?? Do we making video, on stupid tailanders in China? NO. we know there is stupid people from any country, we just don't spend time to promote hate. Thats just fact.

  • your name says it all fat lazy pig enough said...u think your pathetic china country any better? they ban the aniversary for the masacre just to pretend it never happen. they ban any religion they dont like. they wont allow tibet to have an army. thier always fight going on in thier goverment. taiwan hate u hong kong does to also macua. and since when thai make fun of other country. stop making shit up that u cant back up retard. stupid chink

  • thai monks should fight the chinese monks. it could be a pay per view event! proceeds goes to the temple of the victor!

  • Fake? Scamming People? Chinese?

    Of course!.....what else is new.

The Thai police should start arresting them and deport them back to China! lol

  • It is a shame, that persons dress as monks in order to benefit to it. Yuttadhammo explains how a real monk is, your hear in his words, that he is a monk!

  • i am wondering what your problem is

  • You seem really upset... perhaps you could use some meditation? Then you might think again about the lazy comment. Really, just because people give you stuff doesn't make you lazy... we eat once a day, abstain from all sexuality, and refrain from entertainment, luxury and all forms of money. I really think you are uninformed in your comments... may you be happy :)

  • i am also collecting money here in germany for homeless and disabled children. does it mean i am fake, too?

also you nammer77 shouldnt speak like this.

    namo sakyamuni buddha

    thich thong trang

  • we cant be shure if he is a fake monk. he wears chinese monk robe and that he is collecting money is not a sign that he is a fake monk.

i am wearing the same robe and i am not a fake monk. this robe is chinese and vietnamese tradition. and the chinese monk cant go on almround in thailand because chinese monks are vegetarian but thai monks eat meat and thai people offer meat to monks. we dont know if he is collecting money for his temple only,or does anybody know did anybody ask him?

  • yes, robes don't make the monk... many of the fake monks look just like the "real" monks in the video. The point is, real monks take only gifts out of faith, they never beg, they never ask without prompting, and they don't collect, they only give up :)

  • @thichthongtrang Thay, I think it depends on how these people act externally. Surely one must recall that the Buddha laid down the law for his disciples and for those who have truly have the slightest pinch of compassion within will not go as far as pretending to be a fake monk.

  • Yes, bums. They call us "dharma bums". We give up luxury and wealth and take on strict moral virtue. People respect us for this, and so they give us food. I haven't laid down to sleep in the past five days... I don't think I'm lazy. If you want to know our work, check out my channel, as an example. 60 000+ views can't be wrong...

  • I live in Asia, MONKS will NEVER ask for money, thats it! I have also seen the fake ones in grey robes,,, No real monk will ever ask for anything..

  • This is Andy, maker of this Video, I use Thailand as my airport base for travel. I have traveled perpetually for over 10 years and 77 countries. How many times in Thailand. I have flown in and out of Thailand maybe 30 times in the last five years as I stage trips to other parts of the planet.

  • @HoboTraveler nice show off. who the fuck care?

  • i'll be there in 3 weeks! i recognize all of the shops in, and around thanon khao sarn!

how long have you been in thailand?

  • It's weird seing Monks in the market. From where I'm from they comes through a neighborhood for offering not to the market. Anyway that's bangkok so it's different than in Ubon, not having to experience this by looking at the rope doesn't tell me anything because Chinese monk doesn't where the exact same rope as the Thai monk and chinese monk does wear shoes traditionally. I don't know how the real chinese monk conduct them self.

It's interesting video though, Thank you

  • This is the best info you have published in along time. MORE OF THIS Andy!
