How do you feel about the serious paint issues on this model? (Ex: Grey wheels, axle boxes, and hooks, red on the bottom of the smoke box instead of black, and black on the back of the tender instead of red)
It is normal for any new model train locomotive to perform better after it has been "broken in". I believe the instructions with Bachmann locos suggest about an hour at less than full throttle, alternating forward and reverse for the break-in period. Some locos don't seem to take this long to be "broken in". 1-2 "Thomas" wagons at modest speed shouldn't damage a loco after it has been running OK for 10-15 minutes. Kids (of ALL ages) get impatient when a new loco arrives on the Island of Sodor!!
not really, they tend to fail quite easly, you'd notice your locos run alot smoother after they are run in, I run mine for about 10 minutes each direction, depending on the size of the loco really, I increase the running time. works well enough for me

if you get a bachman model, is it true that you have to run it for an hour before making it pull trucks or coaches?
