  • My dad used to take me to the farmer's market every Saturday when I was a kid, this brought back some great memories. Thanks!

  • YEAH GO FLINT WOOOHOOOO! XDXDXD

  • Have you eaten at Steady Eddy's Cafe?

  • Ya'll have to understand that February in Flint is about 25-35 degrees. You won't find any fresh local goods during a hard freeze season, it's not like California or southern states. And why are we so rude? IT'S 25-35 DEGREES! It's hard to look peppy when you can't feel your face. Or toes. =)

In the warm months, the Flint farmer's market has a wide range of fresh produce (the cherries are phenomenal). I love walking over from U of M and buying my lunch there. Yummy and cheap!

  • Great Vid DEMCAD...in spite of the obvious negitive vibes giving to Flint haters in the comment area....Thank for the Vid though!

  • @BedRockBrutha or should I have said "giving BY flint haters"

  • love your vids bro!

  • FLINT FARMERS MARKET RULES, THE SMELL, THE COOKIES!

  • Craig at the CC's rock shop is my goto guy for rocks.. I collect em, and have been collecting them since i was 5. now im almost 15 and have almost everything Craig does!1 its fun to collect and hesa nice guy . good prices tooo.

  • Markets are sweet, especially the huge one's in cities. Best one I have ever been to is Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne. Lots of yelling and haggling and ppl. Fun stuff to do on a boring Sunday.

  • Those people seem a little rude. Come to the south man.

  • Support your local farmers market ! these are your neighbors, most of the time the products are produced locally and/or are organic. buying from locals offers many benefits. 1) keeps local farms in business, something you want when peak oil / shortages happen. 2) Food and products produced locally boost local economy and items do not have to be shipped cross country ( usually ). 3) healthier and better tasting, most farmers grow varieties for taste and quality not so much for how productive -

  • - productive plants are, since fruits do not have to travel far, they are usually fresher. not irradiated , of course in winter, some stuff obviously will be brought from elsewhere. 4) buying organic means less money in the hands of Monopolizing and enslaving corporations like Monsanto, with their genetically modified franken foods, that sue farmers if their pollen just happens to contaminate their open pollinated seeds. Local farms is the future of our survival !!!

  • Hey Demcad, i don't know if you have mentioned this before, but i was curious if you were able to find work in flint???

  • No. Right now. Youtube and radio are my main projects.

  • Anyone else get static from Demcad's audio?

  • I don't know if anyone noticed this but you had a caption in your video that mentioned "bag out bug". LOL I know you meant bug out bag.

  • Yes!! Farmer's Markets FTW!

  • gotta love those oranges

  • I liked the vid, Reg. Farmers market, flea market, whatever people want to call it. What popped in my mind was "local economy" when I saw this due to the diverse things being sold. If things keep going the way they are, this is the future USA - people making and selling their food/goods.

Actually, it might not be so bad. Friendly people, good food, and actually taking time to talk to one another. Just a thought...

  • Nice going shopping with you Demcad!

  • i think my may have made things awkward for people. good job, now you're like me.

  • Do you shave your balls, Reginald?

  • I make my weekly trip to the DeKalb World Farmer's Market once a week and I enjoy it so much. My aunt lives in Flint, I'll send her your video, because I wonder if she has ever been. Take care!

  • Fun to watch . . thanks!

  • Isn't farmers market suppose to be local foods grown local?

I can understand if some of the crafts supplies are not local cause the finished product is made local.

  • Reggie,

Now this is more like it! Good to see you back to what I subscribe to!

    Thanks,

    Richard of Danbury

  • HAPPY CAMPING REGGIE DEM

  • Cool. It nice to see that Farmer's Markets still thriving.

  • Just lovely! It must be beautiful to live there. My kindest greetings to all the common people in the US! We love you!

  • Like Pike Market--- but cleaner

  • Yum! Donuts!

  • You passed up the free samples at 1:01. :)

  • DemCad do a story of what goes on the the Dort Hwy. lol

  • I am eying those jars of honey at the Butcher's. Flea and Farmer's markets are a blast. But I gotta go a few hours down South to reach a place where that's common.

  • demcad' you are one of a kind i admire what you do dont stop ......plus the info you share is helpfull rock on ..........

  • in the current economy most places, for me, even window shopping is too demanding. if i had the prerogatives required, and the stamina, etc., tho, i would offer such interesting uploads. times are tough, and therefore even more glad for your sortie to market, etc., and that you were not literally wrestled to the ground (or some such) and thrown out because of the cam, etc.!!

  • I love to go to the farmers' markets in my area. Contrary to what some folks might think, you generally buy fresh only winter crops in the winter ;) There's plenty of fresh meat and dairy products sold by the farmers year round. And you can buy fruit and vegetables that they've canned in the fall. Reginald is a lot further north than me though. I love buying products from local people who specialize in those very things. And I am about as big a free trade advocate as I know.

  • It doesn't seem very local, when it's from Italia, Mexico, et cetera.

  • It's amazing how few people listened to the lady who spoke about the food. She clearly stated that the local farmers come in the summer.

  • That makes sense, because of the weather. I thought you made the statement about farmer markets at some point. My understanding of farmer markets is local food. I made that assumption. So, the farmers are not from Flint?

  • Reg take a look at the videos I sent you and also look at the you tube videos for Poly Face Farm, real insight into CSA and what might be the nucleus of post SHTF. Sustainable non-exotic farming will be key.

    Regards

    jl

  • Reg, your a great person.

  • I love the farmer's markets out here in the Boulder, CO area. I'm ready to join a community supported agriculture (CSA) group in the spring to supplement my small garden plots.

Reg, you might look into the CSA in your area. Some of them will let you earn your fruits and vegetables through the growing season by volunteering a couple of hours a week.

  • Do you know, or know of, Chris Yates? I only ask to satisfy my curiosity.

  • Nope. I don't know him.

  • that farmers market looks more like a flea mall

  • Farmer's Market's, You can find anything that is legal or can be crammed in the allotted space.

  • so few things made in the USA

  • Sorry not my idea of a farmers market. Completely off the mark regarding acquiring locally grown sustainable food and materials. Absolute discontinuity with the general trend of this channel.

Iam left wondering in a SHTF scenario who might survive in the cities with an estimated 3 day food supply.

  • So you didn't hear the lady when she said that they deal with local farmers in the summer?

  • Wait a minute- you're in Michigan. Aren't farmer's markets supposed to be selling LOCAL produce? Looks more like an upscale store than a farmer's market.

  • Did they have any food items that were organic?

  • Almonds ;^)

Also, kudo's for testing out your gear some more.

  • we only have a farmers market here in the summer

  • I was LOL when you said "that's the way to go" when you saw the doughnuts.

  • @jimbobubbadj that was a Yeah, Baby!! moment for him . lol

  • looks like a flea market

  • I am from Niles.

What a great idea to film this.

    Buy local, it matters. One-

  • 5 *****

  • Reg in Flint look like Matthew Henson.

  • I bet food costs a lot less in Flint than it did in Alaska.

  • Yes, they are.

  • That's awesome that you are getting out practicing with your Bug Out Bag! I need to get practicing!

  • What a disappointment for all the bigots who assumed Flint was the "Ghetto" because Reggie lives there. Some ghetto huh? lol. The sooner you bozos get off the computer and spend some time in the real world the better off you'll be. Just imagine how many other things you're wrong about. SMH

  • You sound like a stupidass race baiter to me. For your info it is largely a ghetto with white and black elements.Sounds like you are the one that needs to get off the computer.Your the one that brought up the ghetto shit. The rest of us are just enjoying the vid.

  • Race baiter? How come I've never seen you address the blatant bigotry expressed on this channel? You're a hypocrite and a sensitive one at that. lol I see my sling shot found its mark as I was sure it would.. There's enough bigots on here to take offense and look at contestant #1. The moronic stumblebum not smart enough to conceal his own racial hang ups so he accuses me to cope. lol.

  • Sorry....i thought you were a white liberal.Yes...theres bigots on here but most of reggies subscribers are white guys and they arent bigots...you know that. And ghetto as you know doesnt neccesarily refer to a black area but its a area that is poor and crime ridden. Flints east and west side are largely white and you could call them ghettos. The north end is black and you could call it a ghetto...Flints just one big ghetto except for the southend.

  • I don't know who's who on here but I know I regularly see disparaging statements about blacks and no one addresses it but ME. So I assume the channel is filled with bigots and and bigot sympathizers so I hang out here to give them a hard time and EDUCATE them because so much of what they believe is the minority and serves only to make them feel good about themselves. I routinely hand them their asses to quash any notion of supremacy they may subscribe to. Cheers.

  • Yes there are disparging statements about blacks here...professional idiots....go after them....but most white people arent like that. I have personaly called down those people when i see that. But this is y tube and there are a certain number here that just want attention and thats how they get it....forgive me for thinking you were a white liberal....lol

  • I have no problem with white people per se. My issue is with IGNORANCE in any shape, hue or form. I despise black ignorance just the same. As a black man who knows more black people than any of these bigots I can attest to the diversity in our community yet all they hold on to is negativity because they mean us no good. I have 2 kids out of wedlock BUT I supported both. Raised one who is in college on an academic scholarship and the other is on the way. Not traditional but far from a failure.

  • Dude. Take it from some one who has lived in Flint for a year (03-04), Flint is a ghetto. The city has really nice areas as well, but by and large it is a ghetto.

  • Dude. I think the word ghetto is often misused and glamorized so all types of bigots on one hand and ignorant black folks assume anywhere there's a black community there's a ghetto. We have to move away from that sort of thinking and not other people use skewered stats to project THEIR impression of US upon us lest we risk PERCEPTION becoming reality as it does in some cases....

  • You made me hungry for REAL FOOD!

  • o.k. now I'm hungry

  • This looks more like a flea market and not a farmer's market, but I enjoy your videos just the same.

  • no GMO's at the farmers market

  • I liked the vid DEMCAD, but it kinda looked touristy/pricey for a farmers market, or maybe I'm not used to them in mid winter.

Still looks like they had the essentials, but like the lady said... a bit more expensive.

One good thing I must comment on is you testing out the weight of your "bagout bug" LOL (you mixed up the letters on the insert)

Good idea to get used to it and feel comfortable with it on.

  • bagout bug..lol

  • Plan a 7 day "living off the land" next summer. Bring your bag and nothing else.

  • I'd like to see that actually.

  • 40 days and 40 nights

  • That is an excellent idea for a vid.

    Reg get on it ASAP.

Maybe we should donate some money to Reg.

  • If we can scrape up $2000 maybe Reg will go for it. Let's see if Reg agrees. He can bring a video guy too. (and bug spray)

  • I'll donate what ever it takes to see a vid like that. If Demcad agrees than lets set up a fund for him!!!!

  • they don't sell

    big cans of chili

    at farmers markets...

    darn hippies

  • Find out where local Farms are too. I am on an alkaline raw/living food diet.

  • Comment removed

  • Reggie you should try to hitchhike as a trial run. Love to see the kind of stuff you would get on camera from that!

  • Subversive Activities Registration Act - South Carolina

  • Interesting, thanks DEMCAD. Farmer's Markets are a good way to buy locally (sometimes... ask if you're not sure).

2:37 - cheesy American country music!

  • farmers markets are just awesome. the shopping experience is always fun, the products are usually good, and you get to meet some interesting people.

  • Great video!

  • Sooo, A guy that looks like Smokey the Bear walkin' around a market with a camera,...CALL HOMELAND DEFENCE! (LOL)!! -cool video!!

  • Like anyone in MI grows oranges? Looks more like a flea market type place than a genuine farmers market.

In my area we have some markets where the PA Amish come and sell stuff.

  • Did you not listen to the lady talk. Watch the video again.

  • I stopped the video just before she said where the produce came from, the terminal. I'm just saying... I like buying stuff from the Amish because I know it's grown locally and my money is going to local producers. When you buy from her, the money leaves the local economy. Of course, during the winter you have to do it if you want stuff like that.

  • There's an Amish farmers market in South Jersey. Nice place & good stuff there.

  • Are you talking about the one way down on 42? They have one at Columbus and you can sometimes get stuff at Berlin (I like the flea market there). Reading Terminal Market is good too. My dad goes to Lancaster and gets stuff there. I heard the Italian market is good, but I've never been there.

  • Yes, the one on 42 in Williamstown. It's the Stoltzfus Amish Farm Market. It's probably very similar to what you can get in Lancaster as the Stoltzfus family is from Lancaster County. The market is also attached to small mall that has maybe 30 or so vendors. Lots of interesting items there in the mall as well.

  • get some proscuitto, fresh motzerella , fresh basil and drizzle some olive oil on top...enjoy with a red wine...

  • There seems to be two types of Farmers Markets. These ones on your video which are basically diverse grocery stores that call themselves Farmers Markets, and the REAL ones which are basically outdoors under tents with tables and pickup trucks full of produce. Try finding one of those, but probably harder during the winter. The locations can change too.

  • It's winter. The local farmers don't show up until spring and summer.

  • Now thats a store!

Going through there makes my mouth water! Great stuff, home grown!

    Walnuts....Mmmm....brain food!

  • now i'm hungry!

  • Although that stuff is GMO and brought in....I say it's still great to be supporting local businesses. I wish I had something similar in my area.

  • The summer season has a local farmers.

  • Oh I get cha. I totally understand. A complete switch-over to all local and organic is going to take time...and for a complete breakdown of the current structure (what everyone is used to). I think we'll get there eventually.

  • LOL You walked into a store dressed like that? Why?

  • Why not?

  • I see there are still alot of white people left in Flint.

  • Coo Coo, Coo Coo

  • ...thanks for taking the time to do what you do.

  • My Dad grew up in Flint in the 20,s n 30,s

  • Nice Reg, supporting local folks

and good fresh food. The FMs here

(in my area of Germany) are excellent.

Usually cost a bit more then SMs,

but the quality is well worth it.

Also seem to be run by the Turks,

but what the hay? Each day in the city!

  • Prosciutto ham is exactly 100% the same thing as old school country Ham... not the new mass produced country ham the old stuff that tales a few months to make/cure

  • i am amazed at the sight of DEMCAD with the backpack in public....bet he got some strange looks ...looks like a homeless man..great video

  • LOL..pretty much.

  • Nice video Reg, makes me want to shop at a Farmer's Market.

  • Glad to see you getting out and about Demcad.

  • i love this video...no corporations ...down home ....american needs to get back to farmers market

  • OMG, it's been a while since I've watched but I can't believe you're a partner! I was hoping you'd become one. Awesome!

  • Welcome back.

  • awsome im lovin these videos of you going out and testing equipment and doing new things 5 stars

  • The True Backpacker

  • Saturday nerds...I guess I'm one also if I'm on here too. :)

  • judutchinski

    LOL.

Welcome! It's important to understand who you are.

  • @judgutchinski

Reginald has a large amount of groupies. Don't feel bad. Just feel bad for hanging on Georges nuts all the time, that guy is a scammer. hahaha

  • I like when U go outside and film people in the street. Like when u talked to that lady in supermarket in alaska.

Why dont u get brief questions aswered in public then edit iinto your radio show.

  • Love farmer's markets.

  • farmers markets are the best!

  • Reg is definitely not Italian! -lol

  • How heavy is your bug out camping gear? How far did u walk?

  • I usually walk about 3.5 miles.

  • Regi- you the man!!! I had fun watching this and imagining wearing my backpack around town. pretty sure I'll be havin my bugout bag in church tomorrow!! hee!

  • Demcad, thanks for the video but I would've scouted out the food storage items such as jerky, home canned fruits and veggies, and anything else which could be stored.

  • Looks fun. I like to go to the local flea market and scout up some old LP's once and a while. You can get some good stuff there if you weed through all the junk.

We don't have a farmers mkt in this area that I know of but I'll check.

    Thanks DEMCAD.

  • looks more like a flea market than a farmers market..lol

  • "Now were talking" at the donut counter, LOL they do look delicious.

  • Not really a "FARMERS" market.

Same GMO stuff from Mexico is what it looks like to me.

    High priced retail space too.

    Sorry Reg, I expected more.

Still 5 stars for the effort.

  • In the summer, they get the food from the Michigan farms.

You expected more? Well, why don't you make a video and show me how it's done.

Come on farmjohnny. You currently have 0 videos.

  • The criticism was aimed at the market , not your efforts, hence the 5 stars. We need local greenhouses like Growing Power in Milwaukee instead of a guy selling shiny rocks from Mexico. The foods we eat should be seasonal, not flown / trucked in from hundreds of miles away. Michigan has some of the most innovative leaders in the sustainability movement . Tap into that.

Find the next 100 Will Allens.

I'll leave the film stuff to you few brave souls.

    Been there done that. Next.

  • Yeah Reginald. That food isn't organic and its GMO. Total garbage food. You might as well have gone to Albertsons, no difference.

  • 4:16 testing the bagout bug :) i love farmers markets... and they are growing in size really quickly where i am.

  • they must think you are crazy especially with that back pack. great vid support the local community

  • I know I but you man, but you are kinda like Noah, you can see what is coming. I respect that and you are a kind person. Keep up the good work and I will see you after the economy after implodes.
