  • very, very best compliments!!!

  • thanks!

  • I love this tone!! Tell me more about the Les Paul!!! An Historic? What pups?

  • Thanks! The Les Paul is a 1993 Standard, Pearly Gates in the bridge and a Duncan Antiquities in the neck, RS pots and tone caps. I've played a million Les Pauls, this one is my soulmate.

  • If you don't mind me asking, how much does a LP like that go for. I have always played Teles and would like to get a LP.

  • New ones are around 2300 bucks. I found mine for less than 1000. Got lucky as hell. I've played a bazillion Les Pauls, this one fits me just perfect. Before you buy one, play a WHOLE bunch of them, they are all different. Buy a good used one, you won't be sorry.

  • good tone..

  • nice bro, ass kickin!

  • Thanks!

  • Any way you could do a lesson on that with a bit of slow mo. Plus, on this vid, the motion doesn't match with the sound. You've got it dead on and it sounds great. The only tabs available aren't correct. Please help. I've loved this song since the 70's and you've got it nailed. Please do a lession or at least reshoot it with a better view of the fretboard. Thanks

  • great tone, sick means flu, pukin, etc right, it aint sick, its cool an sounds good, i dont go for that stupid lingo, great marshall.

  • what kinda plexi is it?

    original or reissue?

  • 2001 reissue

  • did it sound like the rolling stones

  • Damn fella, that's mean. Tone to the bone

  • Thanks!

  • I have that amp;D Love this tone with the les paul. I've only played mine with a couple of SG's and a 335! Now I'm gunna find a les paul to play on it+=)

  • I am jealous of you! My next guitar is going to be an SG, I've grown to love thier tone.

  • haha well I want your guitar lol!

  • sick tone dude. Would love to hear you jam on an SG as well. I have an LP Historic 56 and an SG Historic. They rock!

  • what are those amp settings?

  • Presence-10 Bass-3 Treble-10 Middle-6 Vol II- 6.

  • Nice tone...I like drive on the clean side as well:) Did I read correctly...the amp your using is a 1959 Marshall SLP?

  • Yeah, it's a 2000 model. I ripped out all the circuits and replaced it all with handwired goodness.

  • Very Good Amigo i loved it 10 outa 10!

  • I thought it was maybe 11!

  • woua very good sound!!give me more viseo with this les paul!!!!!!!!fantastic

  • there were some notes missing, but obviously your very good.

damn... I wish I could play that good...

  • very good! what is the model of your les paul please??

  • It's a '93 Standard Heritage Cherryburst,

  • need more gain in my opinion. just need to crank it more

  • awesome tone

  • That sounds great. The sound doesn't match the video (it's off by a second or two), but it still sounds great.

  • Yeah, none of my vids sync up. I think it's

    my cheap camera.

  • nice playing man. i love this song.

  • Hi winnardair

Love the sound you're getting from the amp/guitar combination. I think it's pretty close to the original. IMO, the right sound is half the fun of guitar plaing.

BTW, what's that pickup in your Les Paul, a SD Pearly Gates?

  • Thanks! I do have a Pearly Gates in the bridge and an Antiquities in the neck position.

  • Thanks zzrich! I would love to see that vid, if you post it, let me know!

  • Just search zz top brown sugar, its just below your post !

  • One thing about youtube though, whether you can play better than someone else is irrelevant. This guy didn't boast or anything, he's just having a play man.

Shouldn't encouragement be given, rather than taking some pointless power trip and doing the "I'M BETTER" childish thing?

You know what; my dad's bigger than yours!

Ignore negative comments unless they're actually constructive and keep playing.

The idea of youtube is for all people to share their talents regardless of skill level.

  • Quite a nice sounding piece there, kudos! Only point to make is your timing needs to be tidied up a touch, but the notes and sounds are all there ;)

  • No offense dude but that was pretty bad. Get your chops up

  • Yeah, it's awful. I think I need a Crate amp and a Squire Strat.

  • Why do you think the dude sucks? I think it's pretty good, filmed with a cheap (obviously) camera, but not a bad clip. Where are your jam clips?

  • Jealous?!

Maybe he doesn't exactly sound like Gibbons, but he definitely doesn't suck.

    Can you play better?!

I tell you what REALLY sucks here --> all those jealous HATERS on YouTube, just like you!

  • Sir I can most definitely play better than this guy, and I hope you can too man

  • see, this is what we call 'hating' on youtube. there's really no need for it. the guy took the time out to put a clip up, and i actually found his playing to be pretty good. and on top of it all, the tone is great. so as long as people like me and others find this video worthwhile, it is.

  • snuffy shutup

  • Awesome job - any way of sharing the tab or doing this more slowly and with the camera on your fret hand?

  • Thanks, jonnymangia. I don't have any tabs, and my vids never seem to sync up with Youtube. When I get a new camera, I'll do it.

  • did u use a distortion pedal, or does the marshall slp plexi have distortion built in? i wanna get a reissue slp 1959 marshall but when i look at close up pics of it there's no gain/overdrive control if ur not using a pedal for gain how do u get it? please explain this to me, ive been wondering for a long time.

  • You get the gain from the volume knobs on the front. The 1959 is a loud amp, it's either off or full blast, so have a good tech install a master volume or buy an attenuator. On this clip, I had no pedals, but recently I got a Tubescreamer that really boosts the gain.

  • to get distortion on vintage tube amps you just turn them up really loud. technically ALL amps have distortion built in. you get it by cranking the amp. on a new amp with what you refere to as built in distortion, the "preamp" or "gain" knob is technically the volume knob, than a master volume is added to cut power from the power tubes so it aint loud.

  • thats why people say master volume amps suck tone, cause the power tubes aint working. to use a new amp like your seeing in these vintage amp vids, you would turn your master all the way to ten than only use the "gain" or "preamp" knob as your volume, but when the amp breaks up it will sound better cause all tubes are working. ALSO when using it the proper way like that, most people find that 50 watt heads are too loud.

  • Good job Winnard... just like on the record.

  • very nice...

  • Nice! I enjoyed thoroughly.

  • NICE!!!

  • Thanks. Ill be anxiously waiting.

  • Awesome tone! Where did you learn Brown sugar? Ive been looking for tab but cant find it anywhere. Could you do another video of it closer to the fretboard so I can learn it too. Thanks.

  • I learned it by ear. I never took any lessons, just played by ear. I'm looking into taking some good lessons to learn what I'm doing wrong. My camera does an awful job of syncing up the sound and video, when I get another camera I'll put it up for you.

  • It's based around the e blues scale, a lot of it in the first position using the open strings :)

  • awesome tone...not bad fingerwork either...thanks

  • Thank for the comment!

  • You know it!

  • killer tone man

  • Thanks!

  • I have the same amp but without any mods. It is way too loud for me, so I'm looking for an attentuator. Is it taking anything away from the tone?

Is it sounding better with the panel of yours? I mean the PTP board.

  • The best change in the amp was the Metroamp Dagnal clone output tranny. Like night and day!

  • sounds tasty

  • Thats a cream of a tone!

    Wow,!

  • Thanks!

  • U'd better buy a new cam..

  • hey, which is the color of your Les Paul?

  • I think it's a light honeyburst. It's unusual, not quite a cherryburst but not dark around the edges like a full honeyburst.

  • Great tone,I like it!

  • yeah i own a 1959 SLP its really great, and i also own a real 1969 LP w/ a converted paintjob/PUps to be like the 58... what a great combo eh? yes and with a little thought put mics, itll sound AMAZING (I put one on front, one behind, then one on the other side of the room)

  • That's a sweet year for Les Pauls, I'd love to play it!

  • give me your amp. . .NOW

  • NO WAY! This one's staying put!

  • Ill give ya a cookie :D

  • COLL MAN! THIS IS why I LOVE YOUTUBE. YOu can find what your lookin for ! Its ounds smooth and clean with a great midrange growl ! I am sending my 1959HW off to George for the Neg Feed move to 8 ohm, SOZO Vintage caps, Dagnell cl.one changeout, Allen Bradley resistors, etc... Im sure youve seen and heard the Soundclips under Marshall tweaks thread right? sounds great bro stock !

  • oops! Im my excitement i just told you the same thing twice. Sorry .Sounds GREAT and what was your cost>? Are the Sozo caps and tranny and pt to pt the whole migilla then? everything that was done? tx

  • I bought the amp on ebay for 700 bucks, then I put about 300 dollars into the parts and did the work myself. It's been fun learning how amps work, and making real tone.

  • Is this the 1959HW Marshall your playing through . It sounds like it. I have one as well. I resepct no pedal however i do use a TOnebone Hot British at times for sustain-more gain. I am getting an Ultimate Atennuator as well and gonna revamp the 1959HW with SOZO Vintage Caps, 8 ohm tapo Neg feed, 120 Pf cap, Dagnell clone OT from Metro, etc. Sounds excellent stock though ! GREAT STUFF

  • Thanks for the comment! This one isn't the new 1959HW, it's a regular 1959slp that I put a handwired board in. I used SOZO caps and the Dagnal clone from Metro.

    It's been a fun project!

  • That's a great sounding guitar, and I'm not even a big fan of most Les Pauls.
