The young drummers here definitely make up for their inexperience with enthusiasm. Between them and the adults, it all reminds me of the summer festival we celebrate here in Raleigh every July. Thanks for putting this video up!
Thanks you so much for your videos that I just discovered. I will be watching them again and again! I was in Japan in the 1970s and hope to return soon...
@jarny100 Thank you for watching and for taking the time to let me know you found some of the videos interesting. I will do my best to bring more and better in the future. Thanks again and have a great day! ~Kurt :-)
Hi I recently lived in Japan for three months working at a kindergarten through a program at my college and near the end of my stay the small community that the school was in put on a festival like this. About a week before they were practicing the drums and dance and they were nice enough to invite me to try dancing with them. It was one of the best experiences I had of just being welcomed into the culture.
I loved the shower of sparks at the end, I've never seen anything like it , except in the movies. I'm so envious, being unable to learn those dances!!! ~Kat
Hi Kat, I like those fireworks at the end too which they do every year. The light drives the cicada insects nuts and they start flying every which way which only adds to the excitement. We attended another festival last night where they exploded large fireworks immediately over the heads of the crowd. It was so thrilling (dangerous too I suspect) to be so close to those exploding rockets! I hope that you have a chance to visit Japan in the future and see more of this for yourself. --Kurt :-)
Thanks for watching and commenting. The little girl pretending to be a prize-fighter is my daughter, Emily. Emily was having no luck getting my attention (I could see nothing through that mask) and therefore she resorted to a one-two punch to the stomach which certainly did the job. :-) Thanks again for watching! -Kurt

Wow..Ue wo muite arukou. We sung this song at my wife's funeral and sing it at every Obon. Small village sure makes big noise. Haha

very nice insight into japanese culture. It looks real and authentic. Like this more than the normal super organised events you see on TV!
