I have a question about the torpedo. Wouldn't the water pressure in Europa's sea push the torp back up the shaft? Remember there's no air pressure on the surface to hold the water down. Europa routinely has explosive geysers.
"If it has the right chemestry" then what? life comes out of it?
sorry to interrupt scientist wet dreams but if life cannot be reprodouced here on earth and never has been documented to come from non-live matter then what makes you think that you will find life out there there just as easy as finding rocks?? Faith?
I just had a funny idea about life in Europa. If there is macroscopic life there, they could "float" inside the water, wich would make them think that the ice core is their land. So they would be living literally upside down with plants and everything growing there. Just felt like sharing the idea...
I believe that there are aliens out there, in some form of another, but I'm pretty sure that we'll never actually visit them or them visit us (except maybe a few small bacteria-like organisms). We have enough weird stuff here. Fish that use a lure with a light, eels that can open their mouths over a foot, and sharks that have gray tops and white bellies to fool predators from both directions. Also, have you seen the frilled or goblin sharks? Still, it's cool to wonder. And we can still explore
I think we will discover something within the next 5 years. From what I understand they have already started this mission but it takes about 4 years to get to Jupiter. Scientist say that we are in the golden age of space discovery. I can't wait till we hear more from this research. ;) I'm praying that all goes well and that the probe makes it on the moon without any damages.
we are still immature babies waging war with each other. but sometime soon, hopefully in my life time we shall be able to explore our own solar system to find that we are not alone.
Ok so there is life in an ocean on another planet. So what we do now? Do we send another probe worth 5-10 billion $ or do we spend those billions on scientific projects here on Earth such as increased recycling, improved energy efficiency, studying the deep ocean, and even figuring a way to deal with the space junk that is orbiting the Earth?
It could very well be a pointless gesture, we have a hard time reaching the maximum depths of our own ocean, if the ocean on Europa is 60 miles deep like some scientists suggest, then there's a problem, we can barely do that here, much less the immense pressure generated by 60 miles deep of water. We have quite a ways to go technologically speaking before we are ready to visit Europa.
@Nickademus77 oh and also, even though the gravity isn't nearly as great, the 60 mile deep ocean will still have pressures equivalent to about 8 miles (estimation) deep or so of the Earth.
Either way, it's still a hurtle that needs to be overcome.
That mission is a bust it is wishful thinking it's what nasa would like to have most of the technology they show here is about 80 years or more in the future by the slow past they are implementing. Lets be honest in all the decades the knew about Europa & all the billions of dollars spent on other mission could they not spare a little for a simple prob.
What if there imaginary high tech space ship lands on a part of Europa where the ice goes right up to the a bottom waste of money & time.
now i'm kind of hoping when you die your are reborn somewhere else in the world so i can see all the colonies humanity has in the future and if we ever discovered life on Europa
I really do hope they find life underneath the ice of Europa. It would be like the day my dad saw the Lunar Landings when he was a kid. And even though I'm 25 now, I'd probably be just as giddy.
@hellzone100 If you think about it, it's not as expensive as you might think. All the necessary technology already exists, nothing new has to be invented.
why spend millions of dollars on landing something on mars or something if there is a moon where might be a life on it.That should be the main thing to research at this point.I cant wait to see the results (i hope i see them :) )
I personally think it doesn't matter if we get PEOPLE to planets. I think HD pictures of what we want to see is good enough. Since we have the ability to travel even out the solar system, (well the last time a space station did that we lost contact) we should be able to go on plenty of mission sending robots to all the moons in our solar system. There's about 100 moons in our planet. Although of course plenty of them can be too cold too hot or have crazy gas.
@MrAndersohn Yeah, as they show us Europa in the video, you do know by the sunrise it is Europa? That son went straight up because Europa does not rotate, moons do not rotate. Earth could never have that sunrise because 1) The weakness of the shine 2) It rose straight up. This video is footage of moon Europa, they're restricted by NASA from admitting this. NASA is a dirty evil agency, it lies to us whilst using our tax dollars.
My question is if they can't send signals to the probe because even at light speed it would take a hour to get there, how would we get the information back towards us? Won't the thick ice interfere ?
@nextjuanplz They can still send probes..And I think even if there is strong radiation generated by Jupiters core, there MUST be life in teh oceans underneath the ice.
@psychonaut25 i very much hope so. i hope Europa doesn't end up being like Mars. We all thought there were Martians, but in the end, Mars was a dead world. Hopefully, Europa is different.
Great vid! Explore Europa? An extraordinarily expensive undertaking. Worth it? Absolutely! It would change our perception of ourselves and our place in the Cosmos. Even if we were another 500 years getting humans there, a few images of a Europan mollusc would keep the scientists, and all of mankind interested for generations.
It should be our highest priority. (Rather than fighting over who's religion is the best religion!)
@crocfme ----------->Wonder if they're slender purple colored humanoid lookin' ETs with tails and pointy ears out there as well? I absolutely have to bonk 1 in the name of my role model, Capitan James Tiberius Kirk!
Just imagine the degree of artificial intelligence that will be developed for this mission. Exploration of Europa is fascinating in so many ways. Even if we find a single Alien bacteria, that's going to change everything. NASA, please do this in my lifetime.
@mesofius The sunrise is to show it is done, it has happened. That sun is not earth sunrise, it's Europa. They have a flying saucer fleet that they have kept secret and that is Europa in the video. The sun rises straight up because the moon does not turn. Also note the weakness of it.
@SpearTheAlmighty Considering that new York City where I live has just decided they don't have enough money to maintain the small force of people that combats rats and mosquitos, and are decommissioning them so that we can have a genuine midieval plague here this summer, I hope they fail miserably at everything they do. Although if they do find anything interesting, you can bet they would NEVER tell you about it, even though you paid for it.
