Its unreal i love the way you guys do carpentry in my neck of the woods (ireland) there is nothing like that. Im a qualified carpenter and this stuff you guys can do is in a different league to what we have. FAIR PLAY!
Thanks! It's not an adhesive. That's for sure. It wasn't me doing it. I'm pretty sure it's flax oil and the person thought it would either lubricate or protect. We made our own pegs and they were dry larch. Larch is kind of brittle on the end grain but almost as hard as oak in most ways.

That makes sense, I suppose the oil might also help the end hold up to the mallet driving it in. Larch is a good choice, plenty of shear strength.
Our frame is all draw bored, the pegs needed to be seasoned but not too dry so I got them from Scott Northcott.

I think it might be linseed oil, but perhaps it is flax. I love the look of larch by the way, must look really nice up close. good work.
