I agree about CBBB. My favorite is and always be Woody Herman with Basie a close second, but the CBBB is my 3rd. I thought of it as the European Herman because he used 3 tenors in the sax section. If anyone is in the Dallas area on June 20th, my Pecos River Brass Big Band will be doing a tribute to Francy Boland with 14-15 of his great charts, including this Griff's Groove. Francy had a very unusual way of writing and I love it. John C. Smith

Man after Basie this was IMHO the greatest big band EVER.Certainly of the post bop era,A guy who does not get his due like others is Kimmy Woode who started with Basie.Listen to him hear or Mal Waldron's "Black Glory".WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Try listening playing "Groovin' Hard" - with Don Menza playing and leading. Germany has such a gathering of great big bands. Although I feel the colleges in the USA seem to be continuing the good cause - can anybody confirm?
