  • #1 on the Hit Parade, December 7 1941.

  • Just reading the comments on this. Rather than being from the Manhattan Transfer Show, I would have thought it was 99% certain to be from The Two Ronnies, all of which were mimed to pre-recording. The staging would suggest that – and that fact that it carries the logo of UK Gold which would have reshown Two Ronnies but not, as far as I know, the MT Show.

  • More guailos should wear chinese clothes. REVERSECOLONIZATION

  • e.i. 27 clis cin pirvelad movismine es simgera da imis mere mimachnia rom ert-erti ulamazesi melodiaa da MT chemi sayvareli jgufia. Bravo!

  • I am not necessarily saying it wasprerecorded, just "enhanced" elextronically some way. Having heard MT in live performance they don't need any such alteration of thier sound.

If you want to see and example of prerecorded go watch Laurel hulaher way through "Walk in Love" (from the Two Ronnies Brit TV show) As she sings watch her lovely abdomen on sustained notes and note no contraction meaning that she was lip synching. This was and is a very common practice on TV musical variety shows.

  • The sound processing (compression?) makes it sound like it was recorded in the bottom of a well and partly submerged at that. If this was the idea it was a bad one.

  • Laurel herself told me that they did not pre-record any of the songs from this television series. They sang them all live on the soundstage as they were being filmed. I'm not sure why this sounds as it does here, but it sounded normal when originally broadcast.

  • yeah! i'm from singapore! apparently some people still think singapore's a part of china. ugh.

okay, sorry to digress...love this song =P

  • The videop is fantastic, one of mi favourits.

The only problem is the sound, I dont know if is mi pc or the speaker but it comes through very low in sound.

    Any answers?

  • This was a hit for Frank Sinatra singing with the Harry James band and also for the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1939.

  • Awesome! es simghera chemi cxovrebis fonia...(ukve 25 tselia)

  • Sergios, thanks again for all the great material you keep coming up with for the group.

  • Oh this is great! Where do you get all these bits? Btw, could you bump the volume up a bit?

  • Hey man what did you tell me!!! I see you must really like O Mio babbino caro!! It's great I also love it....

  • What did I tell you? You mean in another piece, about the DVD? I still say buy it, it's cheap after all. _This_ stuff here, on the other hand, is not available on any DVDs (a great shame), and I admire 'sergio' for ferreting out all these little videos somewhere and posting them here. But this particular one is hard to hear... Believe me, if I could only buy all this stuff on DVD, I certainly would.

  • Mio babbino caro is a great song, yes, I like it a lot. I think the words don't quite match the music, but then who cares, I just ignore them.

  • It's the sound thats great on Mio babbino caro...I like mrtbags version of A little Street in Singapore more. Have the "CD" but it doesn't sound as good! Living in the states you would have a better selection than we get out here. Have you asked Sergio where he gets them? ciao M

  • "out here" where? There's one CD with this piece; I have it; it's quite good. There's no video. The only MT videos I know of are the concert in Japan in '85 (or '86?) and something Christmas, very recent. I have asked I think a few times, but he doesn't tell. Well, it must be old TV footage. I'd love to have it on DVD, cleaned up and nice.

  • Mmmm!! I live in New Zealand - "gods own" so they say ha M

  • Ah, I heard it's a nice place! So what are you saying, you don't have an equivalent to the US choice of MT records ?

  • As we rely on imports I would imagine record stores etc. would only import what is in demand...Where as living in the States you have it all at your fingertips, except what is produced in the UK I guess! Can you not download these videos from you tube? M

  • I just learned that I can, actually. I'm still not sure how to convert them into a playable format though. But would it not be nice to have a nice-quality DVD with this stuff?

  • Sure would - but I am quiet happy just to poke around in here - It is amazing what I have found without really looking...Have to rely on using the computer at work as mine is sick, which limits me unfortunately...

  • I see on other comments a response from Sergio in Spanish, perhaps he doesn't speak English??

  • I seem to remember that he does, at least somewhat. No trouble understanding.

  • This footage, and most others on youtube with Laurel Masse as an MT member, are from a summer replacement tv series starring the Manhattan Transfer which aired in 1975.
