then i went to great yarmouth to find out caister pontin gone too why the better pontins site have been shut down?or were they the bigger sites cause most left are the smallers ones, and i went to pakefield not long ago, i never go again !!! but loved blackpool cant belive it gone
so so sad to see this, i just remember the happy chidhood times we had therethen took my own kids,, then went to book a yearor so back to fine it shut, i felt if a peace of me gone with it so so sad, why ? why blackpool ? :>(
aww i was soo upset watching this i went pontins every year my whole life!!!!!i love blackpool pontins! it will never be forgotten! I HAVE TO GO TO THE BREAN SANDS ONE NOW! i love you pontins blackpool! xxxx <3
@djcallum2011 im not so sure now that Britannia Hotels have brought the Brand, looks like Alex Langsam (owner) is ripping the rest of the heart and soul out of Pontins. To think this billionaire brought an iconic brand that had been pecked over by voltures for the past 10 years and is now stripping the bones! This is the end of Pontins guys. Britannia run Hotels, not very successfully at that and when it comes to Holiday Parks they havent got a clue either!Poor Pontins i fear this is the end now
As an ex proffesional wrestler,i did shows there from 1974 to 1986,and met many friends there in that time,it was the best camp of them all,and my grandma ,uncle and auntie lived on the camp when it was Squires gate in 1951/2,sadly missed.
its sad that the pontins in blackpool has gone for me pontins has always been my home as i grew up on pontins as a kid and throughout my childhood and i saw so many people arrive and have a great time and enjoyed their holiday and left with happy memories. i am now 18 and it is hard to see the pictures of the camp now as i still feel like its my home and my home is now gone but the camp will never be forgotten or the memorys i have of the holiday makers or my pontins family
Met my first love there in 1970, when I was 16. We went back in 2005. It was as if time had stood still, in more ways than one. So sad, all gone forever.
Im a Manager for Pontins Holidays and this is the first time i have looked at the Park since the anouncement in 2009 that it was to close, i wasnt able to bring myself to see the Park in those few weeks before it finally closed or to say goodbye to any of my colleagues who worked on that Park.
The owner of the land should have a lot of guilt on his shoulders for helping to ruin a Great British Iconic name. And to think this guy started off as a brickie for Sir Fred Pontin, shame on him!
Ya its a real shame and as a visitor to this park for the last couple of years it was really sad to go around the camp when it was closed,it was like a ghost town, hard to believe a place that was so full of life could be so quiet .
@martymart1980 I was a Bluecaot and a entertainments Manager here for 3 seasons during the mid 80's ..When they started knocking this site down it was criminal..One of the most valueble assets that Pontins had..many great memories ..
yeh and because if this person i ended up in rubbish haven camp. Pontins is the only holiday camp that is the closest to a nostalgic 70s holiday camp and thats why love it so much.
Butlins and haven, have lost there soul, there just heartless overpriced, money grabbing twats. So it breaks my heart when another camp shuts. Its just such a waste
It must be more awful for you though. Do you know why they closed it
@coolkitten86 i was told by one of the managers who worked there that the owner of the land who pontins payed yearly rent for increased the price by quite a lot and it was too much for pontins as they wouldn't be able to make a profit to keep upgrading the site over the years so pontins said they wouldn't pay it.
@martymart1980 to think i actually burst out into tears looking at these photos! how fucking evil can people be! but hey its a loss of one park! pontins will live on and continue entertaining families :)
had very happy memories working here as a cellar man and bar worker, made some very true friends, really miss the place and looking at this video just breaks my heart.
Sadly a place now I will never get to see, I was shocked to discover when it was closed in 2009. then the last was they had a fire somewhere on the site.
Just an update on the site, they have started to demolish the site, the bar, leisure centre and swimming pool are demolished now along with alot of the accommodation, very sad to see.
