i watched this in school like... 3 years ago? ...and i've just watched it during my free time. this has never happened before.
I wanted to watch it again. because it's a message worth thinking about in this documentary. This is incredibly wellmade, making me want to come back and listen to it's message again.
The message itself is... well... i agree with most of it. It's a message that's worth to think about.
I have a game called supreme commander forged alliance. If you play the game with computer players who are you're allies and without enemies, you know what the computer does? It keeps on building, growing, consuming. Just like us. And when it has build to the max, it just starts nuking itself, it just destroys itself and starts building again. I know this is just a simple computer, but if even an computer thinks that the only way to sustain growth is selfdestruction then what choice do we have?
Brilliant documentary! I remember watching this a while ago, and I'm glad I have again. There's not much media out there on anti-capitalistic, or anti-materialistic, values. Hopefully this video will cause people to question, just what are we really doing? I think chimps are still smarter than humans..
Well I'm all for the zeitgeist movement and a Resource based economy. You see, I like to move forwards not backwards. But hey! If you want to live in the stone age you can do it now!! You just need something around 14 people and a little space in a forest! You don't need humanity to follow your dream for you to achieve it! Do it!!! =)
This documentary could've been half as long as it is in this format. Some things need repeating to drive home a point. Not everything. Overall, it presents a few different perspectives with a basic message that consumerism is out of control in the 1st world, which is only made possible by the exploitation of the other 80% of humanity. But I feel that the message's strength is weakened by the formatting and production. Just my personal opinion.
i suppose everyone that hasnt enjoyed this video was watching it on their 40'' lcd television made by chineses and indians who don't even know whats the smell of money
Humans are not that many, the illusion of overpopulation is alive only in cities, where the people live side by side, one under the other. If we spread people all over the habitable zones of the planet in small cities or villages powered and connected with CLEAN technology, and if we provide a good education based on the respect of life, nature and reason, the world would be very different I guess.
@17secret in 200 years, over population will a problem. the only thing that stops over population is the fact that more than 20,000 people die every day from lack of food.
@17secret we don't have any clean sources of energy to move resources around to all the little utopias across the world, in your vision. we'd still have to extract fossil fuels as fast as we can, until we can't, at which point the whole system falls apart.
that is to say, your vision for the world is no different from the world we live in. carrying capacity has nothing to do with the density of a population over a given area.
@17secret it doesn't matter how many people are working on a problem if the problem is impossible. how many tried to find the way to square the circle before it was proved impossible?
i didn't say no clean energy whatsoever, just no clean energy for transport. but that's beside the point. it isn't a problem to be solved. it's a limitation that should be embraced, because it allows our civilization to only grow so large before it implodes like every other civilization that has ever been.
I think that technology is one and consuming has nothing to do with it.we just have to start value life upon everything else.We have to imagine that we will live in peace thats all. Aggression in any form even in our mind causes it.I think we all are being made up by nature and we all are becoming another lost civilization thats infinity cycle
This movie is like "capitalism or socialism. And look how bad capitalism is" No it is not that simple. "capitalism" is now corporatism(fascism) (merger of state and corporate power) because they(corporations) lobbied themselves into being monopolies. ("competition is a sin"-Rockefeller) Socialism is not the answer. There are more than two ways of thinking.
This is Anarcho-primitivism, not simply socialism. This video is wrong in portraying technology as being the fundamental flaw of modern society, and the question is no longer about U.S. vs Cuba. Scott, good luck with the free market when cyberneted artificial intelligence has a higher success rate in heart surgery, which will happen. Show me where the jobs will be when YOU are inferior in every job sector. Convince me the monetary system can survive this.
The monetary system is not supposed to survive. We're supposed to get microchipped and rationed everything we are supposed to want that way. Forget fiat paper. forget gold backed currency. Its gonna be labor backed. As long as you are in good standing with the governmnet. I think you know the alternative...
Which is exactly why I fear continuing down our current path. If you don't like socialism, you better get used to it. Fewer and fewer people will have jobs, and more and more people will be completely dependent on their redistributed wealth.
This movie doesn't glorify Castro or socialism. I think this movie shows how imperfect both systems are. And their lack of perfection is not so strange, they're created by humans and are therefor created for humans at there best, cos' we always think very highly of ourselves. But just because we're the smartest ones on this planet doesn't make us intelligent. Maybe someone should come up with a system based on humans at our worst. But then again I guess that system would be what we call nature.
ahahaha! Amen dude! Free-market capitalism/ Constitutional Republic just got hijacked by people like Rockafeller, and that's why its been going fascist, I think. Again, Benito's definition of fascism.
It's not technology that's flawed. Technology is only the application of knowledge. The more knowledge the more technological application, which translates into more control and freedom in our physical world. What's flawed is our behavior, which has and continues to evolve as our knowledge of the universe continues. There is no such thing as human "nature," there is only human "behavior."
What's important about this, is that the technology that is literally right around the corner in the form of Artificial intelligence and cybernated machines, will open doors to social structures previously impossible. We will be able to create an abundance for all of mankind, while at the same time, creating a symbiotic relationship with the natural world. The competitive market will not only be obsolete, but impossible within this emergent society.
What aspects of this are you specifically referring to?
The energy monopoly has been fighting advancements in energy technology dating all the way back to Tesla, I don't expect them to sit idly by as new technology forces them into a state of insignificance - BUT they will not win. There are too many brilliant people out there developing too many new technologies to shut this down forever. Technology will ultimately be our liberator.
if you watch this movie whit 70% contiusness about our theological existans then you understands that this movie is just for the kids out there ... about tesla and the briliant people ...tesla probebly was a genius but what we se now is crap ,why? coz they are corupted ,and the do'nt evin feel ashame to admit it ... well if talkign about military than i can say you that there exists microwave boms ... did you know? did some military general know it? mabe 1% ...
in the 40's we had blueray cd's or evin bether...laptops and blablabla ... if that was back then, than yo ucan iamgine what is right now ... no , actualy you can't, - imagine ...so why is noone itredusing theas beautifull things? to big change? is it somethign els? or is it bekos someone dont wants us to know the real real reaaaal "realety" not this ... but still it's a 1lvl introduction movie... technology is primitive , our body is stronger
i had the same problem the first time... it is nonsens , but that's hou the realety is ... we are in a box , we don't udnerstand what's outside ... what i'm telling you is actualy simple , evin if its nonsens you can imagine it ... the point of this world is not technology ..evolution ,to survive ... it's is to uderstand , theas antigloball girls and boys do not understa,d , the old man whit glases does ,but don't say a shit about it , he feers, can't you hear it in his voice ? ...
Every social structure we've went through in the past was just one transitional period emerging into another, and this does not end with capitalism. This video is correct in portraying what gives our lives value, but it doesn't have to come at the cost of modern technology. It isn't an either or scenario. Capitalism is inevitably going to create a situation where nearly all jobs can, and most likely will, be replaced by cybernetic machines.
You'll keep your freedom? I don't think you know the meaning of the word. Freedom to vote?...what, for a representative cast from the same mold? Freedom of fair judicial representation?... you have the money you can do no wrong, you don't, you can do no right. Are you free to light up a joint? Hell, are you even free to decide whether or not you can where a fucking seat belt in your own car!? We don't know what freedom is, and 'private property' doesn't encapsulate freedom in it's entirety.
I think you missed my point. But it looks like you are promoting a zeitgeist style technocracy, and im not down for it. I would like to see as little government as we could get, but that is the opposite of what is happening. Hopefully it will hit a point really soon where its so big it cant hold itself up anymore then we can make the bad guys do some work. That would be cool. Id like to see Geithner or Blair get a blister. haha End the Fed and UN. that would fix alot, there.
@scottoknows Less government is still government. If we keep on using a monetary system Government (even if very small) Will start to get corrupt we've seen it THOUSANDS of times through history. The smallest form of government is a dictatorship and well... It doesn't work... Nothing that comes in contact with money has worked or will ever work. And you can just look back at humanity's history and search for the common denominator. The problem lies within the use of money not governments...
Technological evolution has increased our standard of living, our understanding of the universe, and will ultimately free us from the drudgery of menial labor - and that has always been the point. It's not technology that's the problem, it's our social design. Capitalism isn't sustainable, but without it we wouldn't have the tremendous advancements in technology we've experienced over the last 100 years. I don't despise capitalism because I know that every social structure is emergent.
i agree with primitivism but it's unfortunate they relied on a soundtrack of techno made by machines manufactured largely by exploiting 3rd world labor. but anything for the message, right? anyway, 99.8% of humanity must die to re-achieve the ideal hunter-gatherer society. but i'mready for it as long as my infant daughter survives the initial liquidation...................
they didnt have war but they fought for everything! war was inevitable when the populace got larger people are stupid beasts waiting to club each other apes in suits at their best
this documentary is a good eye-opener for i hope a lot of people, but indeed it does not go in depth. try watching The Century of the Self from adam curtis.
still, not very informative, and I do agree that there can be a more constructive solution. it is true that change is needed, but I believe that provied that we do not kill ourseleves before, we can create a better world for everyone. technology is still new (only about two centuries) we should not be afraid of it, but we should prevent companies from restraining development, we can do better. and technology can e harmonized with nature
Truthfully, there is no other solution unless....... I just recieved an email from a guy who consults with the UN on environmental issues. I take him from him, he says were pretty fucked and theres nothing we can do about it, green technology could work, but the fact is governments aren't going to do it in time, he says. So unless the people force governments to do something, we might as well just off our selves.
wonderful...great craft, great music, great voice editing, great message...great work you people...bravo...it is a gem....a true cool little picture of what is soon coming down and ending...and leaving the open way for a new and truly human and enjoyable and healing new culture.
work together for a balance. Any extreme won't work be it capitalism or communism.
whenever there is "we & them", "rich and poor", etc it won't work. Of course people are different but there should be better ways to acknoledge that difference than money
Yeah? Like those 9 minutes quasi-docus on youtube?
You know... where some idiot just rips a few videos from others put on o forutna or the music score from the matrix or requiem for a dream and let tons of text flash in front of your eyes for a split second in between videos.
He's totally vague on how multinationals are wiping out freedom, though I tend to agree. The notion that wiping out differences is actually a bad thing needs to be defended because I'd certainly tend to be a proponent of them being wiped out, as long as the cultural diffusion is multi-direction and not just Americanization (assimilation)
not huh mutha fucka.. many of us are ANTI this type of stuff.... the world is the way it is because of thousands of years of greed and elitism.... i refuse to be your scape goat.... you cant even single out corporations (although in the future u will) humanity as a whole has chosen this bull shit. its time 2 revolt against this childish folly.
Capitalism is the way, there just needs to be less environmental degradation. As a Cuban exile me and my family have known the horrors of a communist and repressive regime, and "rice and beans" is not all there is to life.
Democracy beckons technology which will in turn help us be more sustainable, solar and wind energy anyone?
I don't see this happening with anarcho-primitivism. It would make many people unhappy to satisfy the needs of some loonies.
Putting a steriotypical "caveman" on this does not help the arguments. No Homo sapiens would settle for such idiotic clothing. I mean for lands' sake, the fur is on the OUTside!
Excellent work! I believe that the solution for stopping or at least reducing this destroying way of living is combining: 1) to buy and consume strictly what you need in terms of food, clothes, household and recycling at the highest level the results of this; and 2) to start consuming more and more services like culture, eco tourism, etc - things that really grow your spirit, gives you deep understanding to people next to you, long term satisfaction and protecting the nature.
Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted - Aldous Huxley
-The ultimate test of man's conscience may be his willingness to sacrifice something today for future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard. Gaylord Nelson
Tolerance has become so important that no exception is tolerated.
Charles Colson
We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them. Einstein
Interesting.........a buddhist quote mankind can 'never have enough....becuase enough is never enough'.
In our raw state (eg as Stone age man) we are still genetically programmed to be selfish, self seeking and competitive. We are also programmed to be loving, selfless etc.Its about finding the balance. And we are not at the moment.
The powe of making it better is taking decisions by your own! Destroying property is free violence with no purpose and don´t bring anyone to think about How consumism is making our lives worse day by day. The power is the information. The power is the knowledge. It hurts much more when you realize that your good makes it worse for somebody else. We must find a way that's good at least for the most.
Property destruction won't do anything other than give them an excuse to collect insurance and have more media propaganda to use against us. The answer is to boycott, just don't go there. Don't spend your money there, don't support their business.
besides the property destruction shit is covered in anti terrorism laws, covered by completely unconstitutional treatment and black hole prison body snatching powers.
Probs we face trace back to the start of the industrial age. Men formed soulless partnerships to work in concert w/other soulless groups to expand greed, stifle competition. Like JD Rockefeller said, "competition is a sin". The most active industry at present is making/keeping people ignorant. Look at diamonds, the entire industry is a scam & came into being thru Hollywood, royalty and greed driven Zionists. Stop supporting plastic and plastic people, go back to trading w/family/friends.
I wish a simple life was possible.. but in order to live in most areas.. we have to have jobs.. and have to consume in order to live and to have a roof over your head. Sometimes i think that .. if a piece of land is open.. you should be able to live on it.. but its not like that. I wish we were not so reliant on money.. or Items.. I think we can have things we want but not to much of it. Like kids don't need 500+ toys. Humans are like parasites..
I agree that simple protesting does not have the effect on people that mindless destructive riotous behavior does but i bet if i asked them, most of the people breaking windows or flipping/setting fires to cars would say they have no idea why they are committing these acts. Not to mention, the people inconvenienced by these are hardly ever responsible for the reasons for the riotous behavior. Mass destruction of industry and consumables i fear would not bring the vid author's desired result.
If someone is putting their happiness into futile things like material goods, They can search for a long time.
On the other side, I believe that humanity is slowly coming back to the nomadic lifestyle. We can do everything now with a laptop, a cellphone and a credit card. Soon small communities will have the same edge than metropolis. It will be an exciting thing to see.
Your 'we' seems to be very Eurocentric... Also your idea of community is weak: As if there could be community where our relationships are not immediate but mediated by money and technology. And then the production of all these cadgets depends on heavy division of labor, which means that having them is not only a matter of coercing ppl into the mines etc, but also a matter of handing our common, immediate and spontaneous self-determination over to specialists in politics and government.
I can think by myself and my thinking tells me that I refuse to let go fancy western medicine items (Like Antibiotics or Insulin) to live an idyllic cavemen lifestyle. As far as the western monopoly on medicine goes, it exist because our medicine works. Unlike other "alternative" ideas, we don't need a piece of an endangered animal to get a boner, we can use viagra.
As far as I see this, we are evolved animals. We are still midway to elsewhere
Nearly all communicable diseases have their origins at the root of civilisation: strains of pathogens started to mutate heavily as they went back and forth between newly domesticated animals and their domesticators. Epidemics caused by these 'civilised' pathogens are the direct result of population growth and urbanisation (major indicators of civilisation). Diabetes again is a good example of a disease related to Western standard of living, and as we know, the list of these is long.
Add the accidents (traffic, industry, mining, chemicals etc.), impoverished diets, toxic substances in food, and on top of the list organised warfare... And paradoxically we see that Western medicine is largely a struggle against maladies that result from a social organisation without which it couldn't exist in the first place. And by the way, without industrial civilization most endangered species wouldn't be endangered anyway.
Health in primitive communities is based on the fact that their daily activities and nutrition corresponds to what we are biologically adapted to. They see dis-ease as an indication of an imbalance within the community of life which calls for conciliation. Western techno-scientific medicine on the other hand identifies an enemy and attacks it in a militarist fashion. This resembles the difference between conciliatory (primitive) and accusatory (Imperial/Inquisition/modern) conception of justice.
Dear people that post crap messages as an anwser to this docu.. I find it very childish to react in this way.. but then again.. your from america.. and im from "the old country" europe.. if you are in the problem yourself you cant see it.. but your probably your just one of many that doesnt make a change..poor you.. Just watch and dont SHOUT.. thats bs
So, you want a "Simple, fulfilling life"? Okay, go get one.
This is the hypocrisy of this whole video; I allerady got that life because I don't care about what other says, I make my life as I want it. I spend my money where I want too.
Unlike others, I don't have to validate my life by breaking some stuff that doesn't belongs to me. I don't have to give up Internet of modern medecine to do it also.
hahaha dude, i just love the way you're so fckin angry! hahaha
since you went so mad at the vid, it's pretty much obvious you didn't get your supposed 'simple, fulfilling life'
so, why dont you stop ignoring all the point of the video? our lifestyle is destroying everything, and we need more 'simple, fulfilling' values if we want to stop it
I am mad at that vid because it goes against everything I believe. I hold my own will as the driving force of my life. Anyone can live the life of a nomad today if they want too. you don't need to smash something to change things, just make other choices.
Using violence to change someone's values got a name: Fascism. Remember the Unabomber.
so, why dont you stop ignoring all the point of the video? our lifestyle is destroying everything, and we need more 'simple, fulfilling' values if we want to stop it
The point of this video is "Cavemen lifestyle is great", "Destroying stuff is okay if it doesn't belongs to you" and "THEY are out there to get US!!!".
You want to fight consumerism? It is really simple; treat anything you buy as a tool. If we start to buy to fulfill a real need instead of validating ourselves, we would see the end of consumerism inside of a year.
plus, there are something like 6 billion people in the same situation, and civilization has always to grow, has always to destroy and assimilate everything on its path
that certainly is a big problem to all the non-civilized forms of live, dont you think
(3-3) I can understand your feelings; the human mind never evolved to deal with Multi-million people cities (or even driving a car...). The human species also take a huge chunk of space right now. The thing is, what are you planning to do to help the rest of the tribe? The only way to move the cogs is by giving something worthy back. Now, it's up to you.
I would rather says something like "Capitalism Vs. Consumerism". For me, consumerism is the real enemy. To quote the movie Fight Club:" We are working jobs we don't like to buy things we don't need".
But, once again, it is as easy to buy GAP clothing that torching a GAP store so it doesn't really helps...
(2-3)"the problem is that I know no other way of living but as an insect/civilian"
Living another way than a cog in a machine is simple; Do something amazing. Look at anyone who is known currently or in history, regardless of the size of his-her fame. They all did something amazing, large or small. Get out of the ranks and be remembered.
as an individual, I can't do much. That's what im doing: not much.
The idea of tribal life is really exciting to me. The closeness and how involved you get with the rest of the family, I think THAT would be really fulfiller
so, what can I do to help others? Well, that's what im trying here.
but I don't know if EVERY1's gonna be happier if we leave civilization. I know that we'll stop destroying everything. We will stop being the cancer and begin to cooperate with the other cells.
personally, im not satisfied with our futile lifestyle. But there are those who really love it. They may not be majority, but they exist. And happiness and fulfillment IS something possible in civilization. But well, what can I say? It is unsustainable happiness
May I kindly suggest that you interest yourself in an Earthship? Go to EarthshipDOTnet, It might be something worthy of you. They are a brunch of extreme ecologists who own great looking houses made of tires. They got a little autonomous community in New Mexico. Maybe it's something worthy of you. Please check it out.
If you would have said that your ''slightly less conformist than other people'' it would have been believable. But the type of ''I JUST DUN'T GIVE A FUCK YEAH!!1'' comments are just silly.
Lets say you suddenly got the urge of buying a pink little dress with a pony on it. Would you really buy it? Probably not. Of course you could always say it's because you'd never want one of those in the first place. But that you somehow would happen to ''not want'' everything that'd make you gruesomely unpopular because you are automatically genetically program med to dislike it is not likely.
Hanggud, I always been "Gruesomely Unpopular" anyway. This taught me some lessons about life, the first thing is to not follow the herd like a dumb sheep.
You need very little to live: Food, Clothing and a Roof. The rest is gravy. I apply the "Don't want? Don't buy" for the rest and if you find me weird to buy a cute little pink dress, i can always tell you to take a hike! ;)
I never *encouraged* people to live like dumb sheeps, I meant that people usually end up doing so anyway wether they like to admit it or not. If you really are an individual I'm glad about it. But really, pretty much every single person under twenty five seem to claim that they don't care about what other people think and do what they want, which is just a load of crap. For every couple of thousand people who claim to be individuals, only one is honest.
satail - we can choose between corporations, but social pressure prevents us from choosing nothing. we can all have everything (impossible) or all nothing (damn near impossible without massive destruction). to say some can consume while others don't - that's why we're now fighting a war against "terror".
choosing not to consume just isn't enough. that's just apathy of a different stripe. in the absence of a better idea, destruction is as good a choice as any. every suicide bomber knows that.
I hope you didn't use a computer to create or post this clip. That would be soooo consumerist. Ick! Primitive man was no better than modern man. Evidence shows that from 12-14,000 years ago most large mammals were wiped out of the Americas, the same time the glaciers melted to allow entry to what we now call Native Americans. Not that I think consumerism is good, but it's a personal choice, not a homogenous ideal.
'Primitive' and 'modern' Homo sapiens is biologically one and the same being, so in that sense we've definitely had the capacity to destroy our habitat 14.000 yrs ago.
As humans have entered new bioregions, they have many times disrupted the native ecosystems just as any invasive species may do. The sustainable praxis of 'primitive' humans are not based on wild instinct, but on traditional ecological knowledges that have evolved through trial and error within a particular bioregion.
i watched this in school like...
It's the truth.

0murdock0 2 years ago
This movie doesn't glorify Castro or socialism. I think this movie shows how imperfect both systems are. And their lack of perfection is not so strange, they're created by humans and are therefor created for humans at there best, cos' we always think very highly of ourselves. But just because we're the smartest ones on this planet doesn't make us intelligent. Maybe someone should come up with a system based on humans at our worst. But then again I guess that system would be what we call nature.

To think a new social wont coincide with the emergence of these incredible technologies is naive.
0murdock0 2 years ago
It's not technology that's flawed. Technology is only the application of knowledge. The more knowledge the more technological application, which translates into more control and freedom in our physical world. What's flawed is our behavior, which has and continues to evolve as our knowledge of the universe continues. There is no such thing as human "nature," there is only human "behavior."
0murdock0 2 years ago
What's important about this, is that the technology that is literally right around the corner in the form of Artificial intelligence and cybernated machines, will open doors to social structures previously impossible. We will be able to create an abundance for all of mankind, while at the same time, creating a symbiotic relationship with the natural world. The competitive market will not only be obsolete, but impossible within this emergent society.

0murdock0 2 years ago 3
...and where will you go? are we planning an invasion or something?
0murdock0 2 years ago
I think you missed my point. But it looks like you are promoting a zeitgeist style technocracy, and im not down for it. I would like to see as little government as we could get, but that is the opposite of what is happening. Hopefully it will hit a point really soon where its so big it cant hold itself up anymore then we can make the bad guys do some work. That would be cool. Id like to see Geithner or Blair get a blister. haha End the Fed and UN. that would fix alot, there.
scottoknows 2 years ago 2
@scottoknows Less government is still government. If we keep on using a monetary system Government (even if very small) Will start to get corrupt we've seen it THOUSANDS of times through history. The smallest form of government is a dictatorship and well... It doesn't work... Nothing that comes in contact with money has worked or will ever work. And you can just look back at humanity's history and search for the common denominator. The problem lies within the use of money not governments...
ElThrash1 5 months ago
Technological evolution has increased our standard of living, our understanding of the universe, and will ultimately free us from the drudgery of menial labor - and that has always been the point. It's not technology that's the problem, it's our social design. Capitalism isn't sustainable, but without it we wouldn't have the tremendous advancements in technology we've experienced over the last 100 years. I don't despise capitalism because I know that every social structure is emergent.

still, not very informative, and I do agree that there can be a more constructive solution. it is true that change is needed, but I believe that provied that we do not kill ourseleves before, we can create a better world for everyone. technology is still new (only about two centuries) we should not be afraid of it, but we should prevent companies from restraining development, we can do better. and technology can e harmonized with nature

Truthfully, there is no other solution unless....... I just recieved an email from a guy who consults with the UN on environmental issues. I take him from him, he says were pretty fucked and theres nothing we can do about it, green technology could work, but the fact is governments aren't going to do it in time, he says. So unless the people force governments to do something, we might as well just off our selves.

whenever there is "we & them", "rich and poor", etc it won't work. Of course people are different but there should be better ways to acknoledge that difference than money
treta99 3 years ago
indeed. a society that only values it's people by their productivity is unhealthy, since we're all doomed to decay.
whether we live in a social or liberal society, there must always be a respectable amount of opposition to avoid self destruction.
freedom and justice mustn't be each others extremes, and money shouldn't be the main motivation for good citizenship.

What we do know, is that few bones of ancient

I agree, just the lack of access to medical care or basic sanitation means that the primitive man lived a pretty hellish live.
But some people have this fantasy that the primitive man lived in harmony with Nature, that's an illusion.

Destroying property is free violence with no purpose and don´t bring anyone to think about How consumism is making our lives worse day by day. The power is the information.

SatanicCod 4 years ago
Your 'we' seems to be very Eurocentric... Also your idea of community is weak: As if there could be community where our relationships are not immediate but mediated by money and technology. And then the production of all these cadgets depends on heavy division of labor, which means that having them is not only a matter of coercing ppl into the mines etc, but also a matter of handing our common, immediate and spontaneous self-determination over to specialists in politics and government.

LeusMaquiavitch 4 years ago
I can think by myself and my thinking tells me that I refuse to let go fancy western medicine items (Like Antibiotics or Insulin) to live an idyllic cavemen lifestyle. As far as the western monopoly on medicine goes, it exist because our medicine works. Unlike other "alternative" ideas, we don't need a piece of an endangered animal to get a boner, we can use viagra.
As far as I see this, we are evolved animals. We are still midway to elsewhere
SatanicCod 4 years ago
Nearly all communicable diseases have their origins at the root of civilisation: strains of pathogens started to mutate heavily as they went back and forth between newly domesticated animals and their domesticators. Epidemics caused by these 'civilised' pathogens are the direct result of population growth and urbanisation (major indicators of civilisation). Diabetes again is a good example of a disease related to Western standard of living, and as we know, the list of these is long.
kuparanto 4 years ago
Add the accidents (traffic, industry, mining, chemicals etc.), impoverished diets, toxic substances in food, and on top of the list organised warfare... And paradoxically we see that Western medicine is largely a struggle against maladies that result from a social organisation without which it couldn't exist in the first place. And by the way, without industrial civilization most endangered species wouldn't be endangered anyway.
kuparanto 4 years ago
Health in primitive communities is based on the fact that their daily activities and nutrition corresponds to what we are biologically adapted to. They see dis-ease as an indication of an imbalance within the community of life which calls for conciliation. Western techno-scientific medicine on the other hand identifies an enemy and attacks it in a militarist fashion. This resembles the difference between conciliatory (primitive) and accusatory (Imperial/Inquisition/modern) conception of justice.

The point of this video is "Cavemen lifestyle is great", "Destroying stuff is okay if it doesn't belongs to you" and "THEY are out there to get US!!!".
You want to fight consumerism? It is really simple; treat anything you buy as a tool. If we start to buy to fulfill a real need instead of validating ourselves, we would see the end of consumerism inside of a year.

the point of the vid isnt this
this is a dualism you built so you can more easily deal with it
'stone age or civilization'

LeusMaquiavitch 4 years ago
plus, there are something like 6 billion people in the same situation, and civilization has always to grow, has always to destroy and assimilate everything on its path
that certainly is a big problem to all the non-civilized forms of live, dont you think
LeusMaquiavitch 4 years ago
(3-3) I can understand your feelings; the human mind never evolved to deal with Multi-million people cities (or even driving a car...). The human species also take a huge chunk of space right now. satail - we can choose between corporations, but social pressure prevents us from choosing nothing. we can all have everything (impossible) or all nothing (damn near impossible without massive destruction). to say some can consume while others don't - that's why we're now fighting a war against "terror".
choosing not to consume just isn't enough. that's just apathy of a different stripe. in the absence of a better idea, destruction is as good a choice as any. every suicide bomber knows that.
