Hey man, epic job well done, crazy alternate tunings, how the hell do they remember all that man? You put mad feeling into this, enjoyed hearing. I did a Hoarfrost cover, scope it if your feelin up to it.
@mellowtonen - Thanks a lot buddy, appreciated. I guess they just write the tunings down either on the respective guitars or on papers - hopefully haha.
Glad you find my enthusiasm pleasing - I've had lots of fun and still lots to come :) Stay tuned.
@FxHFilms - Hey, and thanks a lot. Appreciated. I haven't made any tabs but maybe you can find them in the SY tab archive. Not sure they match up though. When I tuned into the right tuning, I just watched a lot of live shows (Thurstons part) and a lot of listening to the record. But you're not the first to ask so maybe I should just write it down :)
@sheridanj13 - I usually tune both of them down. B down 7 and E down 9. But yeah, it kinda sounds sloppy but it just sounds wrong if you tune them up instead.
@nurseslacker - well, I did not use the one used at the official website and to be honest there's so many of them that are really incorrect or does not match up in the end in my opinion. Besides, my videos are not instructions but interpretations or covers. I don't care what's right or wrong.
@AllLiberalMusic - Thanks a lot buddy. Don't have any tabs for you, sorry. But it's not that hard actually. Just watch some SY live shows and keep the tuning going, then you should be on your way :)
I wish I had lived my adolescence in the 80. It's a strange sensation of having been born in the wrong time, wrong in a decade. I would like to have lived near this season, must have been wonderful for young people.
@artdecade1984 - I agree. I did some of my youngster-time in the 80's. I was born in 1977 but still I was way too young to get into SY or even really good music at all haha. It wasn't until around 1990 before I really got into music that actually matters. Hendrix, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M. - all that jazz :)
@nvanliforp I was born in 86 ... my adolescence was a time not very favorable for really good bands. The fact that helped me meet bands were good friends older than me, and they knew good bands, I was a precocious little girl and I felt good with them. I heard a lot of Nirvana, Smashing and REM and stuff like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Roxy Music...When we enjoy good music the moments are striking, although not in the decade we would like to have lived.
@artdecade1984 - well it seems to me that your taste in music is pretty alright :) Lots of the same things that I listened to myself. In the last 6-7 years I've really put an enormous efford in knowing a lot of different stuff and I guess you can say it paid off quite well. And recently I stopped being a album reviewer due to the lack of enough time but that too helped me discover so much new underrated music.
1986 was a good year in the SY era. EVOL came out and thank God :)
@artdecade1984 - I know how you feel. I use to think that I would have loved listening to SY in like 1988 when this song and Daydream Nation album came out. It's so beautiful.
Thanks a lot coolKYLEbeans. Appreciated. Mouthing is hard sometimes. I'm sure I forget some verse or chorus sometimes but hey, part of the fun game right? :)
Hi Pingui0987 - I play the chorus a bit different from you but yours might work just as well. I'm sure it does.
The intro riff is pretty simple. It's just two chords. The first is the two lowest strings on 5 to the lowest string only on 7 then back to the two on 5 and end up just playing the lowest four strings without chords. Look at the video at the same time and you should be able to do it fast. Keep it up!
Hi and thanks a lot matais1. Not sure it is genius work but for sure it's a genius song no doubt about that.
I might do some tabnote on this due to the request but I'm not sure when it's gonna be. Please have a little patience :) But it's not that hard really. Just get the right tuning, watch Thurston on live at Jools Holland maybe and just work on it :) You can do it.
@nvanliforp thank i got the song by video cool but in the corus i 12 14 13 14 then 15 12 before going to 5 and can yu xplain the riff again the one that came before the song butastef the spirit desire part
I guess there's a certain difference between electric and acoustic and Sonic 'tends' to violate their guitars :)
The GABDEG tuning is also the one I consider to be the hardest to sound right. But I usually start out the tuning really low and when all tunes are in place I slightly turn it up to the right tuning (so that the G is where the G actually should be) - it helps a lot to get the right tune from the album or song.
@nvanliforp because Sonic Youth does, and when I tune my acoustic to GABDEG it sounds like utter poo. How do you tune up on your acoustic guitar without popping them?
thank you - it's a really old school Yamaha western given to me by my father way back in the days, maybe 20 years I guess. But when it have new strings it just sounds like a million :)

do you turn the B-E stings UP or DOWN to E-G? I've tried tuning them down, but I can't get a halfway decent sound from it, so should I tune them up?

G (up), A (same), B (down), D (down), E (down), G (up)
Make any sense?
