Goddamn. He played some awesome licks. I love how he doesn't just stick to shitty Pentatonic cliche's like other blues rock players. That harpsichord-like lick was so spot-on. Dude is a god.
i think he's covering Warren Haynes cover of "just got paid today," he even throws in some of Gov't Mule's "Mule" as he breaks into the solo, awesome version though
just shutup and enjoy the great music if you dont like it leave. dont need to hear your comments. there is no such thing as the greatest guitar player. its all in the music so shut up and listen.
...if you have the opportunity to see this guy live within a two hundred miles...make the trip.....one of the few "younger" guys able to carry the torch.
He's got a lot of good energy but he's got a long ways to go to get on the same level that guys like Vai, Satriani, Johnson, etc. are on technically... I've seen guys playing in cover bands that are quite frankly, better. There's a reason he's not better known - he's good but the jury is out on whether he'll improve enough to be considered great. He just a little over 30 but I don't see him as having improved much from being a teen... sorry.
@spokesandfeet You fool. How can you say that? Bonamassa plays with emotion and feeling which sets him above nearly all players. He could play Hendrix note-for-note when he was about 6, are you willing to tell me that Hendrix was worse than Satriani? Listen to Woke up Dreaming by Bonamassa and then compare him to your favouriter shredders. He can play almost anything, but he chooses to play the most beautiful music of all: blues. Not only can he play well, he makes it sound amazing.
@spokesandfeet The guitar hero thing is a tall order. I pretty much learned a long time ago that I would never have super human technical ability, so I have worked toward developing a unique voice as a guitarist, singer, and writer. Ultimately, I believe it is about that and compositions above all else. And, in concurring with your statement, I think being an original (no matter how you do it) goes much further. Not only are Vai, Satriani, and Johnson technical studs, they have a voice, imho.
Joe is a most excellent player, but this tunes lacks the slide playing of the original. I love Joe....I go way back to Bloodline listening to him. However, I'd much rather hear Warren Haynes cover this tune. Warren plays killer slide and is a great lead player as well. Joe is shredding on the solos. Reminds me of metal solos. That "has" it's place. Just don't know about a ZZ Top tune??? Oh well...he is blazing.
@MUDSHARK111 You missed the point. Never said it had to match the original. Different is good, and that's what you want in a cover. Just the slide is very part of the dynamics of this song. That's all.
Good guitar but I was wondering, does this guy sell insurance as a side gig?Reminds me of my insurance guy with those Docker action slacks on.lol. I don't know,1st time ever checking him out,1st impression is a guy with some skills but I'm not sure he feels it enough as I think the real great ones and performances do.Not enough raw emotion. From what I've heard though he's had quite the child prodigy fairytale for guitarists.Maybe he's bored with it.He picked a cool "Top" song for sure!
@austingunsmoke I totally agree; he's obviously good, but I feel like there's something missing. When I try and compare him to SRV, Joe just doesn't stand up. I'm not sure if it's his chops, or if he just is kind of recycling the same old blues shtick; not that that's bad, it's just been done before, and done better. However, he is certainly making strides in a cool direction of blues with a twist, I just feel like he could bring more to the table. Maybe he will.
@yesfan157 Thanks for the agreement.Yeah, again,I know this guy is technically good and has got plenty of licks but this song requires some soul and fire that I'm just not getting here.......you know who I can't help him reminding me of this morning?lol, Jim Jones, the kool -aid guy!ha ha.I've been playing for about 30 years and I play this song nasty w/grit .That's the way it should be played.R U a Yes Fan?Steve Howe is scary and a great fit for their style.Happy Holidays.Merry x-mas.Laters!
@yesfan157 no offense but thats what everyone else is doing.... at leaast he has his own sound... which is just his influences. cant about that theres only 7 notes in the blues, 9 if ya wanna get crazy lol everyone plays the same lick...if they didnt, its a wrong lick and it probably sounds like ass
@winston67 Steve Vai? Paul Gilbert? Guthrie Govan? the List goes on and on....Joe's great don't get me wrong, but his technical ability isnt exactly top notch... but he does play some killer blues.
@CommBreakDown whenever people talk about the best guitarist they've ever seen I always want to mention Guthrie Govan. But truth be told there is no such thing as 'best' and these guys are all so different
@chrisjeffsmusic yes and no...their is such a thing as best. but your right everyone has their own idea of music. and yea guthrie is my #5. of a very looooong list of players. which includes non-guitar players as well.
@CommBreakDown I see music as something extremely subjective, like any other form of art, tbh there can be no best, or worst. Although people naturally say there is sometimes
Thanks for the clip. I just saw him about 2 weeks ago in Bend, Oregon. He had quite an arsenal of guitars and used his flying V for an encore of Just got paid/ Dazed and confused. First time I saw the Flying V on his youtube videos.
@youneedmorecowbell i feel the same way! i had a freind turn me on to him recently, and i was absolutely speechless when i heard him play! still, i am constantly AMAZED, EVERY time i listen to him!!
he is rock ROYALTY!!!!!

He may not play the stuff, but Joe Bonamassa is metal as f**k! >:(
I'm not a guitarist myself, but I don't need to be to know that is near unmatchable skill.
Can't wait to see him next month >,<
