oh, one more thing, make sure the thread on the bobbin is going in the right direction., the thread should be coming off of the bobbin spool counterclockwise.
oh my, I don't know whether you have a front load or top load bobbin but in either case you have to make sure you get the thread to wind through the tension rods, then leave a 3-4" tail. I recommend you get someone over to help you or take your machine to a local sewing shop and ask for help. It's really hard to diagnose or tell you how to do this over the internet. I would need to see your machine to help. sorry I can't be of help to you!
my husband got it for me and we were reading thta you need to clean it so he dismanteled it gears and all lol well we had to take it to a specialist and i just never tried it again but thought i would give it a shot again i dont think that i have it incerted right and cant find anything showing me exactly what to do
I like both. If you had a prob with top load it may be that the machine timing was lousy because it was so cheap. I have a Viking that is top load and it works great. I also had a Pfaff front load and it worked great but both of these were nice quality... not the top of the line but mid to top line range. I don't know which is "best".. probably what you start out with because it is what you know best. Quality of machine is key.
Trish, is there any advantage to a top load vs. a front load bobbin. I bought a cheap sewing machine with a top load bobbin, and it keeps jamming. So I then bought a good Singer machine with a front load bobbin and it works much more reliably, though it's more complex to set up. Your thoughts?
1 minute ago hi your video is very informative, buti have a problem i cant solve, and cant find here..my machine just does not pull the thread up from the bobbin, its like the needle is too short..s o i cant sew .i have a&r classic , i think it was made by toyota. i was wondering if u could help or advise please ?
Well, I am horrible at this... I would wind it on the bobbin by hand the same way you do when you load extra heavy thread for bobbin work. I suspect you have to bypass the tension rod in the slot so you don't stretch the elastic as you sew, though. I would go to Threads Magazine and see if there is something there to help answer your question. Sorry I can't help more than this!
Finally someone with a Viking machine! Thank you so much, all the bobbin help videos are usually done with front load machines and I just like this video in generall, very clear picture and clear instructions. Thanks again! :)

No fun. pull the thread out about 1-2 inches from where it broke. Pull the bobbin thread up from the bottom. Now start where you just pulled up the old bobbin thread and make sure you pull the bobbin thread up one stitch away from the old stitching and then stitch on. It's really not fun. Use a high grade thread in the top if you can. Don't move so fast when sewing that you stress and break the thread. Hope this helps.
i just got a sewing machine for christmas and tried to start out today. i thought i threaded everything correctly but when i started to sew something it all went terribly wrong. i turned the fabric over and it was just a mess and tangle of thread and knots. I have no clue where I went wrong- the bobbin threading?
1st check that you threaded your top correctly and that the thread is going through the uptake lever (the part that pulls the thread on top through the tension rods). Then make sure (this is probably the problem) that you put your presser foot DOWN before you sew. If you don't do that the top thread will not have any tension and will goober up under your fabric. Let me know if these don't help.
thanks ever so much! i had the bobbin in the wrong way, and it worked a lot better but once i did what you said (about the presser foot being down) it worked perfectly. thank you!
I looked up this one and was amazed again. Bobbin work is something I am really afraid of. I got rid of my old machine to get new one with top loading and I refuse to change it. I guess I will buy another bobbin case to try this. But first I will practice bobbin bypass.
If you have broken your bobbin cover you will need to contact a store that sell your brand of sewing machine. Ask them to order another one for you. Don't do without one. It's not a good idea to leave that area open when you are sewing.
type in allbrands and you can give the people your serial number and they will find the right part for you. if they dont have it keep searching. I had a guy find out if I had a low or high shank machine just by the serial number. I had a 30 yr old machine I had been saving. but find that cover.
Thanks for having these videos. They're so helpful! I'm so glad that you make these.
I have a top load machine and it's pretty old. I tried loading the bobbing the tension lever side. ( I can't find the bypass) so it's not seeming to pick up the bobbin thread when the needle goes through. I made it work ONCE and then i tried to redo it to get practice and it's not working...
I wish I could see what you are doing. If you don't put your thread through the tension rods your top thread should loop around and pick up the bobbin thread anyway. But it can be really "bubbly"... not a tight stitch. You'll have to play with it.
I have been practing doing bobbin work, however I found the by pass slot, however the bobbin pops outs and makes a big knot if it doesn't go throungh the tension slot while stitching.according to the company they suggest by passing the slot. Brother machine.
Okay, it really is a testing process. All machines are a little different. I found on one of my machines I cannot bypass the slot because I end up with too much bobbin thread and it bobbles. So I think you are just going to have to play. Try the thread in the opposite direction or loosen the tension and run it through the tension rods or both.
one more question what is the name of the sewing with front load bobbin. maybe i can buy it on sale. it looks like it may be friendly for free motion as well.
Sorry for taking so long to get back. I travel and teach nationally. There are a lot of machines that front load. I do like them for bobbin work but each one is different so you will have to play with your machine to see what works best. Even 2 machines that are the same may react differently. Something about the way you hold your tongue I think. Ha. I love Pfaff and I love the Husqvarna sewing machines. Bernina is good, too, but I get irritated at the prices for the accessories being high
thanks Trish, going to the dealer doesn't help because they show you the general threading instructions. My system doesn't work with a by pass method. I am do wider airer stitches.I beleieve the plaff or Berdina has a better feeder. I tried another technique using a double thread on the top through the needle. aslo I am buying a embroidery design that has bobbin work. I will let you know how that turns out. do you have a business with threads? Sandra
Some machines have an adjustment that lets you put more or less pressure on the presser foot... I think that is what you are talking about. The foot that you lower when you sew, right? Look in you instruction book to see if you can adjust your presser foot or talk to your local dealer.
Thanks Trish for this video. I thank you again. I manage to loosen the bobbin and tighten the tension. However, my machine doesn't work well with the by pass part. the bobbin jumps up. Am I doing something wrong. Is your machine better equiped for bobbin work.Plaff. I have a brother ULt20003 embroidery combo. You explain so well. you must be a teacher. Or maybe you teach at college for textures.
Hmm..I think you will have to try turning your bobbin upside down so the thread is coming out og it in the other direction. If that doesn't work you may not be able to bypass... ask your dealer... sometimes they have tricks for their brand of machines. Good luck! Trish
Nina, you really DO have a bobbin case... I'll see if I can do a quick video and maybe you will be able to understand it better if I leave the case in the machine. Do you have anyone close, like a store that can show you in person? Trish
Thanks! I just watched your singer bobbin instruction video and it's a good one. I'll be adding more vids shortly. This is a wonderful way to share, isn't it? Trish

are there replacements for the plastic bobbin cover? or does the sewer need to go without one if it breaks or gets lost?

Try winding your thread on the bobbin in the opposite direction. That should help with the jumping out issue.

Look, I have a singer machine.
So, I don't have a bobbin case.
How do I insert the bobbin thread through all those little hooks.
Where do I put the bobbin thread through?
Help me please.
