I love that BD tried to re-invent the ascenders jamming mechanism, and they are a lovely piece of kit unfortunatly they have a nasty habit of occasional not grabing the line when used in a certain way due to its unique grabbing action, something that the more simple ascenders never do.
Illustration 12 in the instructions does show the locking carabiner going around the rope, which is a matter of preference. The important thing to note is the locking carabiner needs to go through the security hole on the top of the ascender to ensure that the rope cannot come out of the ascender. Illustration 13 shows the biner through the hole but not holding the rope in the ascender.
I'm no expert, but doesn't the manual that comes with the ascenders say NOT to put the top locking biner on like it is portrayed in the video, whether it be traversing or following a diagonal line? You are supposed to clip the biner into the top hole AND around the rope...
