In the first explosion you can see shrapnel hit the side of the hill. If this was filmed at 30fps and that hill is 10m from the explosion, since it takes about a frame for the fragments to travel the 10m, they were travelling in excess of 300m/s (671mph for the English folks) - nearly the speed of sound!
@kvareran Has the switch to paper tubes resulted in decreased performance? I imagine that the steel containment helps direct the blast vertically and might help to increase the velocity of the jet. It would also be cool if you made one without the cone as a control experiment.

@zhmapper used a stainless steel cylinder in the first one. Have since used paper cylinder because of this flying fragments. They scared me (-_-)
