  • Fantastic!! The dude singing bass is class as well

  • What a man he made it look so easy!

  • Fantastic. Thank you so much. Always loved Dean's voice

  • A true classic, Brilliant!

  • @martinbond1993 Absolutly, even I would find a reason to listen radio once in a while then, altough I think they would reject it.

  • Matt Monro was fantastic best uk crooner ever

  • Does anyone know what words the backing singers are singing ? I know the "Sweet sweet, you can't beat the memories " bit,its the other background vocals I don't know.I'm going to try singing it with some pals.

  • @myepiphone - this is what they're singing at the bridge:

I was a rover, but now it's over

It was a happy day when you came my way

  • @1doublewide Many thanks for your help.

  • They should play songs like this on the regular radio stations once in a while. Just one or two a day, to get people wondering who that great voice is. Maybe then, there is still hope for mainstream music listeners...

  • @martinbond1993 I heard this song on radio a few months ago and really did think "what a great voice! who is he?" Great singer, great song, really enjoy listening to it.

  • @martinbond1993 - Here in the Dallas, TX area, these songs are played daily on KAAM 770 AM. Here is a link to their website and you can listen to them live on your computer. XSince the fine folks at youtube won't let me post the actual link, just google kaamradio770

  • Matt Monroe? Never heard of him

  • @GlynusRoach lmao! ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @113jsbach Thanks for the excellent information. I admit I had never heard of matt monro, but neither had anyone else. After listening to a couple of tracks though (change the world is my favourite), I realise also that he is in fact better than Sinatra and dean Martin. You were dead right 123jsbach

  • @GlynusRoach lol! you do realise that 113jsbach is sitting with this wonderful information feeling rather bewildered?! im away to improve my knowledge of matt monrow. have you heard of him? i hear he is worth a listen.

  • Has no one heard of matt monro?? He sold over 100 million records!

  • @GlynusRoach I can’t believe that you have never heard of matt monroe!!!! Call yourself a music lover?monroe joined the army at 17, stayed for 12 years, after which he sang in clubs and drove buses and became known as the singing bus driver, made a demo in glasgow which eventually found its way to decca, and hey presto a star was born.

  • @GlynusRoach . monroe sang for britain in the eurovision song contest with "i love the little things".his most famous songs are perhaps "walk away" and "born free".he enjoyed considerable success in America and worked with many big wigs, including Quincy Jones. if you need any further help in your quest to learn about monroe let me know.

  • Well check out all I could and guess I may be wrong and this is it.....The backing is the backing and the whole thing is a masterpiece either way and it is one of the most favourites of mine. I had the CD given to me as a present with this track and I was so pleased. But you can hear for your self how beautiful and fantastic this track really is...I am sure you will agree.

  • That monro is not better than Sinatra, and maybe even dean Martin?

  • @123jsbach. Heavens above, americans are thick! Firstly they think it was me who said the song makes me sad!!!????? (bit of my own medicine there!). Secondly, they don't know who matt Monro is!! Thick sods! Just so you yanks know, he sang from Russia with love (surely I don't need to explain?) This is the life, Born free (title song from film), on days like these (from the Italian job), change the world, among many others. Listen to one or all of these and tell me

  • @GlynusRoach eh...........i had a dreadful night last night with one thing or another, and i have to admit i had been on the pickled onions since midday (well it is new year and a time for indulgence) and it made me sad. its funny you bore the brunt of it tho! i am a sucker for sinatra. i dont believe i am that well educated in the realms of matt monro.....i think that he will be my next project. thanks for making me laugh! ;)

  • ERRATUM: Should read This is not the best version though

  • This is so fabulous.....one of my very favourite. This is not the best version thought. The backing is too insipid....You will see my comments on the version that is best if I find it...smiles

  • DaronWood you moron === there is no one to compare with and nothing like the sight of Frank Sinatra singing New York New York in a tuxedo in front of 80,000 people. You and Glynus ought to get married. Husband and Wife President/Vice President of The Moron's Club.

  • @Michael93406 With you as Maid Of Honour. If it was the just the sight of Frank Sinatra in his Tux and bad wig in front of 80,000 people, I would not have a problem. Just as long as he didn't sing.

PS...You DON'T know Matt Munro, and you're calling ME a moron...? Am I the only one that finds that irony totally hilarious!!!!

Is "moron" the only word you know? Here are a few others...addlepate, dolt, dunce, fool, halfwit, idiot, ignoramus, imbecile, mental defective, simpleton.

  • and who the hell is Matt Monroe?

  • @Michael93406

    ROTFLMF'inAO!!!!!!

  • Hey Glynus -- this song is about good memories and what they are made of. And this is Dean Martin --- one of the greats --- Matt Helm -- one of the rat Pack and a star of the original Ocean's Eleven. What are you sad about??????????????????????????????

  • Matt Monroe was the ultimate singer though

  • @GlynusRoach this song sucks it makes me sad :(

  • @DaronWoodward. I agree with most of your comments, but wouldn't say it quite as strong as you! Dean Martin was superb, Sinatra was only OK.

  • Talented talented grease ball.

  • B&Q brought me here... o.O

  • Why the hell was tht useless Sinatra so damned famous? Compared to Dino he was utter crap. Just listen to that smooth voice, just sheer class.

Sinatra was only famous beause of his 'connections' and for no other reason, because it certainly was NOT because of his voice.

  • @DaronWoodward don't be fucking stupid, both Martin and Sinatra were tremendously talented and each deserved of their fame. Saying that Sinatra did not have a good voice and relied solely on his connections is so fucking ignorant, you should learn to appreciate true artistry as you are clearly too ignorant to.

  • @ryandeceptacon

If you wanted someone who could not hold a note, had no passion or sway in his tone, pulverised every single song as if it were a funeral dirge and utterly massacred every piece of music put in front of him....Sinatra was perfect.

Oh I appreciate true artistry just fine. Sinatra was not it.

I can help you with some of the longer words.

  • Always loved old Dean. I used to imitate him a lot when I was a young'un...

  • Love old Dean. I used to imitate him a lot when I was a young'un.

  • Now's a great time to buy a new bathroom...

  • BACK IN THE DAYS WHEN MUSIC WAS MUSIC. THREE GUITARS, A BASS, SMOOTH HARMONTIES, A REAL SINGER. MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS!!!!

  • 30 poor people without memories!!!

  • <3

  • love you Dee

  • Love his voice.

  • One love, two life's ,,,,

  • LOL They are showing a tv advert here in the UK with this as a backing song Its for kitchens.

  • Back when artists live performances actually sounded like their albums.

  • this was number one on my birthday

  • this was sung the year I was born its great

  • im not even borne yet and i think dino is the best

  • Is there a better voice than Dean Martin's? I'm not sure. I don't think so.

  • The great Dean Martin...one of the best at making us feel good and keeping us smiling..what a talent..RIP Dino

  • This is so great, thanks! Check out the books "Dino: Living High in the Dirty Business of Dreams" by Nick Tosches, and "Dean and Me: A Love Story" by Jerry Lewis.

  • I'm going to audition for American Idol because I can perfectly match dean martin. I have sang publicly a few times singing his songs

  • There will never be another Dean Martin. Saw him live in Vegas. Long live Matt Helm ^

  • Lass mich Dir ein Lächeln schenken ,

zum Dank für Deine wunderbare Freundschaft !

    Einen Tollen Sonnigen 1, Advent

    ,,,Merci,,,

    Namaste

  • Absolutely love this!

  • Dean Martin was a man's man. Classy and sexy with a sense of humor. And a voice to boot!

  • Time machine please!

  • I love this song, which was released when I was 15. What a voice. If I had three wishes they would all be to sing like Dean. Thanks again.

  • This has been my favorite Martin tune ever since I found a 78rpm copy on New Zealand Capital while in New Zealand in '03. Sound great on my Victor VI.

  • In response to LoveBugForNickXO: For a 19 year old I must say your love of Dean Martin and his music is not typical. I am so happy to hear this "real music" is being passed down to a younger genertion. I grew up with this and till this day can't get enough. I am passing it down to my grandchildren and hopefully they will appreciate it as they grow. Keep listening to DM

  • This must be my all time favorite song. What a rendition ! Dean Martin accompanied by Terry Gylkison & the Easy Riders. They were an awesome folk group in the fifties. Unfortunately little coverage on clips of this group.

  • bydewaye why ppl dont like sammy davis but frank and this guy? HE IS NATURALL TALENTED OUT OF ALL OKAY PPL. STOP BEING SO RACIST...FUCK

  • iam black and i love this song, fuck jay z,kane, lil wayne.all they do is dissing our christ..reminder for all open ur eyes this world is going insane.

  • It is great to read comments from you young people, I am 72 years old and I love all music, but I just can't pick out a tune from the modern stuff.

  • Going back to my childhood heard this on the old valve radio just not forgot it never seen the video of dean

  • This, and "Lucky Lady Bug" were of my earliest Musical Memories (I was born tail-end of '51). I knew that this song wasn't 'meant' for my generation but I kind'a liked the beat & the 'ctazy' singer! :))

  • People are going to look at you fuinny coz u like this LoveBug? Rap? Hip hop? No thanks....Dean Martin of part of the Golden Age of music.

  • I want this song to be my 19th birthday gift

  • Try to keep up with the backing singers - bet you can't! Fiendishly tricky arrangement which sounds so simple but isn't.

  • I'm two and I enjoy this music.

  • Wow, :)

  • I like Johnny Cashs version better.

  • @edwardLRS cool story bro :)

  • @sgtgreenthumb s'true

  • In class i mentioned dean martin. Nobody understood. I classified with frank sinatra. My teacher asked if i considered calling the exterminator. That made my day

  • The good thing about liking all kinds of music... I like everything from sinatra to the black dahlia murder!

  • Dean Martin>Katy perry

    Frank Sinatra>kesha

    Tony Bennett>lady gaga.

this is REAL music. It has actual meaning behind the lyrics. These songs have stories behind them. I would rather listen to this, then some over-edited pop song they over-play these days.

    my age? 14.

  • I'm 24 years old, and grew up on the Rat Pack. And this is my favorite song of all time. I get shit for it all the time, but I don't care. It's awesome.

  • Does it really matter how old you are? just listen and enjoy the god damn music :D

  • @Nuthy05 Couldn't agree more! Way to go, buddy :)

  • the guitars and backing in this is great

    phil

  • Dean Martin is AMAZING!!

  • Does anyone know the names of the guitarists in this video? Thanks.

  • I meen that my father sings this song just for fun

  • I´m 56, and I know that my sings this song most, and the generation of the 1925 born loved it all.And my father told to me about this old songs. In Germany a Singer named Freddy sang in German.

  • since we're all sayin our age's. I'm 24 huge fan of this genre of music. always have been, there is just such class to it!

  • My favorite Dean Martin song. I was 9 years old when this was a hit and I just loved it. I thought it was the perfect arrangement and perfect performer for this great song composed by Gilkyson, Dehr, and Miller who also composed such hits as Marianne and Greenfields. It just doesn't get any better than this.

  • 19 years! I am 62, so Martin and Sinatra will never die

  • I love all of his songs and I have listened to them for the past 13,487 days 22 hours 00 secondsalso all of frank Sinatra songs that I can sing each and every song and sound just like the both of them as if they are still living and singing today

  • This is great, just like most everything he sang!

  • Soo frickin' good!!!

  • I'm 1 day old and I prefer this music over being convicted of bank robbery.

  • @NaviLight well no shit thats a no brainer lol who would wanna be convicted for that? haha

  • Im 19 and i love dean martin and Frank Sinatra! This should be played more, not that techno, pop, and all of those other disgraces of music. this right here is where music rules all !

  • I am 3 weeks old and I love Dean Martin

  • I'm 18, I listen to all kinds of music but the 50s definitely had the best music

  • Simply The best .

  • Comment removed

  • who do yall think is better rat pack or beatles?

  • This is one of my favourite songs to do at weddings.

  • 29 years old and have been listening to stuff like this for ages...

  • @chris185821 .....If you don't care ,why the aggresive comment .

...Could be you'r an idiot with no sense of balance .

...I hope not .Please think about the negativity you wrote .

...Are they wrong ,and you right ,or is it to each his own .

  • hi i'm 50 and thanks new generation coz i love my blues and rock and roll ...but this stuff rocks too

  • I love Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, I love all the singers from this era

  • c'est très beau

  • i agree

  • Ahh my daily dose of Dino.

  • Oh yes.... Dean is the best !! :)

  • Why does this recording "jar" my speakers. I really shouldn't complain, they were free.

  • Godsent lyrics. With his blessings from above. Serve it generously with love. One man, one wife, one love for life. Memories are made of this.

  • The Hudsocker Proxy. Favorite moment.

  • Love this video...thanks for posting...

  • HEY GUYS WHO IS THE BACKING GROUP

    THANKS PHIL

  • @yogamantra

The group backing was The Easy Riders backed by The Easy Riders, led by Terry Gikyson, (who consisted of Gilkyson, Rich Dehr, and Frank Miller. Terry was also the writer of Greenfields and was later successfully wrote music for films. Terry's daughter Eliza is a signer/song writer in the folk/Americana tradition.

  • Okay I'm 19 and I love Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and I know people are probably gonna look at me like I have 5 freakin' heads but this music is better than some of the crap we listen to today!

  • @LoveBugForNickXO

    Cus it is probably? :)

  • @LoveBugForNickXO dude, im 16 and i feel the same way

  • @LoveBugForNickXO The typical response, and somewhat wrong because these days we have people like Josh Groban, Leon Jackson, and Michael Buble(who, incidentally, sings a few of Dean's songs). It's the mainstream music that's not so good. This music will last because people are still listening to it long after the musicians or artists or singers have gone. I am 16 years old and I love all classical music, as well as the music like Dean and Frank. Who'll listen to today's music in the future?

  • I agree with you 100 % that is music

  • @LoveBugForNickXO completely agree with you im seventeen and i enjoy listening to tunes by the legends like sinatra, dean martin, and sammy =]

  • @LoveBugForNickXO Congratulations. I'm 13 and have been listening to this since the moment I was born.

  • @LoveBugForNickXO

Okay I'm 12 and my favorite artists are Dean Martin,Louis Armstrong,Ink Spots,Marty Robbins and Ray Charles. And I don't this is strange

  • @LoveBugForNickXO Who in the **** cares what other people think of us!? America was built on individualism! Stand up to peer-group pressure! \m/

    p.s. I'm 19, too.

  • @LoveBugForNickXO More like this music is better than all of the crap we listen to today ;-).

  • @LoveBugForNickXO sweetie it doesn't matter how old are you ... it's just a matter of taste, and I happen to think it's wonderful that you're able to appreciate this music all these years later :)

  • @LoveBugForNickXO I totally agree with you ! I mean, I'm only 17, but music from the 50s trumps modern music any day in my book (:

  • @LoveBugForNickXO Five heads, and a perfectly good pair of ears on each of them in order to appreciate this!

  • Nope...just shows you have class and understading

  • @LoveBugForNickXO

    You Know it kid....!!!

  • he always made everything so easy ..just like Nat King Cole

  • Okay normally i listen to Deathcore, but this guy is right up there with asking alexandria

  • Memories, indeed. Love this video- thanks for posting!

  • Dean was a lovely singer, my effort above, in his memory. from a Karaoke eve. ~ Arthur

  • elvis,s alltime favorite song,it set him on the path

his whole career was an atempt to match it

  • Hard to top any of the other comments, but Dean Martin was a great talent. Love his voice, and LOVE the arrangement of this song. As I recall, the single was a bit faster tempo, but it's great to see him do this live. Dean Martin was a great singer, great commedian -- wayyyy better than Jerry Lewis, to me -- and a pretty fair actor, too. Like other guys and gals from his generation, you were expected to be a triple-threat, and he was.

  • No - I am not that old.... love this though!! Savor your life....

  • Mr. Cool himself. Awesome!

  • He was so funny in addition to being such a great singer-- who COULDN'T be entertained watching him? Memories ARE made of this!

  • I'm 14 but I love this type of music!

  • He makes my panties wet !!!!

  • @wrtw100 bit too much info there luv

  • Comment removed

  • I love the oldies. My parents listen to them all the time!

  • Ugh, I simply love Dean! He was amazing, always so cool and relaxed.

  • cool=dino

  • does any one know what theB side of this record was?

  • classic

  • 22 people don't have a memory

  • clasic

  • Dean wasn't just a great actor and crooner, but he was a true entertainer. He was a comedian, a dancer, an actor and a singer. We don't have anyone like that anymore.

  • @FarNorthGamer And THE template for generations of alcoholics ever since :D

  • @adamtzsch He was a successful, charismatic man. I don't think that alcoholics after him used him as a template...

  • @adamtzsch Ha ha, good one :)

  • @adamtzsch RUMORVILLE!! The booze was a prop. It wasn't even booze in his glass on the show.; Do some research.

  • not my childhood - but wish it was

  • Has to be one of the greatest performers of all time , 100% excellent ***** 5 star

  • im 18 n i love dean martin and frank sinatra wish we had real music like this today

  • @nikideeNjimdee you know this - movies are going the same way

  • When people sang about loving each other, instead of killing each other

  • wonderful voice,lovely music

and i love the backing vocals!

  • World's largest gummy worm is in suggested videos???

  • I see Martin in Rome, a gigolo seducing middle-aged American women with far less taste than desperation for sex.

  • This is for you Tony ,such memories .

  • who are the background singers?

  • @jkoncz 'The Easy Riders'. Nothing to do with Peter Fonda!

  • @CinnAlla thanks!!
