@usagora You condescending offensive plonker, I am not missing the point, your point is just so ignorant that I'm amazed anyone could try and make it.
The cyclist isn't doing anything other than using the road. There's no way if he pulled to the right that anyone could safely overtake him.
He isn't refusing anyone the right to use the road. Only in the tiny mind of your average ignorant motorist could anyone ever believe that the roads are their right of way, and to hell with everyone else.
@PeowPeowPeowLasers If I was the bike I'd have slowed down to let the car pass before the corner, or sped up through it. Too many people would try to pass IN the corner.
@PeowPeowPeowLasers Nobody has any more right than anyone else to the road... BUT Newton trumps everything else. As a motorbike commuter I know that I am completely vulnerable to stupid cagers. So to account for this I stay out of their way and never put myself in a situation where I am trusting the car to do the right thing. This is self preservation. No good being right if you're dead.
The numpty on the bicycle in this video hasn't learned that lesson yet.
@usagora What about the massive amount of time lost to me when I'm required to drive my car, and encounter a traffic jam caused by thousands of commuting motorists who could easily make their commute by bicycle? Are you going to whinge and complain about those people, or just the odd cyclist who's a bit slow?
I have never, in my 20 years of driving, been delayed by cyclists. Ever. They are as much a part of the road as traffic lights or busy junctions. If you don't like it, get the bus.
@PeowPeowPeowLasers Have you encountered a cyclist weaving slowly in a blind 55mph corner?
Don't forget this is America. Petrol is cheap and people live further away from work. I commute 60 miles per day. At an average of 15mph I would spend 4 hours per day commuting.
@Scruit I never drive so quickly I can't stop in the distance I can see to be clear ahead, and have therefore never had a problem with any hazard I encounter.
Golden rule of driving. Anyone who can't deal with a cyclist in the road shouldn't be driving, full stop.
You have my sincere condolences. Being forced to slow for about ten seconds must have been one of the most awful experiences of your life. Actually getting to the cake shop ten seconds later than you normally would have must have been quite traumatic.
Cyclist should NOT go to the very edge of the road! Thats where road debris is and lessens your options! That said, this dude did weave a bit much, speed doesn't matter, he may have been on a leisure ride but It could have easily been someone else climbing a steep incline which means grinding up slowly and getting tired. Share the road, wait until its safe and pass. Cyclist have EVERY right to use the road and occupy a lane to preserver their safety. Admittedly this guy was testing the limits.
@gurney85 I did slow, and I did wait to pass. It's a flat road. If I was the cyclist (I used to commute to work on a bicycle when I lived closer) I would have sped up arpund the corner or slwed and waved him past. I hate to have cars behind me that slow.

I gave up riding my bike when I got my license 30 years ago. Maybe bicycle riders can't afford gas for their cars. I do know this, if I rode a bike, there's no way I'd ride it on the road where I could get hit by a car.
You sit there and just accept the fact that he is a dickhead? How about opening your window and telling the cunt to get the fuck off the road? Do something, otherwise you're just letting it happen.
This road doesn't appear to be very wide. On a straightaway, with him riding ~6 inches from the right side, could you have passed him safely (leaving at least a foot clearance) without going into the oncoming lane? If not, then I don't see what the problem is here. You're approaching a blind corner; there is slower moving traffic ahead of you that, no matter what it does, will require you to move at least partly into the oncoming lane in order to safely pass. So you wait. No?
@tibbsa If he rode at the right edge of the road I would have been able to get past without crossing the yellow lines. I ride too, so I know how much space I like cars to leave me.
You would not have been able to pass safely if he was on the edge of the road, the road is too narrow. He was going a bit slow, but that is beside the point. 2 points here, if you want him out of the way argue for a decent cycle lane. Point 2 the days of cheap oil are over, you might be on a bike sooner then you think.
@tibbsa If I was the rider, given his speed, I would have slowed and maybe even stopped. I don't want to be in a blind corner on a 55mph road at the same time as two cars.
Having said that, I wouldn't be riding in a weaving pattern at walking speed on a 55mph road. On this road I'd be keeping up at least a good 15mph.
@Scruit was there a strong headwind? when i ride on narrow roads i stay in the middle of the lane if i dont see oncoming traffic, and if i see oncoming traffic i get as far to the right as I can. I average 25 mph though so drivers mostly don't seems to mind!
@tibbsa At least a foot of clearance? Eeek!!!!! Cars passing me with a foot of clearance get uploaded to youtube and reported to the police.
The driver in this clip did OK, going in the next lane to pass after the blind corner. I didn't see anything wrong with the cyclist's riding. It's normal for bikes to wobble as that's how bikes balance, though this one is wobbling a bit more than usual.
@CyclingMikey I used to ride to work when I lived closer (20 mile round trip instead of 60) so I know a thing or two about riding a bicycle on the road. I also know first-hand that the hood of a car is not a comfortable place to be. :-(
Like I've said in other responses - if I was the cyclist in this clip then I would have either sped up around the corner or slowed down early and waved the car past because too many impatient cars would try to pass me IN the corner. Don't share the corner.
@Scruit It seems to me that what you're really saying is that you wish the cyclist wasn't holding you up. He's a valid road user, and not doing anything wrong, and I don't see what there is to complain about. Your driving was fine, IMO.
the hell with them all. by me they will turn left on red and not stop at anything. should be the same rules as a car. cant wait til the government starts ticketing bikers
Be glad you don't live in Portland! Make it around that one, there's ten more up ahead, and almost ALL of them flaunt their sense of 'entitlement' to the roads.
When I was riding my bike on the road I always rode farthest to the right that I could. Since my accident back in 1998 I mostly ride in the local parks.
Yeah, middle of road + going really slow even for a bike + no helmet = idiot. I always make sure I'm far enough over so that cars can safely pass me. Also, I try to avoid roads that have no side berm, especially if they are 55 mph. And, of course, I always wear a helmet. Some cyclists don't seem to understand the value of those. I know personally because it prevented me from cracking my skull open (instead I just had a minor headache) back when I first started riding a bike.
@usagora I thought the weave was was like a "Scottish Wino" than a "Pacific Boardwalk".
