Discovered Ron Raines on a Rodgers and Hart documentary on British TV last night, what a super voice, terrific! Ordered some of his cds today, cant wait to get them, wish this concert '' An evening with the Pops'' was available on dvd, think Rebecca Luker is great too, got cds of hers, and for anyone enjoying him, do listen to Brian Stokes Mitchell, fellow American, fabulous voice again, thank you for uploading this video.
@indyandnorbert I do not suppose you have a recording of that Rodgers and Hart documentary which you could share do you? I recorded it, then found that my reception of BBC4 was playing up that night (as sometimes happens) and the recording was ruined. I was furious! If you have it or know where it is obtainable, I would love to hear about it.
This is my favorite song of all, by a mile, and this is one of the best versions that I've ever heard. Besides Ron Raines having a marvelous voice, they wisely kept the original tempo of the song. I hate all the jazz versions. They are so sluggish that you want to give the singer (yes, that includes Ella and even my boy Johnny Mathis, whom I adore) or the band leader a spoonful of Geritol- remember? For tired blood! Anyway, this version is great.
I had the good fortune of working with Ron and also got to know him -- a great person through and through. Here, in abundance, is his immeasurable talent on display. Unfortunately, there just isn't enough in the theater world for him to be in. He knows how to act and the boy can sing. (And what a sense of humor!!! He should be on Broadway every night.
Refreshing. Powerful all that good stuff

I agree...my favourite song by far. So many people have done great work on this theme...instrumentally..probably Art Tatum's version is the best.

CLassic Show tune! It is so important how the singer tells the story -- not just that they sing the song well. Very nicely told and sung.
