I honestly think that charizard deserves to be called the #1 pokemon. I mean besides being just an amazing looking pokemon, he's also had one of the most touching stories with ashe. I mean any episode he was in was one you couldn't help but remember. Ashe's charizard was, and always will be, totally fricken awesome.

And Btw, now you mention it, Zekrom (who for some reason is in the top 10) and Rayquaza are the only Pokemon not from gen 1 or 2 in the top 10. I guess you're right that most people chose based on nostalgy and memories... Shame, some new Pokemon rock as hell

Charizard has a long history of being a Badass, at least in the series.

It's also still one of the best evolved starter Pokemon.

Why not complain about Blastoise, if you are going to complain? I don't know of any media where Blastoise was even able to take out a legendary, never mind go toe-to-toe or defeat one.
