But, you are (in this style) supposed to use your thumb to make the e string into various different root notes, he uses his thumb so he can slap e string and keep it in different keys... I dunno it seems logical, i haven't learned any of his stuff yet :P.
Its a Music Man Bass ya tard.........originally developed and made by Leo Fender, he also developed the G&L basses, not to mention his P and J style basses, pure genius
Actually, his fretting hand technique is far from orthodox. He makes it work, but be careful copying this.
Notice, in particular, his warning about tearing up the webbing of your fingers (between thumb and forefinger) on roto-sounds. You're more likely to have a callus on the underside of your left forefinger than on the webbing of your thumb . . .
No, not really. When you start playing slap, you will, but eventually you get used to the feel for it and you start to know how much they can handle. And how hard you can play without breaking them. Though, it will lessen the "life" of your strings by a lot. You'll be able to tell by the sound.

yeah. that's the regular way. but that's just the way he learned. I suppose it's better off to learn it the right way though.
fryBASS 3 years ago
believe me, its easier with the thumb. There is no "right way."

recon437 4 years ago
Actually is the pop that usually does it, not the slap, and the way he pulls on those strings I reckon he would bust quite a few.
I did a quick search and found a solo of his where he did bust a G.
