However we all know that Christianity has without a doubt caused evil to occur . ex. the crusades So I know that religion can cause evil but we cannot forget that fact that even though humans are evil we all have the capacity for good also.
I think the situation is clear... the state should not under any circumstances get involved in religious practices except to teach about religious beliefs and non-beliefs as a subject... if you like the bible as literature.
If people want to setup private schools which are faith based they should be allowed to do so, but they should also be monitored to make sure that all the same education in public schools is afforded to them.

The Muslim girl says she wears the hijab because she wants to and that it's not forced on her. So if wearing a hijab is so great how come none else does it so ritually outside of Islam? Speaking of free choice, what would happen if she still wanted to be Muslim, but she decided that she didn't want to wear a hijab?

When confronted with the ex-muslim woman's story about a 16 yr old girl being killed, in what I assume was most likely performed as what is called an honor killing, the muslim gentleman there COULD have said "wow, that's an awful thing to hear". Faith Schools can be damaging because of the teachers. Here's a quote from an open catholic school in my city in Ontario, Canada. This was in response to a student in my grade 8 class asking the teacher what a person should do if they are gay. "IF YOU ARE GAY YOU HAVE TO MARRY A WOMAN AND HAVE CHILDREN LIKE EVERYONE ELSE OR YOU WILL GO TO HELL". Spit flying everywhere, raging eyes. I think the situation is clear... the state should not under any circumstances get involved in religious practices except to teach about religious beliefs and non-beliefs as a subject... if you like the bible as literature.
If people want to setup private schools which are faith based they should be allowed to do so, but they should also be monitored to make sure that all the same education in public schools is afforded to them.
And the UK IS A SECULAR SOCIETY.

The Muslim girl says she wears the hijab because she wants to and that it's not forced on her. So if wearing a hijab is so great how come none else does it so ritually outside of Islam? Speaking of free choice, what would happen if she still wanted to be Muslim, but she decided that she didn't want to wear a hijab?
She'd ultimately have to confirm that there are other Muslims who'd look down on her and try to impose it on her or that she herself can't reconcile with that choice.

Was this his response? Believe me, science, at least as an educational system, is much more restrcitive and intolerant than any religion. Any system designed and administered by people like Richard Dawkins is nothing more than intellectual police brutality.

@twombonu Oh hardly. the point of science is to ask questions. If this were not so, we would still think that the earth was the center of the solar system and that bleeding people is the best way to cure insanity. If you have a question in a science class, you ask them. Any proper scientist or professor of science would answer question and has an open mind to being wrong. Now if I ask my religious roommate why is there a hell if god loves us, he freaks out and tells me not to question his god.
