@OMGWTF31 throw out all the safety features, the emissions packaging, the stability control systems, and the modern car radio and all its accessories, and it would be around $10,000
Brings back alot of great memories. Had a 1966 383 Charge A/T in this same color but with copper bronze interior and the spinner wheels. Paid $900 for it and sure wish I still had it. Could easily get 3rd gear scratches.
Only car I know of that had bucket seats in the back and a console that went all the way back to the rear seats and then after unlatching the rear divider from inside the trunk had all that space - used to smuggle beer and friends in to the local drive in.
Buying power of one 1966 USD compared to 2010 USD is $7.7. That means 3,257 * 7.7 = 25K. An average car price didn`t change, the money changed either.
@OsbornTramain Hey, thanks! Its funny that I never made the connection in all these years. She was as familiar to us back then as Flo from progressive is today.
WOW THATS GREAT PRICE now youd have to pay out the asssssss for an old school. i hate american cars nowadays you know just the basic bullshit when it comes to kinda of basic i like JDM. but when it comes to ur country old school. you cant hate that
i saw this version in saint louis near the rte 66 in a kind of hidden car market with only OLD SCHOOL cars <333 for about 12.180$ was really really surprised that it was that cheap O_O!
That was a lot of money for 67. Looks like its going to flip over when it takes those turns. I always need a space to carry my oars and picnic basket. This car was a monstrosity....and I love Chargers.
Man, 60s advertising was just so lame. I realize it was appropriate for the era but these days an advertisement is most effective at 15-30 seconds length. Anything longer is taking a risk.
Attention span. These days people expect to see the facts of/and the product at a quicker pace. A commercial that's over 30 (45 seconds at most) risks averting the attention span of the viewer. It's no wonder that most commercials these days aren't even close to a minute long.
I have owned two red Chargers, a '66 318 auto and a '67 383 4 speed. I gave the '66 ( with the engine and trany from the '67 as it was stuffed in the rear) to my younger brother. He still has it! Truly a great car! I liked the dash lights...no bulbs, but an "Electro-luminence" green plate attached under the dash gauge "mask" that lit up when turned on at night. There was no glare! The radio and shift indicator also were "E-L" but not on the '67. The '67 also had front-fender signal indicators.
$3257? Sign me up, ill take 2. But whats the fine print say under the car during the price clilp? probably: "Price subject to add an extra diget in the next 40 years"
Funny, my brother has had a '66 Charger for about 20 years now, and I wanted to buy it from him a few years back, but honestly, as much as I loved my '66 cuda and that charger, I can't stand driving older cars.
I know what you mean. With the new revelations in comfort and having everything within' an arms reach, then you go to one of these and it's like... you have to yell at your passengers so they can hear you.
Well said! Great memories, but they had drum brakes, and handled like a boat! My '66 had stiff suspention as I put stronger torsion bars in it. My '70 'Cuda was pretty, but my mini-van handles better! I get a chuckle when people Ooh & Ahh over old Mustangs! Nice until you drive one!
I got a friend with a 60s mustang we hooked it up Brembo brakes, Hotchkis suspension , Hotchkis powersteering, Good Year high preformance tires and it doesn't handle bad at all, better then a BMW so mustangs are nice even nicer if you drive one ;)
hmm, I thought McPherson coilover struts and steering r&p stuff made the handling of 60s Mustangs a lot better than torsion bars equipped models of the time. Was this due to factory setups? I've never driven a Mustang, but a '60 Impala - yes, but it has A-arms and etc.
Charger 66 is the best car for me. I already have mine in my garage. It is 100% original I'm 22 years old,and It is my first car which I'm gonna restore as brand new.
My dad had one but he sold it when I was nine because he was afraid I would kill myself in it when I got my licence and wanted to hedge his bets and got rid of it when I was young. Cool car. Remember riding in it when I was little. Had a pillow in the backseat that had this massive pin in it that I think was to keep it in place or something. Always pricking myself with it. I miss it alot. But he was probably right. I would have killed myself. 383 Hemi. Yeah probably
Great car but the 383. That's not a Hemi engine. Only the 426 at the time was a Hemi. Before that were other Hemi. The 392 for one. 318's, 360,'s, 383's, 400's and 440's are not Hemi Engines, only the 426. Means, Hemispherical combutsion chambers
Only the Japanese 'trash' will survive the recession, mostly because that's what people will want to buy. Chrysler had better figure that out, or go out of business. Making cars with gas-guzzling Hemi engines in them is not the way to go.
i think he used quotes around 'trash' to quote what alot of people are calling them, not what he personally thinks of them. (plus why would he tell Chrysler 2 smarten up uf he was an "domestic elitist"
Nice try, Neville6000, but the most American made car you can buy today is the Toyota Camry. It is stamped, assembled, and painted here by American (non-union) workers, with the most parts purchased from American companies. My Dodge mini-van is made in Canada. This Country was bought and sold long before you were born!
I never insulted the Camry at all-I was saying that Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and Subaru might survive better the domestic Big Three because they are well-built and have relatively few maintenance problems compared to the Big Three. And Toyota at least tried to build a decent hybrid car, unlike the Big Three.
Now it looks positively ludicrous, but I remember the Dodge Rebellion led by the lovely and talented Pamela Austin, the blonde spokesbabe in this commercial. She showed up a year or two later on Laugh-in, much to delight of my fluttering 13-year-old heart. And oh, yeah, the car was hot stuff too, but not as hot, in my opinion as the '68.
Charger 66 is the best car for me. I already have mine in my garage. It is 100% original I'm 22 years old,and It is my first car which I'm gonna restore as brand new.
I was going to purchase 1972 Dodge Charger and while trying it out the transmission started to slip. Dealer was trying to fix problem, and 8/12/72 I purchased my 1972 Chevelle and still own it today. 350 motor turbo hydramatic.
The price is posted in big letters. "And that's where the Dodge boys START to deal," she shouts, tacitly suggesting the price is too high. LOL
