The point is to cut the bullets not to block it with the side of the blade. And it doesn't matter if the bullets are copper or lead because the fact is that .50 cal bullets have massive force behind them, even more so at that distance.
Can someone who understands what they're saying clear up are they firing some soft bullets like lead or copper or realy anti material rounds, cause it has a big difference and btw they should try shooting from the side and with angle to see can it deflect or hold
an 800 dollar one will cut.... But a real deal, top of the line, triumphant masterpiece will run you several thousand. My kenjutsu teacher has a 15000 dollar sword. I'd personally want a howard clark L6 katana. Those are a few thousand.
1 hit on the flat and it wouldve destroyed the sword. bullets are lead and copper which r very soft. your moms butter knife could cut a bullet in half. even if you cut the bullet in half the two pieces will kill you. only now u got 2 holes in u except for 1. look at what the fragments did to the wall.

This was a test of cutting edges, high calibre bullet vs. katana. For the katana to withstand that many rounds is very impressive. The two weapons have different combat uses from different eras so it's difficult compare them.
Pretty amazing. Even through I dont understand Japanese I get the feeling that this was some sort of west vs east showdown. The ending music made it seem like the east lost. Now to test other swords. We have a litmus test to compare them by.
well no, .50 calaiber anti material bullets pretty much only get fired by snipers - it would be overkill to use a vehicle mounted mg - and anti material means just that - they are used for destroying inanimate objects not peircing armour ¬ .¬
Now please understand, .50 BMG ammunition (used in this machine gun), are used as anti material rounds (as well as ant personel, but thats overkill). These rounds were designed to go through light to medium combat armor and buildings. For a Japanese sword to withstand even ONE 50 caliber round, says something.
Mikkun, if you can doge a bullet that goest with the speed of about 400 M/s, we wouldn't have WEAPONS. These are not the matrix movies where a person doges bullets, you can't eaven doge a peebee gun, much less a 50" machinegun. Think before you imagine SF.
haha wich samurai or katana holder is going to wait till someone shoot's to dodge... the machine gun bullets you may not be possible to dodge that, but you can avoid to be aimed and im pretty sure that's what Mikkun means, because the bullet won't hit the target if the gun wasn't aimed on the target...
yeah, the machinegun won. but it took 6 bullets (the 7th broke it so it didn't count) before the katana bit(the bullet)and died. nah...the machinegun still can't touch a samurai who's fast enough, just dodge and keep the machinegunner busy using misdirection, then slice him when you get close.

Alright, I get the point, so I'm an airhead, geez. I have to admit that you're right. But still, It was quite amazing how the Katana sliced 6 bullets before it broke apart.
Why ar eppl talking about the mg.. its not about the machine gun its about the katana. The katana is so sharp that it split the bullet in half nearly every time. It took so many hits from a bullet before it broke finally. I dont care what any1 says katana is the best sword.
