thanks for the tip.. that is cool.. been shooting for a while and never saw a device like that... wish you would have posted the shot in your video....maybe its on your web site......? keep up the good work!
Do you have any videos on how you change out the sky in post as you mentioned in this thread?
hi i would like to know how you breacted your camera for mulitple exposures with the stops .. might be a crazy question but i would love to know how to do tht. i was never taught tht for hdr
Hi, thanks for the great video! I was wondering a few things 1) are you using a D3 and using the in-camera HDR feature or a 3rd party app to do the HDR? 2) does it matter which flash you use I have a SB-600. Do you have a preference over which is better, in-camera HDR or PP HDR? thanks.
@lg123xyz SB600 has less power than SB800, but still should be able to work with this unit. I can not compare myself. The D3 does up to 9AEB so I don't need more than that for outdoors work. There is no in camera HDR on a D3. It is all done in post.
@CocoTheCrazyCat Hey thanks for your reply, I came across this video on how to create HDR using camera alone, or is that not the same? just append this to the end of YouTube dot com /watch?v=1EoRbVX7Drk&feature=player_embedded
@lg123xyz That guy doesn't know what he is saying. That is not HDR. It is adding the luminance values of each shot. He didn't even choose a high dynamic range scene to showcase it. Don't waste your time.
@lg123xyz That guy doesn't know what he is saying. That is not HDR. It is adding the luminance values of each shot so if he had clipping whites in scene, they would still clip as you added luminance values together in camera. He didn't even choose a high dynamic range scene to showcase it. Don't waste your time with this misinformation.
When you are done finalizing the images, do you just provide them to the clients to do whatever with? Or do you upload them to MLS, create the photo tour, etc?
wow, at first I thought you were an ass because at the front of the video you ignore the camera, but I like your tips, thanks for taking the time to make this video, I wish my camera could bracket 9 shots, mine only does 3 :(
NOTE: Can you see my skin in the video? It is blowing out highlights because the crappy 7yr old miniDV cam has virtually no dynamic range. This scene was actually an EXTREMELY mild one & didn't need a large bracket, but the only shoot I had time to setup the video camera to explain the process. I use this method mostly in higher contrast scenes. It was cloudy & I knew I'd replace the sky in post so I only needed to bracket for the house to make sure the dark shadows on the porch were filled.
The "zoomed" local fill flash is great. But bracketing 9 shots at 1/3 stop is odd. That gives you only an extra 2 2/3 stop range - more like "mid dynamic range" than high. 9 shots at 2/3 stop or 7 shots at 1 stop per would give you much more range (and perhaps less need for the fill flash) with enough "information" for a smoothly toned end result.
@tomdarch good point, I never mentioned it in the video, but because it was cloudy out I had planned on replacing the sky so that exposure range wasn't even a consideration for the shot. And the tight bracketing was simply to allow a smoother range of saturation in the range I needed to capture. I've found that tighter captures when merged to HDR result in better tones when tonemapping.
Thanks for sharing this. Getting light to shaded areas is always a problem, so it's nice to find out how other people solve this issue.

@sixstringsixshooter I deliver the images to the client. They take it from there.

Thanks for the demo. After watching your video I instantly saw the value especially when I am selling cape cods and cabins with country porches.

Great idea. I don't do any real estate HDR, but I have run across a few occasion where the shadows never came through.

Thanks for sharing the technique...would be nice to see the finished shot and maybe a few of the ones that make it up.
