I dont think the interviewer is that bad...his questions are quite interesting and challenging. I think its just the way he presents himself...he looks quite nervous and slighty unprofessional...watch the jerry seinfeld interview with andrew denton and you'll know what I mean. larry david ftw!
I don't mind the interviewer but I wish he (or someone else who's interviewed David) would talk about the wording of "The Contest". The word "masturbation" was never used on the episode. I've always wondered if it was Larry's writing or the network asking him to remove it.
i like what larry says about not caring about being the number one show or striving to be on late night talk shows as a comedian, he was just concerned with being funny and success followed not far behind. he went about it for the right reasons

only thing that sucks about curb your enthusiasm is his writing always intertwines characters. its predictable that every episode will end in awkward situations that would be impossible to really occur. and everyone in the show except him has bad anger problems but i own like 4 seasons
There's been some stellar Brit comedies. Everyone knows Monty Python. But Wooster & Jeeves (sp?) was well written & the acting outstandign. & Black Adder I still think was sheer genius. Especially how Adder changed the various regular characters places in each era, then the wild ending in WW1 where they all charge an enemy trench right at the end of the war. Daring, creative, brilliant.
There is no one method of comedy or music or most art forms. What works is the right way to do it.
yes, i know that he playes himself, but i didn't know that he talkts the same way in real life, got it? i thought its just a role he plays, but hes the SAME character in CYE like in real life.
In one of his interviews he said that the person he plays in CYE is a fictionalized version of himself, is what he would be like in real life if he lacked social awareness and sensitivity. See in wiki for more info.
your correct. ricky gervais the creator of the office done a series. were he interviews one of his comedy heros for an hour. larry is one of his heros. and larry told him exactly what you just said. i highly reccomend that show, its called when ricky met larry. its on youtube .
I'm sorry, I didn't mean that ... but i tried to post several comments and they aren't showing up. So I'm mad. What the fuck? You don't have to answer that ... I don't give a shit/
Obviously your regional comedy is derived from the culture which is why there are maybe a few comedians that span cultures like David or Wright and you know I don't mind Izzard but for the most part simply based on culture and the absurdities of the culture that you know it makes it difficult to find the humor in other cultures. Personally I could care less for British humor, but I am not versed in anything British at all.
As a Brit, I think the main difference is that American humor is instantaneous, British humor more slow-burning. However, the best comedies usually come from a kind of American/British genetic melding. I'm thinking of The Simpsons and The Office (UK) specifically, two shows which combine American and British humor into something utterly unique.
Most of my favorite contemporary comedies are American, but I still dig a lot of British stuff. You should check out Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.
Yeah, another difference between American and British comedy is the fact that British humor is patently fucking moronic. Just buy all the seasons of Arrested Development, Mr. Show and Curb; and forget about the gnarly-toothed comedians on your island.
Plus Kenan and Kel, Hannah Montana, Two and a Half Men, Everybody Loves Raymond, Just Shoot Me, Joey, and many more profoundly penetrative and insightful pieces of American comedy gold, I'm assuming...?
i can't figure out why people are badmouthing the interviewer. he seems very well prepared as far as knowing David's work, and here he does a great job getting Larry to talk about the writing and improv processes for both Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. fascinating stuff.
Good pont, the interviewer isn't the person being intervieed, his joke is to look like a stiff or be a cool dude, whatever it takes to make larry say something funny.
The thing I love most about this guy is nothing he does is forced, it just comes naturally. The guy is a genius. He makes most comedian celebrities out there look like amateurs.
I'm English so could someone please explain to me the significance of moving from Wednesday night to Thursday night in America. Is Thursday night stay in and watch T.V. night or something?
Im not American either but I am a huge Seinfeld fan and have heard that Thursday used to be the big ratings comedy night on NBC back in the NBC glory days of Cheers, Home Improvement so on, around season 3 Seinfeld became huge part/most important part of the NBC Thursday night lineup, and then became one of the biggest shows on TV. Hope that helps in some way.
I'm american, but I don't watch tv. They would do it if theres another show (south park or lost) that's on that night or that time. Notice that lost was actually switched now to thursday, so yes i think it is some sort of must see thing, but most likely it's to avoid complications with another show or to bring more viewers to a new show on the same channel shown right after or right before.
I like the interviewer, most of them are pretentious assholes who try to focus the attention on theirselves. This guy really gives us a chance to see 'the real' Larry and what he's like. He talked to him more like a freind than an interviewer. Great job..
He's very original and creative! Larry and Jerry had the charm and wit to not take themselves too seriously, unlike many modern day "comedians" like Jon Stewart who seem to bask in their own ego, and engage in mean spirited jabs at others.
I strongly disagree. Stewart makes fun of people basking on their own ego, just like Colbert. Larry even watches them! They're great. I like them very much. Their comedy is very different from Larry's, but they're doing a really good job with their influence and power.
who filmed this with a camera from '95?

@CavemanShelbs it was Jerrys idea to replace the word masturbation because he thought it wouldnt be as funny when they said it.

Jon Stewart is not a comedian though, he's even said so himself. The comedy from the Daily Show is from the actual politics and not Stewart.
