Childbirth Classes really helped me go through my first couple hours of labor, even after I am laying in the hospital bed. Granted mine was almost a 24 hr labor. So I did request an epidural just so I could get some sleep. Yes the pain can get so strong that you can't talk. And when you're in that much pain, you can't even (or at least I didn't) feel the needle.
