  • the difference between a terrorist and an idiot is that a terrorist cant make clarinets

  • HI i recently bought ur ATG system and its great! im so happy. but im having problems with the altissimo register i can play all the way up to a high E flat. but i can't get anything after that it sounds really high and shirrle. do you think my reed might be to soft? shold i go up a size or... is there any reeds that you recommend? im using the f.of. gonzalez and rico evolution. and the F.O.F to me work better than the rico but still having problems with altissimo. help plz. thanks :)

  • LMAO at the Carnegie hall joke.

  • reed finishing by the brail method. you heard it here first folks!!

  • kkk!

  • THank you

  • there's no difference between an idiot and a terrorist! ;=)

  • Hahaha !! You're funny. You take a boring subject and make it entertaining. But I need to see in more detail what you are doing. In other words, please zoom in on the equipment you are using. I really have no idea what you actually did there. Was that a piece of plate glass ? A sanding block ? And what does ATG stand for ?

  • Does the ATG reed system cover all aspects of reed adjustment including flattening the table and clipping reeds? I always have a myriad of reed dilemmas. Often the tips/table of the reeds are warped and are not good as they come out of the box (or over time). Also, I have a reed trimmer, but I want imput into getting the most out of a clipped reed. They never sound the same...

  • nice sound!!

  • what is it ? sandpaper ? i don't see another vid explaining what the ATG system is. where does one buy one.. ? what is it?

  • Hi i'm also in Texas, do you do basset clarinet conversions? Like converting lower joints into basset lower joints?

  • KKK?

  • idiot!

    tom

  • Well thank you!

    idiot

  • You're more than welcome.

  • Though I trust you as a clarinet maker and teacher, but I've made reeds for years and I can see a system that allows you to make a reed in 2 minutes, but blindfolded? Unless you use a machine I don't find it possible with sandpaper because you can't find equilibrium in the reed

  • Does your product have value to sax reeds?

  • My system works on all single reeds of all sizes. Many pro sax players use it. Regarding "equilibrium"--you mean balance? Balance is no problem. This is absurd--you say you don't find possible what you just witnessed. You're like the farmer who went to the London zoo, saw a giraffe and exclaimed, "There ain't no such animal".

  • Sorry for my former ignorant comment. I actually have the system now and it is unbelievable. I can't 100% blame myself though. I mean the video seems to good beyond belief. I felt like it was a good reed and you made it sound bad first on purpose, but now that I have it I see that this system is a must. You'll be lucky to get 4 good reeds in a box and with the ATG all 10 play well so essentially those $30 on a box of 4 good reeds because under $15 per 4 good reeds

Cheers , God bless your system

  • It a very fine sandpaper. I been doing this for years saw it done on some late 30's or 40's who done it movie

  • nonsense

  • CHECK OUT A MOVIE NAMED The Thin Man With WILLIAM POWELL and MYRNA LOY. So with all the equipment do you repair clarinets becuse I am looking for an overhull job on on that was willed to me by my great gandfather. will all that repair equipment looks like you came from the Allied School Of Music Repair.

  • Song of the Thin Man (1947)

  • Cool... but can u post a video to teach more specifically how we modify...?

  • QUESTION : What r u Doing To The Reed ?

QUESTION : Are u Slightly Trimming The Reed ?

QUESTION : Did it look Like Sawdust when u finished the reed?

  • good vid, but before you said anything about the mask, i thought it was kkk, lol

  • I used my ATG reed finishing system tonight for the first time. One word, WOW! Very easy to use and very effective!

  • Oh, my question is: ever heard of this and what do you think is causing this?

  • This ATG is simply the best thing I have ever bought for my reeds. It works.

Tom, I have a question: Occasionally I have a reed that is balanced and has a great sound but when tonguing there is a slight echo, or at least that's how I describe it. It's like there is not a clean ending to the note. I have never seen anyone address this issue. (I have no issues with staccato and am certain it is the reed doing this.)

  • Muy bueno el sistema de lijado de la lengüeta. Enhorabuena. ¿como es el nombre en español del utensilio utilizado?. gracias.

  • I love your ATG system...it works for me...thanks again.

  • The ATG system is great...but blind folded!?!

Come on Tom the system will sell it's self without such silliness!

  • For some it will. But many people have tried so many methods of reed finishing and had them all fail they've completely lost confidence that there is anything that they can do to get good reeds except search helplessly through box after box. For those this demonstration is not silliness---it is a ray of hope, for it's obvious if someone can do it blindfolded it's got to be amazingly easy and they will be able to do it. The vid may be silly, but getting good reeds is dead serious stuff!

  • Tom,

It might have been silly, but it had its desired effect on me. I am going to buy one. Thanks.

  • I will pick up my ATG system set at the post tomorrow and I can't wait. But I wonder if this method is much better on a reed that is a bit too stiff. How about say if the reed is good in every way)(include the strenght but playing staccato is not good will the system cover that.

  • Normally if there is some problem with staccato the problem lies with the tip of the reed being too soft or some area of the tip being too soft, or the tip not being of an even thickness, or the tip of the reed mismatching the tip of the mouthpiece. There could be a flaw in the mouthpiece, but if other reeds are otherwise good in staccato the fault usually lies with the reed, not the mouthpiece. If there is softness in the reed the best choice is to clip a little and refinish.

  • Thank you very much for your reply. I'm looking forward to watch your dvd and use the system tomorrow

  • And creetings from Iceland(Who won the silver in mens handball and has populatin of only 300.000 at the Olympics in China).

  • I and my band director(And 3rd/bass player in the Icelandic symphony orchestra) had a great time last evening before rehersal using the ATG system and after less than 10 minutes he was totally sold on it and is going to buy it for himself too. Great job Tom!!!!!!!!! And he also had a great success with Pl Class professional reeds from Austria(I have no connection with them).

  • It is a great reed finishing system. I use it daily for myself and my students with wonderful results. Highly recommended.

  • mad skills.

  • Actually, the skills are neither mad, nor are they skills. That was really the point of the video: to help show people if they use the right methods and right tools reed adjustment doesn't have to be a black art only a few (who have sold their souls) can effectively master. With the ATG system reed finishing is easy----you can even do it in the dark!

  • WOW! Thanks so much Tom! A clarinet maker, and a comedian! Well, now I am 100% sure that I will buy your ATG system very soon. Thank you so much for your contributions to the world of clarinetistry!

  • As a comedian I have to say I hope you're serious about this.

  • You ARE remarkable, Tom! I agree with Ted! Very cool hood!

  • The "hood" was once an unused small towel I absconded with from our bathroom. A small safety pin completes the ensemble. What! The towel wasn't unused! ARRRRRRRGH!

  • He's certainly one of the best clarinet designers in the world

  • It is amazing! And with a KKK hood. Who I this talented man. What a great reed system. I must get this. Thanks!

  • This talented man is one of the best clarinet player in the world, called Tom Ridenour.
