I realized that the emergency doors are not supposed to open without inflating the chutes. So, opening an emergency door does likely not work.

It would probably be a good idea to point out that the best position for an lap infant is in a FAA approved child restraint device. An increasing number of airlines are now recommending unconventional bracing positions, including those who have three-point shoulder harnesses (like Cathay Pacific) or airbags in the seat belt (like Air New Zealand).
