  • All in favor of Kenny Garret for president say Aye

  • I can't imagine standing there face to face with Miles and playing!

  • freakin' fantastic this guy is an IDOL !

  • wow this guy shreds and im an alto and Bari player this guy inspired me!!! wow way to go man

  • I play guitar but im thinking about switching to saxophone.

Just love the sound and working with my lungs(dont really know how its spelled).

  • Freakin' awesome!!

  • awesome

  • outch ! it was so good !

  • ....nooooooooooooooooooooooo?

  • Is Miles on the trumpet?

  • yes my friend

  • Ive been playing tenor sax for a year.

  • 1:09 - 1:16 beautiful

  • number one sexiest musical instrument is the sax :P bass guitar number two

  • Your'e so damn right! xD

  • Woohhoo!!!

  • wow... awesome...

  • oh my god

  • clasic. This man is the way.

  • nahhe is in c minor

  • improv takes so much skill

  • its spelled saxophone not saxofon

  • lol its in spanish dude

  • depends on the language

  • it might be spanish :S, and it would then be correct

  • is spelled in spanish, in the world not only speak english ;)

    bello e increible solo!

  • lmao not everyone speaks english bigot

  • in german its also spelled saxofon with f

  • that guy couldnt resist tapping is toe. I dont blame him!

  • Perfect example of a fucking really good saxophonist. All those Kenny G clones and kenny himself should take a deep listen. And for Miles......there are no words for his genius!

  • Kenny Garrett is sick, I'll give you that. But just because Kenny G plays that style of music, doesn't he mean he's not a great saxophone player. Listen to him playing straight ahead and he sounds great, no smooth shit.

  • Where can you find Kenny G (Gorelick, not Garrett) playing straight ahead? I'm truly curious.

  • Kenny G is making pure crap when you consider these guys m8..

  • Obviously, I was commenting on someone elses post, who claimed he knew of good Kenny G, so I asked where I could find some as proof.

  • hell yeah

  • Yep. he the best

  • bloody genious sax player is what. that's it!!

  • Great sound. Can somebody (a musician) help me out? Is he playing in C# and the band in E? Or what? Don't have a keyboard here in the backwoods.

  • Key of A

He is in F# ish! ;)

  • Kenny Garrett is by far the best alto saxophonist today. End. Of. Story.

  • think about how nerve-racking it would be to stand and play while miles davis just stands there less than a foot away from you and just watches over with a really stern look on his face haha i'd probably pee my pants

  • just before this solo, miles said to kenny "come on,...come on ,this is your night"

    yes ...it was!

  • Which song is this?

  • "human nature" but it's just keny's solo part...

  • If this doesnt inspire you to pick up your sax i dont know what would. Simply terrific music. In particular those two notes at 0:55 have such a great pure quality to them.

  • I heard this solo first!

    But it's amazing

  • bravissimo

  • WOOOOO IS PERFEC REALY PERFEC

  • my music teacher did something close to this yesterday

  • SKILLS!

  • beautifulllllll solo!

  • This is smooooooooth! I can listen to this all day long. I hope I can play like him. Serious sax player!

  • Cheers! I will!

  • just bought an alto sax and have only got claranet reeds. . . is this why i physically cant get a note out of the sax?

  • Definently the reason. Try size 2or 2.5 alto reeds, Ricos are good for starting out.

  • probably lol

  • yeah, i tried a clarinet reed on a sax and it didn't work

  • SupErb pErformaNce! !

  • fenomenal

  • phail

  • waoo this something perfect...

  • toujours le meilleur

  • HOLY FUCK.

  • 1:49 esa frase es del putas!!!!

  • j'adore ce solo merci pour cette vidéo

  • What song is this?

  • that song is human nature by michael jackson. Here, you just have the end of that song

  • 2:35 How does he make that sound? I've been dying to know, I can't figure out how to do it.

  • humming or singing while he plays, or simply making a grrr noise in the throat. takes control to get it that good though

  • My friend, I would agree with you if he was doing rock and roll sax.. but the sound isn't humming. I humbly offer this. It would be a lot 'grindier' sounding and more heavy if he was doing that. He's playing split tones when he gets up high like that, which is like a few fingerings mixed that messes up the air stream and makes it give that ripping sound. He has a very harsh/smooth tone, but that's a combination of mouthpiece, reed and his throat and head... combined with absolute mastery

  • hey thanks for your amazingly polite comment. do you know anywhere i could find these split tone fingerings? i completely agree with the statements you make, going back to my horn its clear that humming isn't what he's doing

  • hi,

well its kind of hard to explain without showing you but you make a husky growling sort of sound in the back of your throat and then blow quite hard at the same time. have a go but sorry if this doesnt help.

  • it helps a little bit. xD Thanks for the info i'll try that sometime.

  • 2:00 - one note - full emotions !!

  • you spelt saxophone wrong :)

  • It's in a different language. :)

  • cierto bueno con alguna excepciones de hecho todo es musica solo que depende de el oido de la persona

  • Jodeeeerrrr... me ponen los pelos de puntaa!

  • wow that sound goes into my soul

  • exceeeeeeleeete sax de verdad llega

  • Amazing! An outstanding solo, and funny to see Miles doing the mike stand. Towards the end, one can identify "Milestones".

  • its good cuz it makes you move

  • Geniale!!

  • Que espetáculo!

  • One of my favorite alto fusion solos ever!

  • Omg i love Kenny Garrett. The best Sax solo ever!:XSuper cool!!!

  • gran pezzo e se lo dice il mala......

  • cause it's all about being in the moment

    and just feeling the groove

  • The tension and the melodic lines.

  • you missed everything... unless your joking haha

  • You totally missed the point of like... Jazz period. That's sad

  • well you see the solo is melodic, I guess you just don't understand this sort of melody. Unless you do already you should start listening to jazz, it is one of those genres that you won't like immediately, but you will understand. Kenny Garrett, along with other jazz musicians like him, uses notes other than those within the typical expected form, and uses techniques and makes sounds that aren't always expected.

  • It's not that there's no melody, it's just too complex for your brain to understand it... Try listening more to stuff like that, so that your brain will start getting used to complex melodies. I'm not insulting you, this is science, by the way.

  • I think your question: "Someone please tell me why this is good" is great. It's a totally valid question... and one that many new jazz listeners ask.

3 ways to get answers: 1. Ask a jazz musician for a laymen's explanation of jazz improv; 2. Read about jazz improv + music theory; 3. Listen to a lot of jazz until your "ears" begin to "hear" and understand intuitively what's going on.

  • hey i actually like it now yay

  • This is one of the best solos in the world!!

  • Why does Miles have that look on his face as though he got showed up. It appears he looks stunned at the end of Kenny's solo.???

  • A-fucking-mazing. Should close comments, this solo speaks for itself.

  • cool

  • simplemente excelente
