There r other sides 2 the story Curls and waves provide, SO TRUE that 4 some u could look @ our skin tones & curls as a result of rape. But 4 others those waves were made w/ love.My Aunt who is dead now told stories of how the black chillin's of the master were supposed 2 leave the room when guests came over 4 dinner 4 example but our white relative stood up 4 his mixed black chillin's &had them sit @ his table which meant more than just being allowed 2 stay n the room whether they like it or not
I am biracial and very well may have been a product of "slave raping" as you have stated in the poem, should I be any less proud of my curls/waves? I appreciate the concept of this, I just think you could have gone about wording it differently, unless you INTENDED to offend those such as myself who have the best of both/many worlds in their background.
@rosegoodrich1 No, Not At All. I Wrote This Poem For The Girls Who Hate Having "Nappy" Hair Which Is Just Beautiful Thick Hair...It Was Not Written To Offend Biracial People Or Children. Being Biracial Is A Beautiful Thing.
@rosegoodrich1 I think that one can be biracial but be proud but not lose sight of where we come from. Can we really deem ourselves "the best of both worlds" when we are in fact children of rape? We don't have to see ourselves as being limited by our mothers' stories, but we ought to take those stories into account when formulating our own...or be doomed to repeat our rapist great-grandfathers' mistakes, or submit to unloving men in an attempt to block out our grandmothers' cries.
@rosegoodrich1 It is only keeping the past in mind which enables us to not repeat the mistakes or outright acts of cruelty and violence that our foreparents have done in the present, or watch our kids repeat them in the future.0
Most of us in the new world are product of raped slave women but the dominant African gene masked those other features in most of us.
