Then my trimmer switch goes out and they still havent responded. What a nightmare this has been. They send me a replacement circuit board for my CE6, when I take the board out, I find out it has lose connections. I wonder if these lose connections had anything to do with my batteries failing? These are only good for a perfectly manicured lawn as evident by this video. Anything else you can forget it!
My batteries were useless in less than 2 years. The first one to go bad they did replace. A few months later the second battery went out. I wanted a replacment for it but I still I do not have one. They told me to pull the 3 cells out of the two batteries that failed to try and make one good battery. Well I told them that all of the cells in one battery had split open on both ends and were useless. The other battery had two good cells and one that had split open. I still havent heard from them.
This mower is actually manufactured in Vermont. Thank you very much for posting this informative video. You're a little cutie, but you didn't answer my biggest question -- how hard is this for an older person with a bad back to push? And what about if it's a bit of an uphill push? I'm wondering if I should do the 5.2 but the cutting path is so narrow.
I've owned a Toro Cordless for over 12 years. In the time I've owned it I've replaced the batteries once (they froze during the winter, my bad) and replaced the carriage. I have an average size yard and have never had a problem unless I let the grass grow too high. I love the dam thing but I want to get a rear bagger. I HIGHLY recommend cordless mowers to anyone who has never owned one. No gas, no tune ups and low noise make them a winner in my book.
The future of battery powered lawn mowers will be great. Clean air, not as noisy as the gasoline powered lawn mowers. It starts up quick and easy. And saves you money.
We heard that years ago and the technology has not improved enough to compete with gas mowers. Manufacture an electric mower with power and reliable batteries. Then I'll try one again.
Enough power to cut the grass with ease is good enough. The batteries should be reliable. And recyclable. There is new battery technoloygy out there that will help perform better. The electric lawn mower is something many people should have instead of gas powered ones.
I can't comment of this model, but I'll tell you DO NOT buy a Homelite cordless mower. It is poorly designed, underpowered and overpriced. Mine died within 90 days so I exchanged it at Homedepot for a gas mower. Homelite knows the charger is killing batteries and refuses to address the problem.
dan001A - Yes I believe it is made outside the US, but I would ask you where your computer was made or the parts in your car or the clothes you wear? The fact of the matter is we live in a global economy and its VERY difficult to purchase only things made in the USA.
Wow lots of great comments here, thanks for all of them. Couple replies:
Spiritsofthewolf - I've never heard of a propane mower, sounds pretty cool. Our stance on the fact that it plugs into the power grid although doesn't technically make it "emissions free" (yet) creates a point source pollution which is much easier to control. Just as with plug in cars, it one step in the right direction. Also it is very nice not having the fumes in your face.
@ brentquebman, piss off i rather have something that can last a long time between charges, and the propane tank last me all mowing season, that's MORE runtime than these battery free mowers, and cost less to reill than to replace a battery, that not even worth the price to replace the battery, might as well put a deep cycle boat trolling battery on it to run longer :P, and on top of that, the cutting width is shorter than my 22 inch cut
must be made in china, i'll pass i got a lawn mower than has less emissions than these electric, yes they don't pollute, BUT putting load into the power plant means more emissions in the fresh air from nuclear power plant facilities, my mower runs on propane, and runs better, cuts more than these electric.... sorry to be mean, but, i would not even own one, even if they are the last mower on earth, i will NEVER own one electric mower :P
SpiritsoftheWolf -- I hope you find peace within your life and I wish you nothing but happiness as it appears you need some in your life. Good fortune to you my brother.
I think the issue here is everyone seems to like this Neuton because they have not tried it compared to other electric models. I hear more personal testimonies from a number of consumer sites that do prefer b&d and craftsman the best and that seems to coincide with the publicans. Many complaints concern neuton's charging base as faulty, narrow cutting width, and further issues if your lawn has inclines. Promoting this mower because it's sharp looking is a very poor argument to cling to.
You bring up a very valid point. However after mowing with it all summer my experience has been extremely good. Like many other products, the way it looks does matter and lets be honest, old school electric mowers are uninspiring. If I'm going to try and convince my neighbor to give up his noisy, super polluting "mans" mower, I better damn well have something better, more innovative. Those mowers you mentioned didn't fall far enough from the tree.
I mowed my lawn probably 50s over the last two years with my Neuton. I don't have the model shown here. Mine is the smaller version. It's PERFECT for me. Very quiet -- I can listen to something other than the roar of a gas mower. It's easy to start. Light to push. There's no cord to yank. And there's not the really annoying vibrations of my Dad's gas machine. Highly recommended.
You should read the recent Consumer Report May 2008, there is an entire article all about cordless mowers and gas mowers. Neuton rated the bottom of the list, Black & Decker and Craftsman rated the highest in cordless mowers, Remington was rated the easiest to use though. Neuton, there was much to say.
Remington will have something even better in 2009 but the power is increditable versing a Neuton
I know we talked about this but the Neuton is not the best cordless mower. I tried the Craftsman, Remington mover, Earthwise, Black & Decker and Homelite. The best one that cuts the strongest is the Remington, it has the most power, has a cord or cordless option, longer battery time than Neuton and is made in USA, not Taiwan. Second best is the Black & Decker, 3rd is Craftsman, 4th is Earthwise and Homelite, I just didn't like the Neuton at all.
Thank you for your opinion. We have been very happy with the Neuton now for four weeks. I understand your issue with it not made here in the United States and we wish it were as well. We made our decision knowing this and note it on our site.
the charge work time is bad....a couple other models will go 2 or 3 hrs. This model is only ideal for small lawns...

I think so too. Battery powered lawn mowers are cordless. That is one of the best things about it. Like a happy dog running around free.

Also make one with self-propell ability.

Use a mechanical push mower or buy a couple of goats if you really buy into this going green nonsense.

Almost certain they are made in Taiwan or China - No Thanks! If it's not made in America and supporting our own people you'll never sell it to me!

you say thats quiet it sounds like a electric sander

Its much more quiet than a gas mower. The audio on my camera is not the highest quality, so take that into consideration...

My Neuton mows well. However, as the guys says in this vid, the side shoot is close to worthless. My side shoot always falls off.
The bag works good n attaches easy n comes off easly.
The mulching mode seems to evaporate the grass cuttings, U just don't seem them any where.
It is relativly light to lift up on my Gravely's trailer.
My Neuton feel is vary chinsy but this I suspect is to keep the weight down so more mowers can be hauled across the Pacific less expensivly.
Just y 2 cents
