"Air" Jordan is the Bruce Lee of basketball, Kobe said it best when he called Jordan "The Master". Poor "Big Country" Ostertag got his big country ass dunked on twice. LOL!
Well in all fairness, Longley pushed Ostertag out of MJ's way on that dunk, just enough so Mike could finish the play. Had Longley not done so, it would have been harder for Mike to dunk that with Ostertag's body in his way, so probably would have been 2 free throws. But considering all the things going on in the paint, no NBA ref will call that, especially at the United Center and against Jordan.
i was at this game and wasn't there a call that went vs the bulls that jordan didn't like ? i remember dr jack ramsay confided with refs and the call really hurt da bulls . does anyone remember that?
lol damn , i have this one on tape somewhere...i remember watching it and going nuts when he did that dunk...lol check out longly's reaction when they show the replay
Man I was looking for this for 11 years now(lol)I remember this like my social security # Look how hype Jordan was after he slammed it on Postertag!!! Great dunk 4real
LOL! Isiah had the time of his life complementing MJ! And rightfully so! He spilled out some funny lines in the process: "Ok forget what malone just did. Let me try to explain to you what jordan just did here..... See the smart guys, they'll run away when they see him coming like that, because they don't wanna be on the poster. But See ostertag ain't been in the league long enough to know that he's supposed to move." Classic! :]
You people are talking about how he moves his feet at the start of the move on the replay at 9:44-9:45? lol Refs can't even see that. Look at it in real time at 9:30 -- it just looks like he's coming up on his heels to initiate the drive, not like his feet move at all. Expecting refs to call (or even SEE) that travel is crazy imo. There's no way they can see that. You can barely see it in the slow-mo replay.
you are right jordanlover. as i said in the first post, he did it so quick and smooth that he could completely get away with it.
and of course other nba players travel too, in even more absurd ways, like one of the dunks that leborn put up last year( i dont quite remember which game) he basically walked for 4 steps for this 1 on 0 breakaway dunk.haha
Not to mention everyone else travels too and they don't call it. I distinctly remember Malone in game 5 of 1998 finals right in front of a referee jab stepping with his right foot and having his left foot be a pivot. Then moving over 1 step each with each foot and shooting the ball and it not being called a travel. But instead it being a "highlight".
Ummmm EXCUSE ME I AM SORRY!!! OK, forget what "Malone" just did. You just got posterized! Zeke was an underatted color commentary guy. However, as a Knick fan he was pathetic as a GM!
sorry typo, i mean i was referring to the very last dunk in the end not the hop step dunk in the middle. and you are right foremily, it is nba and it is jordan.
Like popeye said, the first dunk was fine. The second dunk on the baseline, he traveled right at the beginning of the move - both of his feet shuffle before he makes his move to the baseline
MJ does that a lot. In your videos he did against Miami in game 1 or 2 of the 1997 playoffs I think and against Utah in game 3 in the 1997 finals. He also did that in a regular season game against Portland in 1997 but Clifford Robinson bumped into him and got called for a foul. He does real quick though. Plus he's MJ.
Everyone travels and carries the ball, it's the NBA..if not there won't be exciting plays...lol.. Probably, the one player who traveled the most but only got the call once or twice was Ewing. As for carrying the ball, AI is probably on top of the list. KB fans, please don't say that KB doesn't travel or carries the ball. MJ traveled on some of his moves and carried over on his cross over but he did it so quick it was hard to catch.
@ForEmily23 but understand from the angle the refs are at, which is at Michael's right side, refs are only gonna see the jab, not the use of both feet. We have the luxury of replay. It is a travel on the replay, but if u don't have the angle it's harder to catch. Almost like refs in football, if they don't have the right angle, they'll miss holding and all kinds of calls.
damn that dunk was sick! and no...it's not a travel. the jump-stop = two steps if the feet land simultaneously. the nba players today hop-step, then take a one-two...that's a travel.
lmao even zeke was like "ooooo, oooo" lol cant do nothin but be a little kid when he plays lol Jordan is just...u know what i think there isnt a word that can describe Jordans play in the dictonary
Like Isiah said. MJ was the greatest player because of the combination of his fundamentals and skill level. Add on the ridiculous athletic ability and you got a awesome player.
Jordan was 2.5 weeks shy of 35 years old in this game, so it's a bit mistaken to point out that he was 34. Not actually wrong, but not exactly the whole truth, either. :P
Remember this game like it was yesterday. & that was the DUNK OF THE YEAR. The crossover, the hopstep, the hang, the throw down. done so smoothly & effortlessly. Many thanks for putting up this game.
That same year the dunk contest was eliminated from AS weekend and ESPN held their own fans-voted dunk contest. The dunk over Ostertag was the one shown to promote the contest. It was amazing how a 34 year old man (MJ was 34 when he did this dunk) was still able to hang and jumped high enough to stuff it over a 7'2 center. MJ also had another facial dunk that year over Brian Williams at home against the Pistons late that season.
I'm anxious to see if KB can dunk over a center when he's over 30. RR0849, your poster dunks mixed is awesome, you show people that when MJ dunked over somebody, most of the time there was a body-to body contact. You either jump higher than the defender or you hang longer. MJ had both of those abilities. Players today dunk over a center when either the center jumps late or he's caught by surprise. MJ and VC would go up and challenge the shot blocker.
When KB dunked over Dwight Howard, if you see the replay, the ball was slipping out of his hand. Howard was caught off guard. Also, when he dunked over Yao, there was no body to body contact. When KB dunked over Ben Wallace in '97 pre season, you would see that Ben didn't jump, he was taking a charge.
MJ's famous dunk over Ewing, both guys jumped and there was body to body contact and we all know who came out on top.
Ohhh Pleeaassseee!! not Kobe discussion again. He aint even top 10 dunkers ever. VC & 'Nique are great comparison who took physical body-to-body contact, hung enuf & threw it down with authority. Dr J & Kemp too with lots of body contact. Kobe dunks are weak & ugly most of the time. His are not true poster dunks.
Well, the reason KB is singled out and brought up over and over again is because he won the MVP (he deserves it) but the media, fans are bringing the discussion that he's better than MJ to the next level. Things need to be put in perspective, MJ is the GOAT, KB is the probably the 10th best player of all time. KB switched to #24 not because he wore that # in High School but because he wants to be 1 higher than MJ. Same thing with his #10 Olympic jersey because MJ wore #9.
'Ostertag, don't you have cable'...Probably the best line ever by Isiah Thomas. In this game Bob Costas asked Isiah about the incident when Malone took him out and his response was because he was schooling Stockton and Malone had to do it.
lol @ 5:34. Thomas is a fool, " Just Gangstering the basket ". Hornysac was just no match for Jordan, i loved watching MJ just toy with him at will. lol @ 8:07 sounded like he had an Orgasm. Then Coastas askes him if he's alright, lol. Not a big fan of these two but when there together they are just fools.
tnx 4 sharing this man!! what a move!! crossover..hopStep..dunk on a 7 footer!! damn!! he's really the GOAT!! love the reaction of isiah and bob!! lol,

not saying MJ didnt travel on any of his moves, but in this particular game not even close
well if you look at it and see where he set his pivot foot when he receives the ball from his teammate, it is a travel. he moves both feet a bit to the opposite direction before he put the ball down on the floor. i understand it is nit-picking and of course i am not one of those guys who always try to pick out what jordan could get away with.
