I have many memories at Zellers. It is very sad to see them go. The only problems with it that it takes too long to get something at the restaurant, but it tasted good and now there is not a lot of things to find there. I can't believe now people are caring only about low prices, not quality or service. I hope that Zellers will not end up like Woolco.

Zellers was Canadian but it didn't get very far and their mascot didn't stick. I love Wal-Mart, but I'm sad it's American. I wish Zeller's would have grown, but oh well.. All the business to our fellow Americans, whatelse is new? At least they employee us!! :)

Worked at Zellers before, Quit after about a year... It was annoying how they forced us to sell credit cards to customers... we had to ask them FIVE times, before we took no for an answer... like... seriously no wonder why they were bought out.. lol

@RydiaKurakisa You have it backwards. They gain money tremendously when you make customers credit cards because the card company gives Zellers a % rather than Visa taking a %. Plus card holding customers are much more likely to come back and use the card rather than going somewhere else.

Of course Zellers makes money off the cards, if they didn't they wouldn't exist. But not everyone actually -wants- one, a vast majority don't apparently. Who wants to be bothered Five times per every time you shop there to get -another- credit card on top of the one they already have?

A lot of the cashiers wouldn't even ask once due to all the negative feedback :(

zellers has been outstripped by time, just like most big box brick and mortar retailers will be in the coming years. i suspect we'll see places like staples get taken over/collapse soon from over extending themselves in an otherwise crowded space, we will see futureshop merge completely into bestbuy since they're both owned by the same and redundant.

@CrewRite grand and toy is still bigger in north america from what i've noticed. staples has seen growth recently but i think it has more to do with strange sales like in the UK offering 20 pounds free so long as shipping is paid. they're solvent which is all you can ask for i guess, but that word has a double meaning in the sense they can be quickly absorbed and dissolved. doubt staples makes it to a 30~35th anniversary without going through big changes. but what do i really know.
