Man, this is such an epic moment. Y2J debuting against the "classic" Rock. What amazing times we used to have. Moments like these keep us wrestling fans for life.
I hope they don't fuck up his return like they did in 2007. It was the first time I actually got excited about wrestling in a while, and when he came back I got shives, but it was really short lived and got boring fast. I hope he's a heel but one of them heels that you love to hate like he's always been.
I think he will stay heel even with this return and this is why he didn't even talked when in the ring, this way he could enjoy a babyface return (even if a bit akward) and next week start trash talk the hell out of the arena. This is better this way, heel jericho is just awesome.
@qwerops12345 well of course, people know who he is and all at this point. plus stuff didn't get around as well as it does now cuz internet didn't really shoot off yet.
I have really stopped watching wrestling since the ufc garnered my interest, but I was watching raw when this happened and I was a big fan of jericho in wcw. This is easily the moment I most remember for giving me a huge rush. I'll never forget it. The huge pop for jericho was epic
maybe the sickest moment in wrestling history..they had been teasing crowds with running clocks for months before this, and nobody knew went it meant..nobody knew that jericho had left wcw at the time...
Cena made a historic debut in 1999??? Cena was the first undisputed champion in WWE?? cena is the one that has had the Intercontinental Championship more times than anyone else??? cena is an expert in Mexican wrestling, Japanese and American??? john cena never know who is having these achievements! JERICHO BACK AND REAL WRESTLING Show
Laugh all you want man the facts and figures are all there. Cena sells tons more merchandise than Jericho ever has.
You;d be right in saying Jericho is a better wrestler, and you can hate Cena all you want. But don't be a douche and try and disclaim the fact that Jericho is a bigger star than Cena. Jericho has never been the face of the company, Cena has been and is.
@1991ltd Hahaha there you go again. And for your information I don't hate Cena, but the single solitary moment in which you compare Chris Jericho to John Cena is a spit in the face to professional wrestling. Chris Jericho has traveled and competed all over the world and John Cena started in the US and because he's the ''complete package'' he always got the ''perfect'' push. Y2J has worked for everything he has. John is a serious worker, but fact is that genetics were the major factor.
What the hell man....I'm not disputing any of that! I agree with you about Jericho being a better wrestler and better in general really. But the fact remains that Cena is a bigger star than Jericho! It's a fact...the numbers are there to prove it.
I like Jericho more than Cena, but I'm not going to be an idiot and pretend Cena isn't the bigger star. The mere fact that Cena is mentioned on every video that has nothing to do with him, including this one. Is proof of that.
@JudasCage Actually Cena got his push due to Jericho. Vince hadn't seen anything in Cena at that point, but Jericho asked to put Cena over. And what really got Cena over was his rapping gimmick. Not his genetics.
Well done...not sure why you're telling me that. I'll tell you that myself. But i was arguing the fact he's a bigger star than Jericho...so can't see where that came from.
@1991ltd I'm not disputing that Cena isn't a bigger star than Jericho. But is Jericho as far behind as you think? Jericho is a merchandise seller. Hes also a draw. Thats why WWE give him these extravagant entrances. Jericho wasn't a big star at this point in his debut, yet Vince saw something in him to let him debut against The Rock. Also, Jericho's mainstream status isn't bad. DWTS for example and hosting VH1 I think. And his band is growing in popularity.
I don't think he's light years behind Cena. But Cena is up there behind Hogan and Austin in terms of merchandise sales. Jericho has never been the top guy in the business, Cena is to this generation what Austin and The Rock were to the attitude era and what Hogan was before them.
@1991ltd Except Austin, Rock and Hogan were much bigger stars than Cena. Saying that though, Jeff Hardy rivalled Cena's popularity in his final year with WWE, and sold as much if not more merchandise.
That's not true, Jeff Hardy was popular but came nowhere near Cena in terms of merchandise sales. He sold quite a lot of those arm things though. And yeah, Austin, Rock and Hogan were bigger stars than Cena. But Cena is 3rd behind Austin and Hogan in terms of merchandise sales.
Damn I remember seeing it live and just listening to the roar of the crowd there doesn't even compare to seeing it on video. It gave me goosbumps when it happened. To this day i've never heard a louder Pop from a crowd for a wrestler since. Probably the closet i've heard was CM Punk's entrance vs. Cena at MITB.
@KidJohnnyStorm Yeah you are correct. Jericho is so far ahead of him that the "Dwayne" can only dream of being as impressive as Jericho. Jericho was cool. Dwayne is corny.
@KidJohnnyStorm Yes Jericho is not as good as the Rock but he has great Charisma and i cant wait for him to come back. He is one of the reasons why Raw was good.
@johnmclane101 "Dwane is corny". Nice joke stupid punchline. The rock was complete and utter epic win in 1999 no one talked more trash then he did, whether if he was talking trash about wrestlers, interviewrs, ring annoucers, camera men, roadie agents, he did it all hell name me another wrestler who is capable of cutting promos DURING matches...exactly. Stop riding the philp brooks cult of jealousy. Corny is what you call wwe when they try and mask their pg era with an imaginary "reality era".
@marie90 i agree he "was" epic in 99 but he "became" corny. I've had that opinion of him since around 2000. I am not jumping on Phil Brooks bandwagon. I am simply stating my own personal opinion. Look at Rock's promo's from mid 99 or before when he was the corporate champion and then compare to just a few year years later in 2001 and 2002. If u can't accept the fact that i have my own opinion which i am entitied to and have always stood by then there is something fundamentally wrong with you.
@johnmclane101 while i'd agree that 2000-2001 rock wasnt all that great compared to his 90's self his 2003 hollywood heel persona was just as good as his late 90's persona.
This was the greatest debut of all time, because it was a legitimate shock. Nobody knew who was debuting after the countdown was over because there was no internet fags spoiling everything. Hell, now-a-days if an Impact wrestler comes to WWE, like Kharma, EVERYBODY knows because of all the internet fags spoiling it. Jericho debuting was a legit shock & people marked the fuck out. You little kids wouldn't understand because you've grown up with the internet.
(continued) Plus look at how Jericho's career turned out compared with Jarrett's. I doubt Jericho envies "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett, it should be the other way around.
@sirmateo75 Agree 100%. That moment is done so fucking perfectly the way the JERICHO just spins up on to the screen. Unreal debut. Hasn't been a debut done better than this that I can think of.
I know I commented on this last week, but I had to check it out again. Man I miss true wrestling fans like the people in that crowd. Us Attitude Era fans are the best... crowds now-a-days absolutely suck.
good idea for a game show: Y2J Objective: Try to make chris jericho look bad in the ring. unless ur john cena u cant do it. easy views haha jerichoholic 6 years
@TheRCA99 we are not in the "pg era" anymore, it's called "The Reality Era". That's what CM Punk named it, if you think there's been kiddy shit lately you haven't watched the past 2 months of WWE Television.
Definitely the best debut of all time... the pop when "JERICHO" came up on the screen was crazy. Not many fans knew Jericho was coming to the WWE... all the internet spoilers & rumors weren't as big as they are now-a-days. Now-a-days, no wrestler could debut in the WWE without some idiotic jackass spoiling it for everybody on the internet. Tazz's debut was a legit shock too... but Jericho still had the best debut of all time.
I read in Jericho's book that when he got to WWE and Russo just left for WCW, Russo called Jericho to come back to WCW. I think Jericho should have listened to Russo, Jericho probably would have been in Jeff Jarrett's place as The Chosen One and would have been WCW Champion instead.
@drewtucker21 Actually the rock was the last wcw champion as he was wcw champion during SS 2001 and the following night on raw it was renamed to the world championship
@WCWImpactWrestling Oh WOW you mean he could have been the chosen one in a dead organization instead of going on to be a legend in the top promotion? Holy shit! You are right! Jericho TOTALLY should have gone back to the same organization that treated him like shit that caused him to leave in the first place!
@WCWImpactWrestling Just as well he stayed where he was then, because he would only have been back for 2 years before WCW went bust and he would have been in the ill fated Invasion angle.
@WCWImpactWrestling This is completely false. Why would he have any regrets not leaving WCW after the way they treated him? Because he would of been on top for a year or so? He went on to have a great run in WWE and still remains in close contact with them, come on now.
@WCWImpactWrestling doubt it. nash as the booker wasnt letting anyone become bigger than him. he did everything he could to knock out goldberg as the top dog.
@WCWImpactWrestling He would have been an idiot if he stayed in WCW. WCW was on it's way to dying. Jericho accomplished so much in the WWE, winning multiple World titles and becoming a top WWE superstar.
@WCWImpactWrestling Why would Jericho want to go back to the poorly run WCW? let alone listen to Russo (who many people dislike) and on top of that was bought out by WWE 2 yrs later. If you read his book you would understand that staying there would not have been beneficial for him. Besides he has had an amazing run in WWE (multi-time champion) and is a lock for the HALL of FAME
I'm a fan of Jericho, but I always thought he should have stayed in WCW, rather than going to WWE. In WWE, he seemed more held back and not as great as he was in WCW and it shows in his style of promos and matches in WWE. He just had more freedom in WCW to do what he wanted, WWE just controlled everything he did and made him boring,
I've watched this so many times it's ridiculous. I just devoted a whole blog piece to it. I f you wanna check it out google aussiesportsfantom and check out the piece called "Doing wrestling justice."
Watching this debut made me remember the specific moments in WWF(E) That I just fucking loved, there was no doubt about it. Favorite being Booker T vs Stone Cold in the supermarket. :)
This really started to bury WCW. Here was a guy who was basically a midcarder with them, and yet was instantly upper card material with WWE because they knew how to build a guy up.
Man, this is such an epic moment. Y2J debuting against the "classic" Rock. What amazing times we used to have. Moments like these keep us wrestling fans for life.

WCWImpactWrestling 6 months ago
@WCWImpactWrestling But he did become WCW champion..in WWE...in fact, he was the LAST WCW Champion before it was renamed the World Championship.

@drewtucker21 Actually, it got renamed during Rock's reign.

@drewtucker21 Well played. He was the last WCW champion and first undisputed WWE champion. :)

@WCWImpactWrestling Jericho is a 2 time WCW Champion
PivotMakeranimations 6 months ago
@WCWImpactWrestling Just as well he stayed where he was then, because he would only have been back for 2 years before WCW went bust and he would have been in the ill fated Invasion angle.
PeteGas1984 6 months ago
@WCWImpactWrestling This is completely false. Why would he have any regrets not leaving WCW after the way they treated him? Because he would of been on top for a year or so? He went on to have a great run in WWE and still remains in close contact with them, come on now.

@WCWImpactWrestling and undisputed champion?
bobdylan4evr 5 months ago
@WCWImpactWrestling doubt it. nash as the booker wasnt letting anyone become bigger than him. he did everything he could to knock out goldberg as the top dog.
satown2150 5 months ago
@WCWImpactWrestling He would have been an idiot if he stayed in WCW. WCW was on it's way to dying. Jericho accomplished so much in the WWE, winning multiple World titles and becoming a top WWE superstar.
PeterSmeter 5 months ago

@WCWImpactWrestling
ARE YOU KIDDING?
The first guy they set him up against in the WWF was the freaking ROCK.. THE TOP GUY He was fighting lowcarders in the WCW.

Watching this debut made me remember the specific moments in WWF(E) That I just fucking loved, there was no doubt about it. Favorite being Booker T vs Stone Cold in the supermarket. :)

Now Chris Jericho needs to return and win the IC championship and make it worth something!

This really started to bury WCW. Here was a guy who was basically a midcarder with them, and yet was instantly upper card material with WWE because they knew how to build a guy up.
