That catfish is not talking. Its what Fish Experts call 'Barking,' It acutally sounds like a buzzing noise if you listen closely.

Lol, I went to my local fish store... I already had 1 Striped Raphael Catfish and I wanted another... I got one and noticed this very cool looking black catfish with white spots... Then I learned it was a Raphael aswell! So obviously I purchased it along with another Striped... As the guy was taking the Spotted Cat out it was making the same noise... Funniest thing ever, they can breath air too so it doesn't harm the fish in any way, just stresses them out.

i just saw a few of these guys at one of our local pet stores. what size of tank can i harbor one of them in?

I have mine in a 55 gl but i can not see why you could not have them in a tank as little as a 20 lg.

I've heard that they grunt when threatened or when feeding around other talking catfish. We have one, and he never grunts.
