I was there to see that! At first I couldn't believe that I was actually seeing Marlon Brando live in the flesh! This was after I was already shocked at seeing (thru some lent binoculars) a dais with Michael Jackson, Liz Taylor, and McCauley Culkin. Thinking this was a once in a lifetime moment further couldn't believe that he was talking about children being hacked to death or that he was asking for money. This wasn't aired because he was booed off the stage. Unreal

Just looking at this video saddens me deeply! He was trying to say something important, that meant something and nobody gave a shit. Marlon came on stage and took a seat.
He introduced himself by saying "You may be thinking who`s that old fart fart sitting there." He then removed his watch and informed to the teenage audience that "during the last minutes 100 000 children have been hacked to death with a machete".
After that opening, Marlon started to ramble. After five minutes of mumbling he was booed off the stage.

Given that he appear to be repeating himself through this rambling speech, I'd say the audience showed reasonable patience for most of it.

Yeah, they reacted horribly, but I don't think it was such a good idea to have him speak there at that moment. Everyone in that audience was so ready to see Michael Jackson and a bunch of other stars perform. They'd thought about nothing else for days beforehand. Then they go and when they think it's about to happen, they have to sit there and listen to this sad topic from someone who's a legend, yet many people there probably had no clue who he was. Nice thought, wrong time and place though.

I'm so saddened by this as an American. I think it's very important to remember that this was in NYC, just FOUR DAYS before 9/11, and these rude assholes (who all sounded shallow and drunk), who thought they didn't have a care in this world so they didn't care about anyone else's problems,, were about to get a SERIOUS wake-up call. Brando was TRYING to tell them about MJ's generous charity work in children's hospitals and was encouraging them to give,too. These assholes were crying later.
