  • heck no, this is acoustic

  • Pathetic haters!

  • ANY ONE! could somebody tell me what are the measurements for this pickup

  • ...and slow that shit down. it sounds horrible

  • just curious, is this on the neck position or bridge?

  • the 60 has to much bass for stairway. 85 will work better.

  • @zcbensel

Not at all. The 85 has way more output, it's not at all suited for stuff like this. The 60 does just fine, it just needs proper EQ'ing.

  • @zcbensel Lmao, first of all the 85 is the hottest, bassiest and smoothest of all emg pickups, and the emg 60 is the brightest and cleanest, also the 85 is an alnico v magnet and the emg 60 is ceramic.

  • thats a fucking acoustic!!!!!!!

  • @robosvideos Oh no it is not acoustic BUT the recording mic er phone is close to the guitar and picking up the "acoustic sound" especially the pick itself making this no representation of the sound of the pickup. I have intentionally recorded this way to get certain sounds even close miking a solid body . BTW Stairway is a mid 60's Fender 12 string with split pickups. Coincidentally the Emg 60 is internally a split pickup. 1 coil fool low 3 strings one coil for high 3 strings.

  • 0:13 at bit wrong ?

  • Why the hell do you even record a test of a guitar pickup with a cellphone? And then post it to YouTube? Are you some sort of retard?

  • In all honesty, I've tried out about 20 different pairs of EMGs in the same guitar and they sound good, but if you want REALLY good tone, go with a pair of Bare Knuckle Pickups. Bare Knuckles are about 40 dollars more but they are ridiculously better.

  • very poor attempt at this song its just off

  • Improve your timings.......

  • Completely off-time, lol

    Nice tone though ;)

  • i can play stair way to heaven better than him and i use my fingers

  • don't play good songs with EMG pups

    go buy some duncans O . o

  • @alexAENESIDEManders Good thing he's only playing Stairway to Heaven then, eh?

  • @alexAENESIDEManders

True, but EMG's were designed for blues players to get overdrive at low volume studio levels.

  • this seems like an excuse to put a stairway to heaven cover..

cause your horrible at it! lol :b

  • sounds like a acoustic guitar..mine guitar has EMG 81 it has a unique sound at clean setting

  • Its sounds good clean but dirty.. horrible

  • We are not worthy!

  • if anyone knows, where is an 81 best suited? Neck or Bridge? Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • bridge

  • @CutByAngels Bridge mate, and 60s are better at neck.

  • @CutByAngels Bridge.

  • @CutByAngels It depens: to me it's in the bridge, but some argue that it has a too agressive sound, and prefer the 85. It depends on the style you play. It's awesome in metal, but if U play rock and hard rock, choose the 85 in the bridge.

However, in the neck, the emg 81 seems awesome, as you have less noise than with any other pickup. It's what I red in a forum. I hope I could answer your question. I've just bought an emg 81 in the bridge.

  • horrible compression

  • hi. Im confused. Wat does it mean by emg 81/60.? Does it mean 60 at the neck and 81 at the bridge

  • You're right, 81 - bridge, 60 - neck.

  • It means you're a fucking idiot.

  • Any suggestions on a tube amp that works well with active pickups?

  • Engl!!! I own the Savage 120 - works perfectly with EMGs. I also tried Fireball, Powerball and Blackmore - all very good amps. It also depends on the Sound you want and the speakers you use. A cabinet with Celection V30s or Eminence Governors should be perfect for Engl heads + EMG equipped guitars.

  • AMP DOESN'T MATTER. GO DIE.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 Depends on the tone your lookin for. Tell me scooped, chuncky mids, or or heavily overdriven.

  • @Hendrixidol Solid hard rock sound, very little saturation.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 Damn!!! I though I replied dude!!! If ur lookin for little saturation then the 60 is PERFECT!!!

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980

    peavey amps work great aswell

  • We are using a combo of set ups Some guitars are loaded with the81/ 81 Combo some are60/ 81.The EMG60 ,in the neck position. set up affords us a good clean sound but would slightly compromise the lead tone . Now we have gone to a 3 channelKH120 Randall amp we can use the lead channel to get a good lead sound while retaining the EMG60 .However we do use the60 / 81 loaded guitars mainly for songs that have significant clean parts such as "The Day That Never Comes" from Death Magnetic" Justin Crew

  • kirky's mummy 81/81

  • Now he uses 81/60.....Go to the ESP page and look his signature series

  • well that only tells you what it comes with, what he uses is a diffrent thing

  • dude what the fuck thats an acustic

  • its called an acoustic pick up dude.

  • yeah but he is playing an acoustic guitar, you cant make and electric guitar sound exsacly like an acustic. Plus i have a guitar with the 60 and it dose not sound like that

  • acoustic amp.

  • it still wont make an electric guitar sound acustic. For some reson the dude is playing on an acustic thats not and electric and thats not an emg 60

  • your right, but he probly has a different set up than you do. theres alot of things that go into making your sound, Pickups, Amps, Pedals and Effects, whether or not your in a room with good acoustics. Meaning the sound can bounce off the walls.

  • yeah that's true. spouse he could have put an acustic simulator infront of it, but that still dosent make your electric sound exsacly like an acustic. like c'mon do you really think thats is an electric he is playing honsestly.

Ps. i know what acoustics means :p

  • Haha, i wanted to make sure you knew what acoustics means. and yes, it does sound very close to an acoustic guitar. extremely close. plus instead of taking a video of him playing, he put that picture. He prolly is playing an acoustic. but you cant be sure, unless he made this a video of him playing it.

  • yeah well im sure he hase his reasons (what ever the hell they may be) o dude lets writh a angry e-mail :p

  • lol you can just mention my name

  • o okay now i get it you can bitch about it but when it gets down to it you back down :p

  • nah, i just dont see the point in tlaking shit to online, its like someone talks shit to you on youtube, now come say it to my face. theres no point in talking like that online. it doesnt get you anywhere, it doesnt make you cool.

  • dude chill out i was joking, yeah i agree with you on that, but i ment it as a joke, sorry bro

  • nah man, i think you read it wrong. that was my bad.

  • a well nobody's perfect. Peace n love bro :P

  • thats the only thing i need. haha

  • Hellyeah

  • is it me or does anyone else agree that if god came down from heaven he would totaly have stairway playing from a giant marshall stack. not even because it has heaven in the title but because its just the greatest song

  • to bad 'god' doesnt exist

  • ik im on ur side on that one im just saying it be epic

  • @KvSwooo omgomg epic win.. thank you haha.. youtube lacks my fellow atheists!

  • I think saying EMGs are good for metal and Seymour Duncans are good for clean parts is a bit silly. They're both good at either if you set up your rig right.

But even if you don't, both excel at different types of "clean." EMGs have that crystal clarity and passive Duncans utilize the wood tone. It's all you after that.

  • thats acoustic no way thats the 60.

  • yeah it's totally his fault for not being jimmy page. God damn his soul to hell.

  • You are an idiot. The emg 60 is one of the best sounding pickups for playing clean stuff like this. Metallica has used them for years in classics like fade to black and nothing else matters.

Sorry for beeing offensive also; I really felt the need to shit all over you. <3

  • They used acoustics for those songs in the studio. They just use that because it's more accesible. And Kirk uses 81/81

  • I'm pretty sure they did not.

Anyway; that doesn't even matter; live they (James) uses the emg 60 for the clean tones which sounds perfectly.

Kirk indeed has 2 81's, which shows even an 81 could produce some good clean tones. James does most of the clean parts though, that's why he prefers a 60.

  • kirk uses 85/81

  • Lol he uses 81&81 set.

  • @Behindspace90 fade to black was played on gibson pups (on studio version) like 95% of songs from the 3 first albums of metallica. They start using ESP guitars and EMG pups with justice.

  • Well that just still doesn't change the fact that the emg's 60 can sounds very nicely clean.

When playing live, they still use the 60's, which sound perfectly also. :-)

  • my squier sounds better... =P

  • You Should Be Able To Get It In it Just Comes With A Pick Guard I Think Its All Three Pickups in it For Like 200 Bucks

  • yeah but might need a differnt pickgaurd

  • hey can i install these emg pick ups in my fender squier?? pls reply....

  • Yes you can im thinking of doing it too. You can put emg in whatever guitar you want from ESP to some chinese shit and it still will sound good

  • emgs suck for cleans but shred there heaven emg lovers dont take this personal.

  • can i install emg pick ups in fender squier?

  • yeah im looking at a esp m1001 one comes with emgs and the other comes with seymour duncans.i dont know what i should buy beacuse i like playing some clean stuff once in a while what should i do.

  • I would go with your personal preference. I'm more of a passive guy, but then again I play a lot more rock than metal. As for the idiot who gave me a thumbs down on my above comment, I'm entitled to my own opinion! If everyone liked the same tone, there would only be one type of pickup!

  • @mario4526 i wouldn't say emgs are better for metal...but yes they aren't particularly good for clean...GET THE DUNCANS!

  • i dont know dude right now im looking into a ibanez mtm1 most of the time im shredding and playing metal soo i dont care for the clean sound as much anymore but thanks for the help....

  • emgs are for metal idd pure dist but the emg 60 is one that can play clean too :P tho seymour is the best for clean i think but i also think that 60 is rly good for clean

  • everyone knows...u don't use a pick wen u play Stairway To Heaven...it sounds horrible wen u do...

  • @maljr0743 actually the original is chicken picked

  • @maljr0743 i believe Led Zepellin did in fact use hybrid picking on this song in fact so if you want it to sound like the record or them live you should in fact play the lower line with your pick

  • dude your kinda playing stairway to heaven wrong, by using a pick its making the notes louder and if you do choose to use a pick dont pick as hard you kinda want it to be as close to the original

  • yo, is there anyway to put emg active pickups into an epiphone explorer?

  • yeah there is, the only thing u need is a big enough space within the guitar for a 9 volt battery to go into, in les pauls theres jsut enough space within the tone pot witch u can get access to from the back of the guitar if u have space for it on ur explorer by all means get one haha, i would recomend you to take it in somewhere if this is your first time switching out pickups and watch them so u know what to do next time

  • sweet. thanks heaps ,man

  • Comment removed

  • dont play with pick, play it with fingers

  • yeah agree

  • ya, stairway intro + pick = harder to play and horrible sound...

  • You can use a pick, but its needs to be a very floppy one, like a 30mm or something

  • Dude stairway to heaven solo rhythm doesn't chunk like that i ve heard lots of people doing it but its wrong!

  • Turn yourself up, dude.

  • NO STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN PLAYING ALLOWED!

    lolol

  • STAIRWAY DENIED!!!

  • This is a No Stairway Zone

  • @ScorchinBeats no, it's: no stairway?!? denied!!

  • @omgih8you Wayne's World ftw

  • @ScorchinBeats denied......

  • good combo is emg 81 with demarzio super distortion

  • arent both of those designed for bridge position? lol

  • good combo.... i have a paf pro and superdistorion and i switched it out with a emg 81 that was on my esp so its good

  • You bbeter not mix active pickups with passive ones.

  • nooo i switched the pick ups with my other guitar and they still sound amazing...

  • Hey dude aren't dimarzio super distortion passives? So how could you combine them with emg?Therre's a lot of trouble when combining passive with active pups!

  • that'd be fucking stupid.

  • stair way all the way nice video. 5 stars

  • dude emg 60 and 81s are the best. metallica style!

  • Damn u fuckin suck!!

  • NO STAIRWAY lololololololol

  • i like the 60 over 85 the 85 sounds ot fat

    (in my liking)

  • is the 60 more trebble than the 85 ?

  • no stairway? DENIED

     lol

  • @dorklord101 Wayne's World! Wayne's World! Party Time! Excellent! \m/

  • NO STAIRWAY!!!!!!

  • I hate how everyone thinks that the 85 is so much better. I dont think it is at all, i like the 60 way better thats why i bought it instead of th 85

  • Stairway to Heaven dumbass, sorry thats a bit harsh

  • which one is better 81(B) wid 60(N)

    or 81(B) wid 89(N)

  • I wouldn't put an 81 and 89 together, you'd get too much frequency difference between the two, the 89 has far mroe output than the 81, if you want to use the 81 put the 85 in the bridge or the the 85 in the neck and the 89 in the bridge, but i prefer the sound of the 81 and 60

  • Sounds too much like an acoustic - you SURE this is in an explorer?

  • Good Recording Bad Guitar...

I think your good but you got off Rythym Bad ...Ohwell..Good Try...I think i need to re consider on buying EMG 60s though

  • Personally, I love the clean EMG sound.

  • what would be better

    an 81 and 85?

    or an 81 and a 60?

  • i would get the 81 and 60, because the 81-85 is like more of a metal only combo(own opinion) with the 60 u can play some less metal stuff or even a full clean tone song. (not that its impossible with the 85 but i just sounds different)

  • 81/85 is at least good for Jazz as well as for Metal...deceide yourself

  • 81/85. It sounds good clean. Amazing for metal

  • Actually i was not able to test them clean uner good conditions cause my good amp is in our practise-room and at home i have just a shitty small amp with a blown speaker...sounds good distorted and crunched but totally clean the blown speaker distorts it again...but i guess itll be fine

  • What phone have you got?

Cause i'm gonna mug it off you XD

  • actually, the emg 60 is suppose to sound heavier and a little dirty, the 85 is recomended for cleans, depends on how good your amp is too, and if you really want emg's to shine, do the 18volt mod, its beyond simple and increases the tone to its true performance

  • Sorry bro, the 85 has the most output of the two. The 60 was designed to be their mid outpup pup for fender's Tele Custom(?). Of course it is a beefier sound and distorted is killer, but it's geared toward the clean/neck position on a guitar... the 85 sounds great in the neck and bridge.

  • sounds like detuned strings?

  • your phone does some pretty good recording :)

  • dude I fuckin won one of these.

    they are fuckin great!

  • really great EMG !

  • bridge position?

  • no. it is in neck position

  • ohh, thanks man

  • bridge position emg 60? come on now

  • There are people who use the 60 in the bridge...

  • That will sound as shit as Slipknot...

  • Have you tried it? Didn't think so. It sounds fine, as long as your amp, etc are set up for it.

  • No i wont screw up my guitar just to try something....sorry;)

  • If your guitar is already set up for emg's, there's nothing to it. Its just a matter of switching the pickups around, and they come with the quick connect connectors so its not like you'd even have to solder the wires. In no way, shape, or form would it screw up your guitar. Just correcting you =)

  • its a great one. sounds fat and great.

  • fat? rather not they are flat, highly compressed, trebly and narrow responsive.

  • compressed yes. fat they are. and loud as SHIT alot more genral output then the 85. narrow responsive maybe. flat nah. but NOT trebly.

  • i heared it one more time, yes it would be more mids, but they are somewhat bright hard to explain... don't like them anyway like any other emgs ;P

  • uh, an 18 volt mod fixes the compressed sound

  • I love EMG pups. Fantastic. Everyone says they have no tone, or that they're sterile. I disagree. This is a very warm, fat pickup.

  • That's cause its the '60 :p The '60 is surprisingly good for cleans when in the neck position, especially for being an active EMG.

  • wrong o!

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing.

  • thanks

  • nice man

  • what guitar is the pickup on? amazing playing by the way

  • it is in my explorer. check my other videos

  • what mobile phone you use

  • nokia 6120

  • YEAh nice. great playin.
