@arx7893 Yes. I haven't had success with it. It crashes on me, both with a soundfont I've tried and another one. It might just be my computer, though.
The file is intact(I do not delete it unless asked to do), but for some reason I cannot download it either(the other files can be downloaded). Maybe I'd make another mirror in case..........

TWSynth. Although it wasn't updated over a year, but the last stable version of timidity++ was released over 5 years ago, so I think it's pretty done(though CVS trunk is still out). You can download TWSynth at linked site(read description), and install it is quite easy.

The AWE soundfont included has vocal. The custom soundfont I used was separated soundfonts merged into one file(along with modified midi data).

FF8 uses DLS, IIRC. So I wouldn't know if changing MIDI module or soundfont can affect it(you may need to build new DLS).
