2. you need to keep the laptop on all day (electrical bill)

2.b if you don't want the laptop on all day, you have to run and answer the skype chat invitation, which is useless because from there you can already see who is at the door.

it costs a laptop and... another laptop plus the electricity bill and if you're likely to be bothered by a burglar he/she would break your pretty window and take the laptop.

You can set skype to answer video call automatically. It's a wast of internet traffic. Get an IP camera. it's much cheaper than a laptop.

Guys, u can use a laptop WITH an external camera that can connect to your computer. U also can use: An Iphone, a blackberry, what ever has a camera and skype. I will make a better tutorial. :)

Ok, wait a minute here... Your surveillance system actually costs the price of the LAPTOP, because if the laptop IS the camera then you kinda need it. Second, why would you use Skype? There are a TON of other streaming programs that DON'T need you to go to the "camera", let's face it you're not gonna leave skype running 24/7. This is the WORST way to setup surveillance in your home. I used an old 700MHZ desktop, free webcam software, and a $15 webcam, with better results... LOL

@electricalbannanas No need, there are quite enough of these tutorials on YouTube already. Just search for them. My software preference, however, is a little program called Digi-Watcher since it can run on even a junk PC and has a TON of features including remote access and automatic FTP/E-Mail

Thank for information. Keep the good work nice video. I am 47 yrs, I m scare to open the door or peak thru the window. I do have a camera, but I am learning about security systems I got frustrated of people braking to my home, getting thru my car and steal my stuff. One day, one man came and he force the door, I was inside in the kitchen. At least the camera helps to alert you if there is someone around.
