  • Such a great song,as was a high number of records from the 70s.Shame we cant say that for today to oten.I love music but its going down in quality very fast with the type that is always given air play.

  • What a fantastic blast from the past, a great song..........and what a beautiful lady Kit Hain is.

  • Wonderful number, beautiful authentic Seventies video

    many thanks for uploading !

  • For one moment there at the begining, i thought that was bobby conn, come to think of it i wish it was would certainly be better then this shit.

  • way before their time, brilliant......

  • @Skyeskimmer ahh hell m8 u misunderstood me i was just curious about the hat is all , i love the music & YES she is a beautifull lady, but how many ladies in the 70's wore hats on music stage

  • @holdenboy1960 Abba,Brotherhood of Man,Chic, the list goes on,hats like everything else was a popular fashion accessory in the 70`s,much like the baseball cap in the men later, some suit, some dont and IMO Kit wears it well!!

  • had any 1 noticed that Kit had either a lazy left eye or had been hit in it prior the the stage singing , but still a wonderfull lady & singer ,even though it loked good on her . what was with the hat ??

  • @holdenboy1960 Have you ever seen anyone else where a hat?,my whats with all that!! Kit`s a beautiful woman,a hat is a fashion accessory and she wore it well.. Enjoy the song with out being picky man!!

  • Dancing in the city - Marshall Hain I thought - Produced by Chris Neil?.

  • Marshall- Hain should have a real hit here in the USA. It did get played for a short time on the highly rated 62 KGW for a time in early 1979.

  • wow ! This brings back memories !!

    Thanks for the post !

  • Has it been that long??Hamburg 1978 and I couldn`t get enough of this type of music!!Guess I am an ol` fart after all!!

  • love this era of music , i have a lot of records or vinyl's as some know them as of the seventies era

  • Yeh Im glad I was born in 64...I have experienced real music...I feel for the teens today...it aint music

  • @kiwideathwizard Those kids of today and their loud music! Put your slippers on and get that mug of hot cocoa grandpa.

  • The lyrics are right out of my garden!

  • Ein wunderbares Lied !

    Fazit: Hinhören und aufdrehen !!

  • ashes to ashes series 1 episode 7. love this song :)

  • always liked this song never took much notice of the lyrics, great and very uplifting.

  • remember this....brill

  • I remember this like yesterday playing at at a school disco in 1978....memories

  • As they're miming, she does really well to synchronize all the claps correctly except one! Very clever song.

  • You all remind me of a line from another song: "The good old days weren't always good, and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems". Only the good things, and good music, from '78 stands out now. The crap -- and there was plenty of it -- has been forgotten.

  • @magpiesx5 Of course there is always inferior music in every era .However most people, including myself , would say that most of the best songs and charts( singles and albums) were from the 60,s , 70,s and early 80,s.

  • If do have a time machine, its called a bottle of Bacardi Gold and memories, wanna ride.

  • if i had a time machine i would travel back in time and shag that

  • fantastic brilliant 1970,s

  • @The Humbuckerboy....you SO have to be my age!

  • sublime

  • SOME NIFTY DRUMMING

  • Megahammer!!Absoluter Klassiker!

  • Handclap heaven. Takes me back to the early summer of 1978. Terrific soulful delivery and production. Love this record.

  • Excellent song, totally agree with Davewise. I am 45 and remember the late 70's and 80's well. Exceptional songs with unique melodies. Like this classic!

  • @MsMantous Too right, people seemed a lot more easy going in the 70's. I remember those days like it was five minutes ago. I know it's an old saying that is used too often but I can't help saying that the 70's were the best days of my life.

  • very true dave, I was born in 59 and had my prime years in the 70's and 80's, have passed this onto my 3 daughters, they can really appreciate the core of good music.

  • @petere1959 This was when music was good. Music now is a horrible noise done by people with no talent at all. The 70's were the best days of my life.

  • I remember these days well as a kid, great times.

Don't remember people running through alleys though, when they danced in cities...

  • great tune for a nice saucy fuck with a girl

  • what innocent days they were...slowly it all disappeared

  • @GriefTourist so true :(

  • nice tits

  • suspicious wide septum look

  • One of the iconic songs of the 70s. Kit Hain's voice is soooo sexy! Had a crush on Kit, Judy Tzuke and Annie Haslam from Renaissance.

  • Lying in bed, tranny radio tuned to Radio Luxembourg, 208 medium wave AM ... happy days!

  • Summer Hatfield Borstal 1978, Lashings of ginger beer and jam sarnies, thanking you m,lud.

  • I so agree with the top two comments. Where the hell did it all go wrong?

  • Hey "crocfme", you took the words right out of my mouth.

  • unvergesslich - einfach schön !!

  • After careful consideration, I would like to hang out the back of her. However I do not want her bearded mong brother banging on the door or looking through the window.

  • I've always liked this song but never knew it was sung by Mick Jagger.

  • everyone knew what was in the charts and number one back then, the radio was full of great new songs, we thought it would last forever...if music is a barometer of life itself it says a lot!

  • This song gives me the "warm fuzzies".

  • im staying in 1972

  • I loved this era the sound the style the lot

  • @siasti the song that you mention (Hot Child in the City ) by nick Gilder never charted in the UK but I will check it out on Utube !

  • Oh God, I love and hate listening to this music- love it because it's so brilliant, and hate it because it reminds me that I wasn't around when this stuff was happening. I would do anything to be living through these years, anything at all. Damn you 1995! :(

  • They talk about genre differation now in music. I wonder if they include natural and unboosted as this is. as opposed to the crap of today. Just wondering?

  • My teens and early 20s were spent in the 70s and I just love that era for its comparative innocence, But, I just love Ibiza dance music

I think that music was so much less pretencious then? it was all about fun and friviolity?

  • love this song marshall hain your an angel

  • I agree the 70's were the best decade,a far cry from the thrash we have today.

  • Why does every f***ing comment on YouTube have to be by some whingeing old duffer banging on about the good old days. Get over it already.

  • @20thCB But it's true pal....get over that!

  • @20thCB I remember when I was 7 years old and had to work 14 hours a day down a coal mine. Still, great days though!

  • Good grief - I've liked this for 33 years and only now do I find out that Marshall Hain is (are?) two people,

  • I cant' imagine the youth today having wonderful memories backed up by: Beiber, Gaga, 2 Pac & Co. At least we had what was music and not gang related, synthasized made to sell garble.

  • How beautiful is she without really trying.

  • 'Run For Home 'by Lindisfarne ,'Airport' by Motors ,'Substitute' by Clout ,'5705' by City Boy and this marvellous song by Marshall Hain all bring back wonderful childhood memories of a particular summer holiday in The Isle Of Man.The summer of '78 was a brilliant time for chart music !

  • @TheHumbuckerboy Don't forget "Hot Child in the City" by Nick Gilder.

  • @siasti The song that you have mentioned (Hot Child in the City ) by Nick Gilder never charted here in the UK;perhaps it was never even released here .I will get around to checking it out on Utube at some stage .

  • @TheHumbuckerboy Yes, I see that is so. I first heard it on the radio in New Zealand so it must have got some airplay in the UK but who knows...

  • @TheHumbuckerboy Yes they were all fab records. 1978 was a great year for pop music.

  • @TheHumbuckerboy Great summer, great memories, no responsibilities - oh boy.

  • @doddy2010 Agreed !

  • @doddy2010 Yep; they don't make them like this anymore!

  • Memories of Shuffles in Glasgow,

    Brilliant

  • We were spoiled with great music in the 70's! Bowie, Roxy, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Queen, The Faces, Pistols, Clash, Elvis Costello, Iain Dury, Springsteen, Lennon, the list goes on & on. I remember waking up to DLT playing this song on Radio 1 one sunny morning. Everytime I hear it I am transported back to Park Royal, London1978 & that morning. Strange how music does that!

  • @HaraldH62 meins auch

  • Zooo lekkerrrrrr!!

  • crocfme I couldnt agree more, a great decade to be a teenager. No AIDS, long hair and bell bottoms and the Bee Gees were cool

  • Wow! Janius! That really is a "lost" classic! Nice one!

  • I was born in 1965 so I am 45 years old now. It was great being a kid in the 1970's. I remember all of these great 1970's songs like they were on five minutes ago. The world was a much better place then.

  • @Davewise1965 Oh how right you are. Music was fantastic then. I was born 1962.

  • @sapper786 Music sure was good then.

  • @Davewise1965 I am agree with you i was in 1960 I'm 50 years and i remember those days like the best years of my life the scholl the girls the disco the dance thanks for sharing this kind of coments i'm Mexican but the music is universal regards

  • @sanger717 Thanks for your reply. The best music is from the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. I agree that the School years were great fun. Todays music is rubbish.

  • @Davewise1965 Same here. Watching stuff like this on Youtube is like being in a time machine. I need escapism more than ever these days because the world today is absolutely crap. I go back to my childhood as often as I can.

  • @whitbyjet65 I was born in 1947, so I'm 64 now, but I really wouldn't want to be young in today's world. However, I really enjoy my life as it is. All the same,1978 was the beginning of a particularly good patch. I agree there's much pleasure in nostalgia but it's not good escapism. I hope you'll begin to enjoy your life more and I wish you peace and well-being. Good energy will come your way soon.

  • @gnomely1 Well thanks for your concern but at the age of 46, I think I'm old enough to decide what's good escapism for me & what isn't. If I ever need you to make decisions for me, I'll be in touch but if you don't hear from me, you can safely assume I've made them myself. Kind regards.

  • @gnomely1 - Your advice to 'whibyjet65' was spot on but people like that don't want to make their lives better, they just like to complain.

  • @whitbyjet65 I couldn't agree with you more and cos I don't do drugs it's down to music

  • @Davewise1965 Yeah you're right man...I was born...1967....the best time and music was in the 70's and 80's...i'm sorry for the teenagers these day's for what a horroble music they have these times....

  • @Davewise1965 Yeah it was

  • @JollyFisherman65 Definitely.

  • @Davewise1965 WELL SAID MY FREIND.

  • @Davewise1965 Yeah me as well. 1965 was THE year.

  • @slurpos Too right.

  • @Davewise1965 you speak the truth my man....

  • @Davewise1965 You're right Dave, I was born at the end of 62 and I'm 48. It was great being 15 for most of 1978 ; still in school, great music including all the Punk Rock, ABBA, Bee Gees, Gerry Rafferty, Elvis Costello, Blondie, Boomtown Rats, Stranglers etc etc. AND a World Cup !!. 2011 is complete shit and misery. The world is dark, bleak and controlled by banks, non caring politicians and utilities companies !. Best wishes to you though

  • @TheKenfig I know exactly what you are saying and I totally agree. Thanks for your reply.

  • @TheKenfig I agree with you and Dave 19 yrs in 78 thought I had the world at my feet , after a lot of bad health and savings draining away trying to kick start again but it ain't just happening. Christ who would have thought it would be like this...... Youtube brings back so many good memories. love it.

  • @kew4612 Yes, you have my sympathies too. But hang in there. 1978 WAS definitely a MUCH better time for sure, when anyone could 'walk in' to a job any day of the week and then just get another if they didn't like it. With 5 O'levels you could get a crackin' job, now you just can't get anything with a degree cos they've been shoving EVERYONE off to 'Uni' which they've mad it easy to go to though there are no jobs anymore for all the graduates !.The world has been messed up by idiots ! Best wishes

  • @TheKenfig Ok as a father of a 15 and 17 year old I take issue with youon just how easy it actually is .a total debt of around 80k for the 2 of them if they graduate not to mention incurrent debt of many 1000s along the way mostly paid for by the parents.I left school in 1978 there were few jobs ,I worked for 20 quid a week on a YOP scheme gave 15 in for my keep and had a fiver for 40 hours hard graft on a freezing building site, this eutopia you seem to imagine did not exist for me

  • @Baggins412 The issue is places like Pommyland and the US, people living way beyond their means, appalling economic management, greed by private equity parasites and bankers, and treason in sending manufacturing jobs to the corrupt communist Chinese. You don't make anything - your skills are gone, your capital equipment is gone, and so is good government. You are screwed, the horse has bolted and things will only get worse unless there is a revolution. You need a Margaret Thatcher for starters.

  • Yep I can't agree anymore, life was simplier, happier, safer and great. I'm so glad to have been a kid in the 70's...

  • @reddolphin65 I agree, the world was a much better place in the 1970's. I am 45.

  • still sexy but,codeye lol

  • For A Long Time Ago,Many Great Hits was in the Charts. These Song will Played in A Party Today, and the People Rocking. This Is Great and Funny Music from the 70.Great Song and Great Memory from my Life.Thank you Very, very Much for Posting.

  • I heard this on the radio today. I remember it from 1978 and had not heard it since and so here i am. Good catchy, happy sound

  • after coming off second best against Jack Bodell one too many times, she lay down the gloves and scored a pop hit with what you're watching now,

    right now

  • sympa comme musique

  • i love her,bit codeye but good song innocent

  • she went off and married a sheik and did that song "you've never been to me" a little bit later

  • Da kommen sehr gute Erinnerungen zurück. Super Zeit und ein tolles Lied. Schade das alles vorbei ist.

  • Marshall Hain was the name Sally Geeson assumed after fleeing the seventies sitcom Bless This House and starting this pop career

  • it was fantastic but hey I still feel gutted that the beatles were slightly before me

  • shes beautiful!!!!!!

  • they'll be playing this at my funeral

  • I love you mARSHALL.!!!!.......or is it Hain, I can never tell

  • All these years and I never knew that they were German...Pop quiz: who were the first German act to have a major worldwide hit?

  • I was born in '89 so i missed a great deal of awesome music! Now a days some songs have a great melody but the lyrics suck! *sigh* music is dead

  • So Jol Sol!...LOVE it!

  • Before MTV there was MusikLaden!

  • if she only would have take a bit more time for a nice dress

  • Except for - say - the Vietnam War, Cambodia (Pol Pot), race riots in US and the Uganda (e.g E. Amin).

  • Kit Hain = GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Try to clap at the same time as she does with the music. This is a real challenge.

  • This is a fantastic song. How come they didn't have any major hits after this one?

  • @fatpizzaman The evidence is before you.

  • Comment removed

  • Nautic sound Nautic disco 1978 Steinbergen, die damals dabei waren

    werden es wissen ;-)

  • she is a babe a well as sounding great

  • @twistedevilclown now that you mention it shes not bad lookin mate

  • This song is still superb

  • am hooked on this track and especially the video so thanks for this.

kit hain has such poise and presence - she's so natural in front of the camera and a great looker too! very direct gaze and hardly seems to blink if thats what 'cod eye' is? brilliant music

  • Good old times.. going out with the girl.. to the city...listen to this song.... blasting on the Pioneer tape deck in the old Dutsun... that was fun.. all the fun we need..

  • Great Stuff

  • 70s rule

  • She has cod eye! Sign of a great person, sign of honesty, good fighter, but also a sign of little or no diplomacy. Take it from student of human chemicals and combinations.

  • Amen hooplemott!! ahhh those were the fun times :))

  • 60's 70;s 80's. all great music!!!!!. Yes we still have some great songs these days but they are few are far bewtween when compared to the mentioned past era's

  • They call the 70s "The decade that style forgot"; I call them "The decade before the world turned to shit.".

  • @crocfme i completly agree.it was the best decade

  • @crocfme top stuff i totally agree yer

  • @crocfme mmm yep and stopped striking!

  • @crocfme true

  • she got cod eye but great tune lol

  • I had a real life in THE SEVENTIES,,,not the bs now,and that includes the so called music of today....and I will dance in the city...thanks fritz.. for the memory..

  • I thought Marshal Hain was black ? Sht my tv picture must have been very bad back then !

  • @stellaviolens kit and julian definitely white lol

  • Everything was great in the seventies

    Everything is shit now.

  • Takes me right back to being a student in Cardiff

  • hands up if we could return to 70 music what your view thanks for sharing this classic

  • @multi1606 LETS GO

  • 78 was the year I got married and this song captures the feeling of the time , wish it was 1978 again !

  • Im 31 and even I think music from the 60's and 70's is much better than todays. Too much rap, r&b, hip hop crap that all sounds the same these days. You can't dance to it unless you're off your face on some narcotic. Put the oldies on and the dace floor is flooded, put hip hop or rap on and the dance floor empties. Unless your a chav dressed in Burberry wearing more gold than Mr T or a black drug dealer who wears his trousers virtually round his knee caps.

  • Another "Silcocks Fair" classic!! for those that don't know,Silcocks Fair was a travelling fair that had it's heyday in the 70s and early 80s,and played all the hits of that era - Days of yore.

  • omg i love these songs

  • I was 13 when this song came out in 1978. I love the way the song is put together and the way it is sung. Great song. Todays music is a tuneless toneless load of rubbish done by people with less talent than a goldfish. Long live the 1970's

  • Mabe gentler for you but i was in northern ireland...nothing gentle about that ..

  • in the seventies, pop music was to entertain, punk, country, soul and comedy etc all in one chart, something for everyone and music to suit all occasions, the music business is far too up itself today....

  • Oh, it's a bird! For a moment there, thought that was Laurence Llewlyn-Bowen on lead vocals!
