Tuna's are SOOO powerful ....its insane i caught a baby tuna yesterday and that alone put up a fight i imagine this took a few hours to accomplish ..props to this man
Anybody that says that spearfishing is not a suitable method for fishing is an idiot , commercial " net " fishing is to blame period .....there were 100,000 of people spear fishing this eco-system for thousands of years ..... with no problem ... If you wanna help the planet stop buying destructive consumer goods and grow your own food ....
For anyone that doubts that was a paralyzing first shot, let me tell you that i have been spearfishing for more than 30 yrs. and i can tell you that i have taken many large fish of all types and if you hit that sweet spot, some fish will just quiver, some get frozen in a 90deg. bend and some are only able to move their eyeballs. Of course we all know what happens with a misplaced shot. practice makes perfect. Good Hunting.
@Zammis007 hahaha for all the guys that doubt that you know they dont know what there doing or yet have spearfished on seen the ocean all it takes it one stone shot anyway good luck diving my friend
I love this video, song, and fishing practice but after a dozen views I still feel the tuna was caught on a hook and line and the fisherperson went down there and give it a killer shot, no doubt, but probably unnecessary, the fish was already caught.
Was that seriously a kill shot on the tuna or was the chase not recorded? Absolutely incredible! Ive been spearfishing for 12 years and have finally got a camera hooked up to my gun....great showing others a glimpse of the underwater world and spearfishing within it.
Spearfising is the cleanest form of fishing going, everything we take in we bring back out with us, no excess waste eg lost line, floats and general litter. We also have the ability to select what fish we want and make sure its of size before we shoot.
There's no point in lying. It's very obvious that you're not a fisherman. The majority of catch and release fisherman don't do it right, in which case 43% of released fish die within 6 days if not handled properly. This man should be an ambassador for sustainable fishing. If everyone fished like him, the issue of declining fish stocks wouldn't exist. Surely you agree with that, but then I'm thinking you won't.
@scoliva I am actually a fisherman. A sustainable fisherman. The statistics of catch and release fishing could be argued all day; deep water fish have a 60% mortality rate while shallow water fish (such as rockfish) have less than a 10% mortality. Properly handling fish and using the proper equipment greatly increases their chances of survival. The fact that you are purposely avoiding is the status of the bluefin tuna...
@TheConormac1 the problem isn't so much the number of fish that are fished, but the way they are fished: if you fish a great quantity of fish, but each time its without capturing ENTIRE schools of fish (is this how you say like a pack of fish? I'm not too sure, I'm french) then you're endangered species problem is at least mostly resolved because the schools of fish regenarate in a generally short lapsus of time.
@pmtad You are right, it is schools of fish. I am not necessarily against spearfishing; I hope to spearfish invasive lionfish sometime in the future. Spearfishing is sustainable in some cases because you can selectively catch fish. My problem with this video concerns the threatened bluefin tuna displayed in this video. Most people understand that the industrial methods of fishing are more destructive than spearfishing. However, spearfishing amounts for a significant..
@pmtad significant number of dead threatened fish per year. 90% of big fish have already been fished out of the ocean (natgeo). And yet marlin, grouper and tuna are all on the list of many spear fishermen, as proven by numerous youtube videos. One mature bluefin tuna can produce over 3 million eggs. Every big fish counts toward the recovery of the overfished stocks. If spear fishermen considered sustainable fishing, there would be more, larger fish and a healthier stock.
@fattommy16 I'm the idiot?! My point is that bluefin tuna are overfished and that people need to stop taking the larger predators in our ocean. Just like the buffalo and many species in Africa, the tuna, marlin and sharks are being hunted to endangerment. It is not unreasonable or idiotic at all to disapprove of videos showing people killing large red list animals. It's not that I don't like all spearfishing; I abhor spearfishing some of the largest, most amazing creatures in our ocean.
@scoliva The bluefin tuna is a threatened (destined to be endangered without immediate action) species that is attacked by many fronts. The killing of a large bluefin tuna was undeniably unsustainable. If he was spearfishing a sustainable stock of fish, I would have little problem with the video. There is no point on lying; there is no way to sustainably fish bluefin tuna.
Please explain to us how a bluefin is a "threatened animal"?? Sorry I do not understand as there is a ton of them here off our coast in the Fall/Winter? I wish they were threatened! They are nothing but swimming vacuum cleaners eating everything in sight. not a croaker left on the beach after they pass through.
Sir that is an awesome video! @38 I hope to get into spearfishing this yr - though I do not expect to try anything such as this - maybe a mahi or something easy.
@Jake73B 90% of all big fishes have been removed from the ocean. The Atlantic Bluefin is critically endangered and the Pacific Bluefin is threatened. All over the Mediterranean, fishermen are losing jobs because of the declining market. The vast majority of scientists agree that a temporary ban on tuna is necessary for the stocks to recover, but Japan and small countries prevent essential legislation to be passed.
@barnns11 HAH - "burn in a grease fire!" if you knew my line of work you would get a good laugh also. I love it! good job, keep up the good work!, Soon you will graduate out of third grade. WOW ~ and just think when you grow up you will make intelligible comments. Man that will be so cool!
@TheConormac1 A guy swims down 50 or 60 feet into a ball-shrinkingly cold Tasman Sea and shoots a spear through a 282kg fish. Hardly an efficient method for eradicating a species.
@scoliva The practice of spearfishing, among other fishing methods, threatens the bluefin tuna. People should not be shooting an animal that has been overfished for 40 years and reduced to a third of its 1970 population. With 90% of big fish removed from the ocean, it is the responsibility of spearfishermen (among others) to stop the killing of top predators. This video is a testament to the lack of motivation among fishermen to change that behavior of killing.
@TheConormac1 I don't know where you're from and what rubbish information they feed you over there. But here in New Zealand, we have a huge fishing culture -over 30% of the population take part in recreational fishing. The understanding and appreciation we have for our most precious resource gives us the right to catch a fish when we want to. New Zealand's West Coast has more bluefin tuna than it does people. So if you don't like killing fish, then don't look it up youtube sicko.
@scoliva I think the only rubbish on this webpage are the dumb comments and the video itself. Recreational fishing in New Zealand is sustainable for the most part. However, there is only one stock of bluefin tuna in the pacific, so it does not matter if New Zealand is sustainable, other countries overfish the one stock and the tuna suffers. There is nothing sustainable about the overfishing of the bluefin tuna.
@scoliva I look this stuff up on youtube so I can make people aware that the actions these people took damaged the environment. I support catch and release fishermen who at least attempt to have fun and be environmentally conscious. Deny it or not what this person did was damaging to the environment. Killing that animal should not be considered an accomplishment, it should be seen as an ignorant activity that deprives future generations of these amazing fish...
@scoliva ... If he fished animals sustainably, I have no problem. However, he did not and should be castigated for his actions. I am a fisherman myself and can fish sustainably, so can he.
Where in New Zealand is that? What is the best place to go spearfishing in NZ? Also where can you buy or rent spearfishing gear? I might have a trip down there and would love to go spearfishing there!
listen I'm an avid spearfisher but why did you kill that huge tuna I mean why kill such a giant let him spread that monsterous gene Example:out at Catalina Island I could of shot a 25lb sheephead but i didnt so i settled for a 10lb now he probly has many babys out there that can grow to that size
@almostalways803 thats the dumbest shit i ever heard ...why go for the smaller fish ? why give up and opportunity to shoot one that big so it can spread that could be a once in a life time chance to get a fish that big for people ....go big or go home your not true spearo catchin baby fish in your canal you fool
Which part of NZ is this? I have trip down there in a couple of months, are there charters that take you out spearfishing? Would be great to try out some spearfishing while there!
This is the only spearfishing vid I have watched on here where the fish dont struggle, yet these are the biggest I have seen speared. Ive seen 2 lb walleye struggle more. By the way electricity works very well for subdueing fish in water, its how every game commision surveys fish in freshwater and is in fact not dangerous at all, the drop a radio in the lake kills everything myth comes from little kid cartoons.
correct me if im wrong but i dont think that trawler was fishing for the bluefin? I have a dvd where they go out off new zealand and look for these trawlers that catch Hokey? whatever they're called, and the tuna feed off the scrap the trawler throws out
dam the fishing trawlers. it should be an international law that you can only catch fish by spearing or from a line when that happens the world will truly be a good place
I guess u guys used electricity. Wires on your guns were electrified. Otherwise, this tuna would drown you. Electrified gun, just a bit more powerful can kill great white in the same way. Tuna was paralyzed. But why did u make several more shots? 2 headshots would b enough to take it off. And body shots just spoil a few kg of meat. Still, very nice catch. What guns did u use? Was it RA Railgun?
Let me just say I do spearfish and I love the sport but I think we do have a responsibility to target species that arent on the endagered list. Just a thought.
@richardturner01 thats true bluefins are endangered but if these guys didnt kill it the trawler would have got him so in my mind i would rather have the little guy score a fish that he will really appreciate rather than having another tuna be caught just for money for some sushi corporation
its funny reading comments such as "fish that doesnt fight" "spear a fish like a great white"..lol nice video btw, tuna is one of the best tasting fish..wow..yummy.
ridiculously awesome! when he got next to it in the water i was like. thats a big puppy. much props. im not a poser. i could only wish i could get enough courage to do that atleast once. and yes, i would not waste, i eat and share. that electric cord stuns em eh! nice! wondering why it didnt shoot away after the hit. i wish i could swim like that. even if i didnt catch anything that must of been exciting.
Fishing with a spear, many other men and against a fish that would not attack a human. You guys are Chicken do do - less than cowards. No wait... What is less thaqn chicken do do. That is what you are.
@rigatube for spearing a fish to eat?? something our ancestors have done since the beginning of humanity? ur calling us chicken do do? dude ur a straight up fuckin retard. go hug a tree
Why didn't they bleed it? Or maybe they did off camera. If not, it's a huge waste. But these guys seem like they know what they are doing. Amazing shot. Sure makes my 5 pound blackfish with my Mares snubnose look like a joke. I did get a five-pound lobster this summer, by hand without a tank, of course.
Why dont u go and spearfish a great white next time? And have some1 post the vid on youtube just to let us see how u do against something that actually fights back...
the fish is like 8kg's lighter then the fat cunts hating on the video, how about you dirty no lifed mother fuckers find something to do other then eat and sit behind your computer.

What do you do with it? Sell it? If so how much can you get for a beast like that?

Which part of NZ is this? I have trip down there in a couple of months, are there charters that take you out spearfishing? Would be great to try out some spearfishing while there!
majdq8 1 year ago
This is the only spearfishing vid I have watched on here where the fish dont struggle, yet these are the biggest I have seen speared. Ive seen 2 lb walleye struggle more. By the way electricity works very well for subdueing fish in water, its how every game commision surveys fish in freshwater and is in fact not dangerous at all, the drop a radio in the lake kills everything myth comes from little kid cartoons.

correct me if im wrong but i dont think that trawler was fishing for the bluefin? I have a dvd where they go out off new zealand and look for these trawlers that catch Hokey? whatever they're called, and the tuna feed off the scrap the trawler throws out

he's even got a "stealth looking boat" how cool is that? :))

Nothing like fishing & Trance music, I love it.

dam the fishing trawlers. it should be an international law that you can only catch fish by spearing or from a line when that happens the world will truly be a good place

Nice boat.. What type is it?

wild and crazy hunting there..

Just a thought.
richardturner01 1 year ago
@richardturner01 thats true bluefins are endangered but if these guys didnt kill it the trawler would have got him so in my mind i would rather have the little guy score a fish that he will really appreciate rather than having another tuna be caught just for money for some sushi corporation
mauisurf95 1 year ago
its funny reading comments such as "fish that doesnt fight" "spear a fish like a great white"..lol nice video btw, tuna is one of the best tasting fish..wow..yummy.

ridiculously awesome! when he got next to it in the water i was like. thats a big puppy. much props. im not a poser. i could only wish i could get enough courage to do that atleast once. and yes, i would not waste, i eat and share. that electric cord stuns em eh! nice! wondering why it didnt shoot away after the hit. i wish i could swim like that. even if i didnt catch anything that must of been exciting.

Why didn't they bleed it? Or maybe they did off camera. If not, it's a huge waste. But these guys seem like they know what they are doing. Amazing shot. Sure makes my 5 pound blackfish with my Mares snubnose look like a joke. I did get a five-pound lobster this summer, by hand without a tank, of course.
tiwack1 1 year ago
Why dont u go and spearfish a great white next time? And have some1 post the vid on youtube just to let us see how u do against something that actually fights back...
kostakikapstaola 1 year ago
@kostakikapstaola it didnt fight back because that was a one hit kill... he gota head shot on it. you fucking moron haha.

@362515004 you're struggling to feed your family because your grammar is awful and you replace words with letters. Go back to high school.
