Gosh, I know it's just a pilot, but they didn't even bother to shoot their own minatures footage of the Red Dwarf! Ta;l about lame. It's like when they used footage of Atreyu riding his horse from the first Neverending Story in the second film and thought we wouldn't notice.

In original RD, when lister finds out 3 millions years had passed, he says he still has a book borrowed from library. In this version, he is cheering that his cards will make him a fortune. Something wrong with that

Yes, Robert Llewellyne flew in from the UK to do the American pilot. However in one older episode of the original show Kryten is played by David Ross as a guest character.

There is SO much wrong with this. The least of which being the laugh track is UNBEARABLE. Sure the original had it too, but this track is very loud and it goes on and on. And it is triggered on very unfunny jokes too.

The show could have found it's own way. Way the pilot of the US Office and it's pretty bad compared to the UK one, but after a few years it became really enjoyable. They could have made this show work. Too bad.

This is not really different from the original version. It follows the same crew cast by different people. It follows the same timeline events excluding Kryten appearing in episode 1. The only difference is the original was way funnier.

Like someone said it is nearly impossible to remake something that has already been mastered. Red Dwarf UK should not have been remade. It was a cult program series. You can't remake cult shows its like remaking star wars.

I think everybody's just being a hater. I'm a guy who caught a couple random episodes of Red Dwarf and just watched the first episode today and then watched this right after, and it's not bad. The first episode of Red Dwarf (UK) had some awkward and unfunny moments at the beginning but then it got into its own momentum and became great. They took some of the best parts of the original Red Dwarf and tried to mix in some new ideas, and I think it's enjoyable.

o my good god! any one who says this isnt bad need to visit a doctor cos this is shockin! The timing and delivery are all off on the jokes. y do america need to do there copy of red dwarf......why not just air the original?....money perhaps? The american office was just as bad if not worse. dont get me wrong there is a certain type of comedy that the yanks do well (scary move stylee) but this type of humor they couldnt do if there life depended on it, it cringe all the way through.

I do prefer the UK version - but this is nowhere NEAR as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, it's really quite good. A shame for the actors and crew that the series wasn't picked up - I think the commissioners made the wrong decision, as I think the series with these performers whould have gone on to do well.

I know in the UK, sitcom writers fight HARD to get rid of the laughter track (and it allways works without the laughter track) but Ive also heard The American writers seem to love the laughter track. They dont fight to have it removed. Not sure if thats true? From the U.s sitcoms ive seen though it seems essential.

@chubbylilloser85 it depends, cause some stuff is funny if you understand that american humor revolves around being blunt and oblivious in sitcoms. But I think it would be funnier without one in general just cause it doesn't make the comedy feel ham-fisted.

Of Course Psychologically it helps. Like the Sex-Life joke in the pilot, people may find it uncomfortable to laugh at with friends or family but if the track is played, they be motivated to chuckle without fear.

@TomSFox Hmm thats arguble. the whole 'filmed infront of a live audience' is pretty much bullshit :( (not trying to be crude) you will find in every tv show that uses live audience.. they will fill in the lack of laughs with a laughter track. Any one who says they dont are lieing to them selfs. Not every joke in a show (spesh one as lacking in the humor side as this) will have a laugh in every place there is supposed to be one. :( Even the best UK shows use them.
