What year is this? How come he didn't play anywhere near this level on the Return to Forever reunion tour ? All he did was keep the beat & did none of his old fills for the tunes.
Lenny, the 1st x I ever say you live was at the "both and" in SF, Dec 4th, 1971 playn' w/the Hub. My girl & I were sitting right in front of the stage. Michael Shrieve came in sit at the table next to us & put his tape recorder in front of me on stage and turned it on. Halfway thru the 1st set Freddie opens his eyes, waves his fingers no/no to me..I shook my head saying it wasn't mine. That tidbit opened door to a 40yr friendship with the HUB. I cowrote & inspired "Liquid Love" UR THE Best!
I've been a Lenny White fan since I saw him on something like "Don Kirshners" doing Vulcan Worlds with RTF. Had to have been around 1975. He's ambidextrous and nobody playing a single bass drum can do what he does.
Can anyone explain to me why he is not at the top of the list? He does everything well, very precise, and really the funkiest fusion drummer out there. Also plays straght ahead jazz great. Listen to Ron Carters' Stardust. - Scott
