  • Gut strings? There's a place for you.

  • nice jazz flow here too

  • Thanks, Wolfgang. This actually started out as just a test of recording the Upright Bass with my video camera to see how well the mic in the camera would pick up the Bass. I then decided to make a tune out of it.

  • very very nice! what don't you play? lol & :o)

  • Hi Freddy. Sorry for the late Response! Oh, actually, there's lots and lots of instruments that I don't know how to play. For instance, I have a Jaw Harp that I can't get to work for the life of me!

  • Slap that thang!

  • Hi Javier... I'm trying! I used to really get into the upright, but I have to take it easy now, because it gives me Carpal Tunnel if I play it too much.

  • Great slapping bass Scott.

    You are one talented fellow.

  • Thanks, Gene. Sorry for the real late Response to your Comment. I fall behind really easy because I have around 300 videos to contend with while still trying to work on new videos, etc..

  • Hello beatthis15. This instrument is pretty cool, but it takes some effort to play. Thanks for visiting.

  • My main man Scott! Oh yeah, this sounds much better in HQ, is there anything that U can't play?

I'm sure you have a Lute in there somewhere!

    another big 5'ver for ya!

  • Hello Bro D.. The closest thing I have to a Lute is my Balalaika. Maybe someday I'll have one. Then I can get out my old Renaissance sheet music and have some fun. I haven't practiced that stuff in years.

  • GOOD BASS PLAYING!!!

  • Thanks, grandma! 8-)

  • Damn, that's a big violin! ... and funkier than a pair of velvet flares at a Shaft convention ! *****

  • Ha-ha, Derek! Try getting this ''Violin'' under your chin sometime! It's actually of the ''Viol Family''... the precursor to the ''Violin Family.'' Now where's my Rebec? Need one of those to play some real old stuff.

  • Sent over by CDMAGZ..I'm not into to much classical type music, but good video....best wishes "THE PAISAN FROM PSL"

  • Thanks, Mr. Paisan from PSI and my thanks to CDmagz, too.

  • Great song!

  • Thanks, Mars! Nice to have your visit. 8-)

  • Scott - now that is what Bass is all about.

Nice deep tone and some of the string'y sound.

Great playing and excellent composition. It moves along nicely.

    -B. Bob

  • Hi B. Bob. That ''stringy sound'' that the Upright's got is one of the reasons I wanted to get one... not to mention it looks cool. 8-)

  • MAn, upright bass is the sickest! You are a man of many talents, Mr. Bodine.

  • Hello ubergrossen. I try... I try...

  • I'm not grumpy wating your videos!

  • Hi GrumpyChuck! You can watch my Videos grumpy if you wish. LOL... sometimes I'm grumpy, too, by the time I finish making them. 8-)

  • Way cool Scott! Great arrangement too!

    Paul

  • Thanks, Maestro Paul. With all these positive Comments, I'd better give up the Guitar, and start practicing my Upright Bass more! 8-)

  • That's great Scott, this was very nice, think you get a lot up your sleeve, next time drums, piano, then directing the horn-section.By the way this was a very nice horn arrangement, very good professional work Amigo, greets Vic.

  • Hello Vic! I'd probably be playing this beast nore often, but it's so cramped for space here!

    Glad you liked it. 8-)

  • very nice...i agree ...i'm a guitar player ...well try to be....and this was a very cultural change....and what would the musician do without his bass...5****s

  • Thanks, stevewestwood2007, for the visit! It is a good thing to have the bass to fill in the low-end, that's for sure.

  • Great to see...though there's nothing quite like standing against one when it's going.Lol.

  • Hello fendermac. It is a fun instrument to be looking at, standing by and/or playing. 8-)

  • Very cool Bodine! - Boy I'd love to jam with you on that thing! I keep watching the prices of them, but I mustn't... there are 9 geetars here now, and seven fiddles, I think.

That instrument's gotta be the daddy for jazz.... is it full size, or 3/4?

    Baz

  • Yeh, full size, or you're shrinkin in yer old age.

  • Hello Sir Barry. It is a 3/4 size. If I'm not mistaken, most Upright Basses I see seem to be of that size rather than the Full Size.

  • Nice one, Sir Diesel. That's what I've found. .. guess the camera's put you into perspective... blimey! - was worryin' you was shrinkin, man!

  • Barry! Man, if I had a Full-Size Bass, I'd have to get rid of some of my Guitars to make the extra room I'd need to store the bloody thing! LOL

  • Dies ist grosse Kunst. Fantastisch. 5*****

    Onkel Pete

  • Danke, Onkel Peter! Ich Willkommen ihrer Bemerkung.

  • Awesome talent, and thanks for sharing!!:)

  • Thanks, willy350z! 8-)

  • multi-talented and what a great treat to me; woke up early to load the dishwasher and listen to your fabulous music. Thank you

Love from the CDmagz team and the Booth family

  • Thanks, wonderful Booth Family and CDmagz. 8-)

  • very kool!

  • Thanks, Coz-Man! Keep rockin'! 8-)

  • Wonderful, Scott! Just like I said, you're a jack of all traits and I think you have mastered quite a few too, lol! :)))

  • Thanks, Karen. You've got a bunch of fine talents yourself, friend! 8-)

  • Wow, Scott, that was amazing, totally enjoyed this video! I had no idea you could play stand up bass, and that you could play it so well! Once again, you amaze us with your talent! Great job!

  • Thanks Steve. It's fun to surprise y'all with something you weren't expecting. Glad you were entertained!

  • This is very cool brother Bodine. ***** I want to see more Upright Bass videos... Oh, and a few new MetalBodine videos would be pretty cool too ;-) - Sqwish

  • Thanks Sqwish. We'll see what we can come up with. Hmmm. I'm speaking in plurals. I reckon anything's possible... just got to wait for the spirit to move when the spirit's in the mood to move. I have no plans for my next video, but when the spirit moves, I try to move with it as quick as possible. 8-)

  • Well done! If there is one instrument that I really, really wanted to play, that's such a bass.

  • Hallo Frank! Bass is cool. My 1st Guitar was a Bass Guitar. I'd wanted an Upright Bass for quite a while. I bought this one 9 years ago and was playing it more than my Guitar for a few years, but now I don't play it too often because it gave me Carpal Tunnel, but that was because of the playing style I was doing: ''Slap Style'' Playing Pizzicato is fine to do, with the occasional ''Slaps'' like I used in the video. I went wild ''Slapping'' when I first started playing. Not a good idea.

  • wow, bass player too.

Hope you have a great weekend !

    Michael

  • Hello, Michael. I do some thumpin' and slappin' from time to time. A fine weekend, I hope, to be in store for you, too. Ah, yes... the weekend is upon us!

  • Sounded excellent as typical Bodine style.

I know with each instrument you have to apply certain techniques and you seem to have mastered them all. It seems you are truly a one man band. *****

  • Hi Rhonda. I haven't been playing the Upright at all lately, so it was fun to do a little ditty with it. There definitely are different techniques that get used on the various instruments.

    It's all fun! 8-)

  • danke schoen!

    love it

  • Thank-you, Barklord. 8-)

  • Sounds great Scott! Love the upright bass sound! I played with a guy who had one. He had to buy a new car just to cart it around! lol. Cheers mate!

  • G'day Ed. Yeah, the Doghouse does take up its share of space. I hardly have any room to play it here, but it manages to fit in my car. Luckily, I don't play out with it any more, because my pickups are shot. I like the sound natural, without amplification, rather than with the pickups anyway. Cheers!

  • very cool Scott - whats next the Trumpet

  • Thanks, Woody. Oh, I have my nephew's Trombone, but can't get much worthwhile sound to come out of it. My 1st instrument was the Trombone in Grade School, but I didn't take lessons for too long. I don't have the lungs for Brass or Wind instruments. I prefer to make arrangements rather than personally trying to play too many different instruments. It just takes too much time to get good at an instrument if you divide your practice time between too many of them at once.

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks, Lola! It's fun to let the fingers go walkin' on that big ol' beast of an instrument.

  • I love a little bass. Eine Kleine Bass.

  • Hello mwest. I want to buy a Cello next... and a Sitar, some Tablas, a Lute, and a good Violin. My cheap Violin is now unplayable. I got my money's worth out of it, but it's falling apart!

  • Are you dipping into the methamphetamine pot again, Bodine?

  • Hello mwest. Not me, but I am enjoying my ultra-Espresso-strength Starbucks® Coffee by the mugful. How's the sprouting coming along. Just started up another batch. I'm going to order a pound of Radish Seeds!

  • Thanks for reminding me. I still need to order a sprouter. Will do so now. Then get some seeds.

  • Okay, on it's way now. :)

  • Nice arrangement and nice playing! I always wanted to get an Upright Bass. Once a guy ask me to hold his Bass while he got his bag ready, so I played it a little and man it felt good! His was set up for slapping also. Thanks!

  • Thanks Stevepat. My Bass is an affordable plywood-top model... great for pounding on without worrying too much. I played a beautiful ''real'' Bass Viol from 1790, I think, at Kolstein's out on Long Island once. The sound of that Bass was enough to make your jaw drop. Thick, rich and perfect! The price of that instrument was too much for me though. It was a couple tens of thousands... don't recall exactly. I'm surprised they let me even touch it, let alone play it!

  • pricy indeed guitar is cheeper in that object :P

  • omg i love that instrument i once got a try at a teachers house at it but its not as easy as it looks i wish u could play it ^^ respect for you Diesel Bodine :D

  • Hello Metalsaint0. My Bass is actually more hard to play because I have it set up for ''Slap Style,'' which has my strings about a half an inch above the fingerboard. I'd like to get the beast a new Ebony fingerboard and set it up for normal playing, including Arco, with the bow. The price of strings is really high, if you get the best kind. I got a deal on the set I'm using here. I think I paid $180... half price. They've been on it for years. You can buy much cheaper metal strings also.

  • good work bodine, yer starting to play everything! looking good too, kind of like alan ginzberg. jeremiah johnson.

  • Thanks, windham. I wish I had some Video of when I used to Slap this beast like crazy. 8-)

  • i see you mentioned you slappped it in a band. maybe you played a wedding or something where there is video to be drudged up??????

do you know of les claypool?

  • Hi windham. Yeah, there was some video recorded by our Singer's brother, but he never made anyone copies! It was before I could play DVDs, so I gave him blank VHS tapes to record the band on to. He never did though. Now he lives in California.

  • Excellent stuff.Well done.

  • Thanks, philipsmovies. I love the Upright Bass. Never got much into bowing it though. I set my Bass up with high string action for ''Slap Style'' and have the wrong kind of strings on it for bowing.

  • wow!!very tasty!! great job !!

  • Thanks, dionsansoucle. It was fun. Glad you liked it. Maybe more UB in the future. I hardly have any room to play this big beast where I make my videos. LOL

  • Man, there's just something extra-cool about jazz upright bass!

    Nicely done!

    *****

    ~R

  • Thanks, Robert! I've been slacking off on my Upright playing. It gave me Carpal Tunnel twice. I used to play ''Slap Style'' on Rockabilly and Honky-Tonk tunes in a band I was in a few years ago, and I was going crazy at it, but payed the price. As long as I don't go crazy ''Slapping'', I can still play the thing without the CT problems.

  • I just sighn`d in and . . . NO autoplay ???

    Sounds Great !!

  • Hello ''utube779.'' No ''AutoPlay,'' but we can still hope to see it again in the future, I guess. I'm not holding my breath over it though. At least we have a work-a-round to hear Videos in ''Stereo'' by adding the ''&fmt=18'' at the end of a Stereo Video's URL. Glad ya' like it!
