  • Hey man i gotta question. I like hardcore love the way your trans am sounds lol i am already seriously looking into buying a LS1 trans am so yes i am doing some pre-car shopping for it lol. I wanted to ask is that the loudmouth series one or two. Based on other youtube videos i dont really like series one, but yours sounds just right.... Maybe series two? I wanted to check and be sure of it

  • Americanmusclefan, you are truely a dumbass. A built auto will always be better than a built manual in a drag race, there's no if/ands/or buts about it. Stop manual vs a stock auto, there's no doubt a manual is better. For a street car racing on the street, it may be better to have a manual. But strictly speaking a built auto with a shift kit and high stall torque converter will molest a manual, and that's even if the guy is a PERFECT shifter, which is very rare. Dumbass

    I drive a stick , but would actually prefer an auto ls1... that shit is faster from a dig than any six speed, from a roll whole diff. story- depends on how good you shift.

  • You're 100% correct. Somebody who TRULY knows about cars and racing will know that sticks are for fun when it comes to V8's. A 4 banger needs as many gears as it can get to keep it in the powerband at higher RPM range (since that's where the HP is). An LS1 doesn't need that since it's got an insane amount of torque. A auto will rape a stick out of the hole, but from a roll it will need to be built a bit because of the lag it takes to downshift and torque is less affective at high speeds.

    my brother just got his z28, he just barely bought (a4). I cant wait to drive it tomorrow. He says it feels faster than his current 98 mustang gt with a 5spd and full pi swap, plus other mods(260rwhp 290rwtq)

  • oh yeah an LS1 has WAAAAY more power than a 98 GT, even if the GT had full bolts ons and DR's, the LS1 would still eat it. What many people dont know is that a stock LS1 has virtually the same exact amount of power as the LS1 vette (350hp), GM just underrated them because otherwise it would have hurt the Vette's sales if there was a cheaper car with the same power. But many people i know dyno their BONE stock LS1's at around 315-320rwhp. I have yet to dyno mine, but mine is also modded a bit.

  • i drove it today and i have noticed that when i floor the car at around 60 or actually any speed the car revvs up for like 2 secs and then rockets, do you know if it is normal? And sometimes the car shifts rather hard...

    This makes me think that maybe it has a tranny problem... But i am not sure, my brother says that it is fine...

    BTW the car is pretty quick, and i will probably buy an ls1 t/a in about 2 months...

  • yeah that is normal, the car takes a little bit of time to downshift, but while the engine is disengaged from the tranny, the RPM's shoot up and then when it shifts into gear it takes off. It's normal, so no need to worry. Good luck buying an LS1, you'll love it!

  • i inspected it yesterday and the transmission fluid needs to be changed, something tells me the car has been driven around pretty hard...

    Trans will need to be changed in a couple thousand miles :(

  • that sucks man. i just had my tranny flushed too...but my tranny is still doing good. That's the only bad thing about the 4L60E's, is that they aren't incredibly strong, and if driven hard they tend to get problems after a while. The T56 is rocksolid...oh well guess that's just the way it goes.

  • Oh no sorry my calculation was wrong. It's about 298 at the wheels, putting it at about 350 crank horsepower. DEFINITELY get a firebird over a stang. They have almost 100 more horsepower and are lighter / lower to the ground. TRUST ME.

    It doesn't really matter how much mileage it has, what really matters is how well the car was maintained over the years. That makes all the difference. But yes, generally older cars tend to make a BIT less power, but not much...

  • I'm going to look at a 2001 WS6 soon :) but I think getting an svt cobra with a bassani x pipe and borla stingers would be just as cool

    also ive seen t/as dyno at 270whp stock, it all just depends on the car i guess.

    SLP is where its at for T/A exhaust systems. idk why ne one would get anything else, SLP just sounds the best.

  • depends what year of the trans am/model/transmission, 02 trans am ws6 with the t-56 being the highest output because the 02's had some parts from the ls6 engines, while the 98s didnt

    but, did you know that bolt ons work better on 98 99s because they had the bigger camshaft already installed?

    newer ones had the LS6 manifold, but ran a smaller stock camshaft.

    either way, im puttin a different cam in my 02 :D

  • They underrated them for a purpose. Most have around 350 to the ground.

  • dckmn52 is 100% correct. Also, auto's tend to dyno about 20rwhp less than a T56 car. 98's also dyno'd less when stock because they have the same computer as the 97 cars. It changed in 99. And yeah, after all the drivetrain loss calculations, it's true that they dyno 350hp stock. The reason they underrated them is because they didn't want them to cut into the Corvette's sales (since its the flagship car)
