When I first heard the topic I imagined thick rope nets and seashells. One of the first design ideas that sprang to mind was a type of chain mail or plate mail made from different types of shells being strung together or overlapping one another. In terms of fighting style I imagined a mixture of Retiarius gladiators (fought with tridents, daggers and nets) mixed with Native American and perhaps even tribal Africa cultural themes. I think a combination of 1 and 4 would work very well.
I have a hard time drawing with my whole arm rather than my wrist. When your drawing small thumbnails are you STILL drawing with your arm, or do you draw less and less from the arm as the drawing get smaller?
I've been trying to get better about drawing with my whole arm and I find my elbow doing most of the moving. Is this how you draw or do you draw from the shoulder?
@zippythewildone At a certain level of detail, I'm using more finger control (similar to how you would write small notes). The wrist is something I don't use. The elbow is such a basic hinge joint, that while it can work well as an extension of the shoulder, I'm not sure how you would comfortably use just that. It should come naturally if you're making sure to not put any weight on your arm. As long as you can hit a quick straight line the length of a page, you're fine.
I kind of like the number 5 design, feels a little less cheesy than the others. That's most likely because I'm swayed toward heavy mechanical stuff, and I'm digging that shell backpack. almost looks like a pyro from TF2. Or maybe like some sort of electric eel style thing, that shoots lightbolts. Really love your videos, can't believe I didn't know about this until now! They're really great.
I like number #6 and the assassin feel of number #4.
Number #6 had some really cool claw thing on his hand, wouldent it be cool if it was more like a dagger rather than a harpoon? He could have one on each hand maybe?
designs 2,3,6 and 7 i liked the lightweight Armour witch i thought was suitable for their environment if they needed to escape from large ocean predators i could also see these guys hunting in a group like native alaskans
@omanitnathan For most casual things, I just use any random number size so that it's at least bigger than my screen resolution (example might be 2000x2000 pixels at 300dpi). Then I set the zoom to a basic 100% and just draw the screen. I crop the canvas later on, to finalize the composition or layout. The important thing is that the DPI is at least 300. If you're planning to print stuff, set the canvas to the inches of the desired print and the DPI to 300 (or more if needed).
I'm voting for #6, I just like the tentacle whip weapon. Giant Squids have teeth/hooks on their tentacles, so it would probably not be pleasant to get hit with one.
I think the shoulder plate from no1 could be really cool. I have a weak spot for asymetrical shoulder designs. You could use like a whole crab and actually make one of the pincers as a mutated arm for the warrior as male crabs usually have one pincer much larger anyway. The rest could be semi light armour so it's an agile one armed offence brute type.
I like number 6 with the spear gun type weapon which seems to be the only practical weapon for under and around water. I also like his pose, but maybe you should combine his costume with number 1 and the crab armor shoulder pad. If the character is swimming he should have a very streamlined costume so that it creates less drag.
the concepts i liked most were from #6 with the harpoon and the stance as well as the armor of #4. and the assassin feel of #2 was kickin with the seaweed/some kind of tattered cloth that he may have found from a sunken pirate ship as a cloak/cape. and there should be coral growing from it, and the weapon. and like just barnacles ERRYPLACE!!! :O
i think you should do numbah 5 ,for me it has the most interesting idea, but it feels very loose ,you should give him something like a scuba helmet with a big flashlight at one side, and connect it to that thing behind his back,u kno :) like a corupted scuba diver ,some sea parasites took over his body :)and his costume is all in sea grass.
6 is interesting and it has room for you to expand on it and play with it and it definitely isn't super literal

Please don't do the gayish trident thing!!! Try mixing the 7 and the 2, I bet there's something eerie in there that could work just fine.

i like #5 and #1(somehow it reminds me of "Waterworld" with Kevin Costner, don't know why) most

@sinixdesign That's a relief I thought I was drawing completely wrong and was going to have to re-learn drawing using my whole arm.
