  • i remember when thom yorke played this in '08 at their hollywood bowl concert, best night of my life.

  • So many great tunes .

  • Mike Mills is so awesome

  • J'adore, la musique rentre dans la tête et on est captif, je n'arrête pas de regarder le DVD perfect square, une drogue douce, douce, douce, un bonheur merci messieurs !!!!

  • NEW ADVENTURES IN HI FI , BEst Album Of REM =)

  • @emartine2008 No argument from me there, that album is absolutely epic.

  • UGH! I wish the 20th century had actually gone to sleep. DIE MFer DIEEEE

  • Every time I see this vid I have to giggle about Mills at the end.

    Awesome.

  • I'm not scared I'm outta here

  • I never could get into R.E.M. until this record, "New Adventures In Hi-Fi" is wonderfully disenchanted and lovely. My rainy day album for the past 15 years.

  • Electrolite

    Etilortcele.

  • Would any song can be more beautiful?

  • Wow beautiful song

  • I am truly blessed to have been born in the same year as New Adventures In Hi-Fi was released...but then again, they are God's, and my, favourite band.

I've only been around to see half of R.E.M's brilliant story - it's a real shame I didn't get to see the other half...:(

  • love this song and this clip so strange and funny in the same time , rem forever

  • it is my funeral since R.E.M. broke up..

  • It's a shame they have split they were fucking brilliant and the best group in the world. The only time I could afford to see them live when they toured the UK in 2005 I had to go and need a transplant so had to sell my tickets. Not been able to afford since. Of course now I will never get to see them live, it's a crying shame.

  • I feel like I was left alone by someone who always has been here for me. I'd beg you "not now, please", but I guess it's too late for that. Thanks for 10th July 2003 in Warsaw. One of the best days of my life.

  • Love the song and the video. Those last words mean a lot more now. You´re outta here but your music is still around and keep living. Thank you REM.

  • REM is not any more. U2 is. That's unfair.

  • Thanks for the music REM, what a great band.

  • μεγαλος ερωτας αυτο το συγκροτημα..θα μου λειψει..:')

  • There's seriously something wrong with the world now that R.E.M. have broken up.

  • REM, thanks for the music

  • poinoup, I felt the same. Goodbye, greatest band ever.

  • Since it came out, I always said the day R.E.M. was no more that this would be the song I play...

  • This is one of my favorites too

  • SAD DAY FOR MUSIC....THIS GENERATION REALLY HAVE MISSED OUT

  • "I'm outta here."

  • 6 people are chained

  • dreamy...

  • What is so awesome about REM, is that every time you havent heard one of their songs for a while, when you do hear it, you realise all over again, just how wonderful it is.

  • @mommagee1 agreed.

  • your light eclipsed the moon tonight

  • reminds me of when i was sixteen.love it.

  • amo essa banda

  • Love!!!!

  • LOVE IT

  • I love how each REM song I listen to (even after all these years) becomes my favorite, till the next one. I have my top 10 favorite, but the others are a very close. I'm amazed how each touch me in a different way and are so poignant.

  • Check out my cover of "Mad World"

  • a song like this needs more backing vocals from mike he makes at my most beautiful one of their best songs

  • How can there be anyone (six people) who does not like this?

  • @EvaMadrid1 There is a lot of folk who are tasteless out there, put 6 in the world are to many.REM are a great band, they have seemed to be around for ever. But they never boar me.I always look forward to there new stuff. And it never fails to let me down.Glad that I got to see them play Glasgow green. They were fantastic that night. They blew all there Scottish fans away that night. It was up there with the best gig that I ever saw.And they still had loads of songs they never had time to play to list.

  • is it bad that this is the first time i realized the afro on mike mills at 3:49

  • Love.... and makes me soooo homesick for L.A. <3

  • So incredibly melancholic...great great song...def. one of their best.

  • One of the best video ever... (:

  • Bill Berry blessed us all enough to earn a "Get Out of Jail Free" card from the Fates.

  • @KOPA623 And mine, their last truly great work if you ask me.

  • i listened to this song every night to help me go to sleep for two years straight.. haven't listened to it for ages till now. still absolutely love it, i hope they play this at my funeral

  • 20th century go to sleep..

  • martin sheen,steve mcqueen, , jimmy dean

  • bill berry! we miss you.

  • Probably one of my most favorite songs ever! :)

  • Michael Stipe dedicated this song to River Phoenix... R.I.P. 8.23.1970 - 10.31.1993 we'll always remember you <3

  • Great Song.....Is this video trying to suggest that we all all prisoners? That is what i think!

  • my neck hurts :P

  • thumbs up (or down) if you turned your screen upside down

  • 4 people were scared. :)

  • Their best song hands down.

  • effortless perfection

  • Great song and video!

  • Love the song. Hate the clip.

  • @iamjanan Agreed!

  • another gem of a song from one of the best bands of all time. together with the rest of their collection you're talking about the equivalent of the crown jewels.

  • Fucking-a: Spike Jonze!

  • is there a instrument Mike Mills cant play? Probably the most talented musician around!

  • The music vids beautifully random

    but hilarious from 2:56 onwards

  • Where the fuck is the Spike Jonze video for this magnificent song?

  • @WeezerMIJ This isn't it?

  • @kevinsmellls No, It's not. It was B/W, charming, different...

  • awesome at 3:19

  • Great song, Best REM song for me.

  • My favorite band! <3 My mom showed me then when I was like 6 and I still love them :))))))

  • I'm a huge R.E.M. fan and I consider this their last truly great song.

  • one of the best videos ever made

  • @bionicbigfoot

Don't tell me there is nothing different from other people about you...

Besides, I like how he looks. He has a very distinctive look but it comes natural I think...

  • lol the knight in the buggy

  • 2:35am Friday (CDT) - Time in Chicago, Illinois

  • Very, very strange video, but I enjoy the song

  • Love it......

  • I want this played at my funeral, as my good bye, I love you, and it has been fun song.

  • I love the knight. Where the hell did he come from?? Awesome video and awesome song.

  • At 2:38, Bill Berry is waving goodbye to the camera and then is driving backwards. Is it a sign of his departure from the band the following year?

Nevertheless it's a song I warmed to over the years.

  • That song is REALLY SOMETHING! Thank you, guys from R:E:M,thank you a lot. You make my life better.

  • Definitely one of my favorite R.E.M. videos. I think the band had a bit of fun making it too...

  • What do the chains symbolize?

  • @futuremarine321 I think that chain symbolize everybody from us is prison of our existence.

  • Now THAT'S how you end an album!

    I'm outta here...

  • I'm Martin Sheen, I'm Steve McQueen, I'm Jimmy Dean.

I always loved Bill Berry's eyebrows.

  • pErfEcT !!!

  • 0:01 SKIP THE ADS!

  • Is this song about suicide??

I can't understand what its about

    But i lovvveeee R.E.M. :)

  • 4 bullets please

  • artistic brilliance imho.........still love the piano riffs

  • <3 this song <3

  • Many memories listening to this again. My mind is set in a time in the past.

  • Love the song but it makes me just a little sick: too many times watching a concert video of them doing this song with way too much vodka.

  • I'm so happy when I see Bill Berry.

  • This brings out such a great feeling....:)

What is it about these guys?

  • @sweetttina666 , yep, they are only just the greatest band ever!! Great feeling indeed..there's no other like REM

  • An absolutely perfect song from an overlooked album. The piano and violin are sublime.

  • @splitenzfreak1980

I agree. Too overlooked. Actually, it is my second favorite REM CD after LIfes Rich Pageant.

  • @splitenzfreak1980 correct. i cant believe how little this album is known....and its 1 of there best.

  • @splitenzfreak1980

I totally agree. This is my favorite REM song, one of their very best.

  • @splitenzfreak1980 It bothers me when people hate this record.

  • @splitenzfreak1980 I agree. I think it was really the last great R.E.M. song. My brother and I used to do this one when we had a band (too bad I no longer have any of the old videos).

  • @splitenzfreak1980

Probably my favorite album by R.E.M, my brother is a big fan at least he was when I was younger. Weird how when a sibling listens to a album to death you don't see it for how good it is but instead that damn album they don't turn off..... He's moved away now and I miss him.this music always reminds me of being young and him being downstairs listening, listening & listening... I was born '85 so most band in their mid 90's era appeals to me most, childhood attachment I guess.

  • Last REM's truly great song.

  • @avin1973 why LAST?

  • @avin1973

Last truly great video at least. And last truly great album, it might be said.

In the including-Bill Berry-era they were one charm.

  • this song is about james dean!

  • @poptartmarbear Well actually, according to Michael Stipe...

"I really wanted to write a farewell song to the 20th century."

"I name check three of the great legends of that single industry 'town,' as it likes to refer to itself. In order: James Dean, Steve McQueen, Martin Sheen. All iconic, all representing different aspects of masculinity—a key feature of 20th century ideology".

    That's from Wikipedia.

  • yeah (-: strange one i like the music

  • wierd video :)

  • Electrolite encapsulates every single thing that have made R.E.M. such an incredible band over the last twenty-odd years.

Such beauty and sadness and whimsy and depth. I love this song, always and forever.

  • One of my Fave REM vids.... just wonderful... Thank you ;-)

  • great song, great band

  • fucking brilliant

  • I actually love this. I only saw it for the first time yesterday. I don't know how I missed it. I'm wearing Michael Stipe Eyes right now x

    Fucking gorgeous.

  • Life enhancing. That's REM.

  • @78Keeley YES. Absolutely! Well said.

  • A more personal example for me is when my mom talks about my grandfather who came to America in 1920 at age 12. He had a very American life. His father died when he was 15, went to work in the steel mills, then produce business. He bought his own company and ran it for decades. He died in 1993 when I was 12. My mom is sad when she tells his life stories because she misses him, but she is also happy and proud all he achieved.

  • Weed flashback from :40 to :48

  • They call this the close to the 20th century, bow to Hollywood icons, etc..........it's a suicide song if I ever heard one and I love it!

I'm not suicidal, don't get me wrong. This song is deep. Very deep in many ways....lyrically and melodically.

    It's a masterpiece.

  • @killerjoebenson I think you are missing the point. It is not a sad song. It is about the end of an era. The 20th century had its good and bad moments, but it was a good century overall. Look how happy the guys in the band are throughout this video. It is like talking about a happy memory from your childhood. You remember it happily, but you are sad because it is gone forever to the past.

  • One of my favorite songs from my favorite band. Too bad it's on my least favorite R.E.M. CD.

  • Love the song and the video.

  • I love them dearly, but what a bunch of fashion victims!

  • @rem2267 I think it's by design. It has to be!

  • One of their best videos of all time. A killer song. Makes me MISS BILL so much, though. A fun video to watch, and looks like it must have been great fun to make, as well.

My favorite part - watch the black plastic bag floating near the ground, from the left to right hand side of the screen, starting at 3:29. Cracks me up. I bet it was not intentionally done, but they probably saw it in the editing process and left it in, that's how they are. R.E.M!!!!!!!

  • BEST. REM. SONG. EVER... PERIOD.

  • the best R.E.M. song by light years!!!!!!

  • This is my favorite R.E.M. song, by far. I find it incredibly romantic.

  • it's hard to pick between this and nightswimming...both are GREAT in their own ways.

  • I'd have to say that this is my favorite R.E.M. song of all time.

  • I think it's so exciting.

  • "your eyes are burning holes through me", wow great lyrics!!

  • No, it's better than nightswimming...
