On Dec. 9, 1999, a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter, with 18 people on board, crashed while attempting to land on the Navy tanker during a training exercise. The chopper's landing gear apparently snagged a metal safety net and the helicopter flipped over into the water and quickly sank.
Eleven Marines were rescued by special warfare crewmen on two nearby boats. But six Marines and a sailor drowned, their bodies recovered later from the sunken wreckage by an unmanned submersible vehicle.
Not a little mistake. Like Sapien said the drill is to match speeds with the ship first. Then move onto the deck. On aircraft carriers they have Landing officers who can repremand pilots for lousey landings. This guy's performance should have been picked up before this accident.
Had the pilot dumped lift immediately they might have stayed on the deck but he tried to lift off again. that sealed it.

7 died in this accident. A helicopter instructor for the military told me the problem is the rotation of the aircraft - no control to stop this crashing once it's rotating. Sad day for all tose involved.
I served onboard the USS Milwaukee; it was an oiler similar to this one. I always thought this could happen. I feel for those who died in this crash. You can plainly see it got its wheel caught on the safety netting. God Bless those who serve in war, & peacetime!

china is no where near the best trained army in the world. first off, thats really a very hard thing to determine. second, they are conscripts which means in peace time, sure they're great for show, but they run from battle. Saddams troops were conscripts and look at what they did. i would actually say the USMC is the best trained in the world. They have some of the toughest training in the world (not saying tough makes it the best) and yet people continue to volunteer for it.

So in essence what you are saying is Britain held its own against Hitler and his mob? Yeah, that was kinda the intention back in 1941. We werent going to take on the Reich on our own, we did need the US for that, but we held our island with little help from the US. (Bar the Eagles Squadron, they did help and we are greatful for that).

We didnt weaken the Germans. They weakened themselves through a rather stupid strategic blunder - namely Operation Barbarossa. Had they not gone for Russia and instead decided to wipe us out, they could have had Nazi jackboots in London within a few weeks of an invasion. Oh, and just fyi - the UK would still be speaking English even if the yanks hadnt got involved - but most of Europe would certainly be speaking German.

7 died in this accident. A helicopter instructor for the military told me the problem is the rotation of the aircraft - no control to stop this crashing once it's rotating. Sad day for all tose involved.

I served onboard the USS Milwaukee; it was an oiler similar to this one. I always thought this could happen. I feel for those who died in this crash. You can plainly see it got its wheel caught on the safety netting. God Bless those who serve in war, & peacetime!

america went to bagdad un couldnt control it so they asked britian (2nd best trained army after china) to help so we said yeah okay. we got in uncontrol and left, but as soon as we left america loss control again! so they called for britains help again!

china is no where near the best trained army in the world. first off, thats really a very hard thing to determine. second, they are conscripts which means in peace time, sure they're great for show, but they run from battle. Saddams troops were conscripts and look at what they did. i would actually say the USMC is the best trained in the world. They have some of the toughest training in the world (not saying tough makes it the best) and yet people continue to volunteer for it.

How about both of you shut up on different facets. The CH46 is a bitch to fly chavsarelosrs, and it takes incredible skill to fly one anyway. sxfn81, the yanks didnt save us. Yes, they helped free Europe, but Hitler taking on the Russians meant he never was particularly arsed about the UK. You didnt save us - Hitlers decision (a damned foolish one that lost him he war) meant that the UK was spared. If anyone saved the UK from a large amount of destruction, it was Adolf himself.

no, he thought that the UK would give up before he invaded russia. when they didn't, he still went ahead because he thought the russians would be easy because he considered them worthless shit. his plan was to then go and deal with Britain. He also thought that we were going to stay out of the war or if we joined it would be against the Communists.
